Fruits & Veggies: Fabulous Foods is an adult curriculum promoting MyPlate fruit and vegetable and physical activity messages. Nutrition messages in the six sequential lessons include: • Eat fruits and vegetables of different colors each day • Eat at least one kind of fruit and one kind of vegetable each day • Choose whole or cut-up fruit in place of fruit juice • Eat red, orange and dark green vegetables Interactive activities provide participants with opportunities to discuss ways they can eat a variety of different colored fruits and vegetables, add fruits and vegetables to meals and snacks and be physically active. Each lesson includes a food demonstration or fruit and vegetable tasting opportunity. Lessons are 60 minutes in length and incorporate opportunities for participants to set goals to increase their intake of fruits and vegetables and be more physically active. Each lesson includes: • teaching objectives • handouts and worksheets • food and equipment lists • key points to review • anchor, add, apply and away sections • additional teaching notes to assist in teaching the lesson Adult participants in Fruits & Veggies: Fabulous Foods sessions report eating almost 5 ½ daily servings of fruits and vegetables – about 2 ½ servings of fruits and 3 servings of vegetables. Fruits & Veggies: Fabulous Foods materials are available online at: https://extension.umd.edu/fsne/fsne-adult-programs/fruits-veggies-fabulous-foods Additional support for using this curricula may be available to sites serving low-income youth that develop formal collaborative agreements with Maryland Food Supplement Nutrition Education. After participating in Fruits & Veggies: Fabulous Foods programming, 6 out of 10 adults report regularly consuming 2 or more vegetables with their main meal, an increase of 50% from before the program.
