Name of the School Observed: Tanauan North Central SchoolSchool Address: Tanauan City, BatangasDate of Visit: February 19- 21, 2013

Tanauan North Central School is at the City of Tanauan wherein we can notice that it is quite populous and crowded however, the said city is presently been stabilizing. The school is near the street where lots of establishments are can be found. Currently, other school facilities such as Home Economics room are used as classroom due to the reason that the school is presently undergoing maintenance in which they constructed new building and providing well-organized environment for the students. Some buildings are still good and productive; however, some are needed to have renovation. There are facilities that had been affected by the on-going building construction such as the butterfly garden.

Offices provided by the school are useful and beneficial because it accommodate the students and lead them to active and actual learning. The office of the principal is very accessible and available. Other learning facilities also gave the students the opportunities to be able to have their direct-purposeful experience.

As I walked in the school halls and try to observe other facilities, I found at that cleanliness and neatness are always applied in every facility. Everything was organized properly. As I perceived, materials are handy not just only for the teachers, but for the students as well. The school tried their best to equip the students with the environment and materials needed by them to obtain worth and quality education.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Conducive classroom is one of the vital factors in acquiring quality education; so therefore, it is an essential responsibility of the teacher to provide a favorable learning environment. I was so amazed with the classroom of grade I Modest under Mrs. Josefa S. Tenorio because everything is placed properly according to its function and characteristics. As I look at the room, walls have a light pink paint which makes the room become light. A print- rich environment is being delivered by putting different lessons and topics at the back portion of the room, and posting the alphabet, “Lupang Hinirang” and “Panatang Makabayan” at the front of the room. It is believed to be a good medium of learning specially that they are still on their emergent reading and writing stage.

The room is composed of two teacher’s tables. One is placed at the right- back portion of the room wherein different school files and documents

are properly arranged. The other table is positioned at the left-front side wherein teachers set the paper works of the students and her lesson plan and instructional needed for the day.

Students’ desk is the appropriate seats for grade one students. The ratio is that one desk is for two or three pupils. It is arranged in three columns by five rows in which some desks are still in its good condition. On the other hand, proper blackboard is also provided in which it is placed where grade one pupils can still reach it when writing at the board.

What’s really surprising in the room is that different learning materials are being arranged properly and orderly. Varied learning packages for different subjects, reading corner with various books and different instructional materials such as removable hand- clock are being placed for easy access of quality instruction. Furthermore, different visual aids, which are written legibly, are located at the envelope according to its classification of subject matter and grading period when not in use.

MY ANALYSIS

How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact on the learning of the students going to school? What are your conclusions?

I therefore conclude that school campus and classrooms greatly impact students’ learning by providing a learning environment which is conducive and productive in acquiring learning. Students are being taught to have their own sense of responsibility in keeping the environment clean and neat. Moreover, manage and conducive classroom will definitely motivate students to learn and study hard.

How does this relate to your knowledge of the child and adolescent development? How does this relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?

As I witnessed, individual differences really exist at different aspects of learning at the school. SSES or Special Science Elementary School is the cream section in each grade level so their cognitive, affective and psychomotor abilities are quite differ from those lower sections. However, how the teachers creatively facilitate learning will express on how the students learn. With the nature of being children, I can say that students learn, even the top section or the last section, by appreciating a print-rich environment and presenting an attractive visual aids for as long as they learn.

COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION

1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why not?

Yes, I would like to teach at Tanauan North Central School because aside from being one of the best and performing schools at Tanauan Division, the school is united and devoted in the mission of providing the students an environment which leads them in acquiring effective learning.

2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?

In my own opinion, a school can be considered effective to learning if it has complete equipments and facilities particularly in classrooms, offices and any kind of school laboratories. The school campus should also be maintain clean and neat and always be accessible and productive.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

The classroom is said to be conducive if it is properly fixed in such a way that it is well-ventilated, clean and with proper lighting. Classroom management should always be utilized spaces should also be provided to maximizes different learning activities. It should also have the complete facilities and equipment needed by the students. A crowded environment

should also be avoided to lessen the effect of probability of inactive listening of the students.

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

If I ‘am blessed by the Lord to achieve my aspiration to become educator, I will do the best to provide an effective classroom for my students. I will be the one who facilitate in structuring my classroom and letting my students to have their own sense of accountability on particular task. And to settle down everything, most probably, I will finance my own budget to supply the necessary equipment and environment looked-for by my future students.

5. Write your additional learning and insights here.

This course of study serves as an eye-opener for me to become aware in the present school and classroom conditions and for me to become a veritable classroom manager in times that I will be in the profession. Having an effective classroom requires finance yet it should not be too expensive. The teacher must also consider his creativity and resourcefulness to be able to provide a classroom wherein students could learn.

MY PORTFOLIO

My Personal Illustration of an Effective School Environment

COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION

Providing an effective school environment is not just the duty of the school administrators nor the teachers only, it is the responsibility of school heads, teachers and of course, by the students. As a future educator, I can foresee the things that are highly needed in enhancing one’s school environment. Yes, financing will matter but being creative and inexpensive should always take into consideration. The teachers must be guided to reconstruct his/her classroom and let the students to take their own task and duty. We are all aware that environment really affects students learning so teachers should maximize the effort to accomplish this in his/ her room. Sadly, some teachers are lack of trainings and seminars on how to produce that well-useful classroom.

In the same manner, school should be clean, well- organized and attractive. Classrooms, together with other centers, should be well- ventilated and with sufficient light so as to minimize the factors that will effect on children progress. As a future teacher, I know and I ‘am aware that an effective learning lies on how the school personals, administrators, teachers and students, will be united in maintaining an effective and conducive environment which leads to progress of learning. There will be no right time, but today. It should be started in oneself and serves as model to others.
