We further established ourselves as the small community school of choice in the wider community extending beyond the immediate Seaford area resulting in a steady growth for our school community particularly in the lower classes. Our dedicated staff work very hard to provide a safe and happy environment conducive to the students achieving high educational outcomes and a place where parents feel part of the school. Our small band of parent volunteers and PFC members also work extremely hard to create “community” and raise funds for extra resources. In summary the results of data is: Achievement We have high expectation of our students and Literacy and Numeracy remain our main focus. Teacher assessments of student AusVELS English show similar results when using the school comparison measures and in Mathematics show higher achievement results when comparing similar schools. In NAPLAN the Year 5 students performed similar to students in other similar primary schools in Reading and higher in Numeracy. Over a 4 - year average the comparisons were similar in Reading and Numeracy. Year 3 NAPLAN results indicate that our students performed similarly to students in similar primary schools in Reading and Numeracy. Over a 4 - year average the comparison were similar in both Reading and Numeracy. The NAPLAN Learning Gain from Year 3 to Year 5 shows the distribution of High growth in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Numeracy to be higher than 25% and Low growth to be very low except in Reading. Over 2015 the school achieved an incredible amount such as: conducting the 2012 - 2015 School Strategic Plan review and analysing the results we achieved; continuing the association with the Ardoch Foundation; Parents and Friends Committee raised over $12,000 in much needed additional funds; the continuation of Sub Committees such as Buildings & Grounds and Marketing; programs such as the Literacy Buddies, the music program and the choir, the Year 3/4 Doxa Adventure Camp, the End of Year concerts, Seaford Park’s Got Talent and the Arts Appreciation evening. Parent involvement is always welcome and provides great support to the staff, improves our grounds, helps with funding all those extra programs for the students, and much, much more. I encourage parents to spend as much time as they can spare helping in any way they can. It is a very rewarding way to spend any spare time. I know my daughter enjoys seeing me helping around the school. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL NEWS During the coming week, I will be conducting a survey with the students about where they enjoy playing in the yard and why. Students will be given the opportunity to voice their opinions about safe and unsafe play by marking areas on a simplified map of our school. I will enlist the help of our Junior School Councillors to analyse the information that we receive from the students and also brainstorm possible solutions to any problems that are highlighted as part of our investigation. We look forward to reporting our findings back to the community. Reminder to parents and carers that our school yard is not actively supervised until 8:45am. Students should not be arriving at school before this time unless you are directly overseeing their play. Members from the Family Mediation and Counselling Victoria visited a recent Network Wellbeing Meeting to share with us the services that they can offer to community members. This service offers family mediation, parenting plans, financial counselling and debt management, relationship counselling, family mental health, parenting programs, individual counselling for young people up to the age of 18 and living in the Frankston area. If you would like more information or a referral form for any of the above mentioned services please make an appointment at our general office to speak with me. Level 1, 146 Young Street, Frankston, Victoria 3199. T: 9784-0698

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY On the 20th May it was walk safely to school day. Nearly half the school participated in this magnificent event. The total of the whole school that walked, rode, scooted or skated was 61 students. 41 students walked, 12 students rode their bike, 8 students scooted and skated, 1 person caught the bus and 67 students went in a car. Below is the total number of students from each class that walked, skated, rode and scooted to school: Prep A - 7 Prep B - 4 1/2A - 7 1/2B - 11 1/2C - 10 3/4A - 9 4/5A - 7 5/6A - 6 Great job to 1/2B who had the most. We’d like to thank all the people who rode, walked, skated and scooted to school, well done. By Jolie and Charlotte. LEGO ROBOTICS On the 18th May Jack T, Harry R, Cohen F, Dylan B, Daniel N and Mrs Reid went to King David school for the whole day. On the way up to the school we sat together and we played with our robots cords and sound. When we got there we met a teacher named Milo. We went to a special room for his presentation, we played a game and we had to choose which disaster was the odd one out. After the game we had lunch, and then we programed our robots to do challenges. We used a nature’s fury challenge map, then we packed up ready to go to school. Milo gave us the map and all the challenge Lego parts which is fantastic. On the way home we talked about the day. By Daniel and Dylan SEAFORD RSL The President, Committee and Members of the Seaford RSL would like to thank the students and staff at Seaford Park Primary School for your support of the Anzac Day Appeal through the sale of badges. Once again the community has rallied beyond expectations with a total of $73,434 being raised. These monies are used to continue to provide assistance to veterans and their families. The contribution made by Seaford Park was $102. Thank you. Geoff Andrews - Senior Vice President. RICKETTS POINT WORKSHOP On the 26th May Mrs Reid took Jenna and I to the “I Sea I Care” Ricketts Point workshop. We arrived at the workshop at 9.50am and after that we had to wait for 30mins for the rest of the schools to arrive. Jenna, Mrs Reid and I were in group 3. Our first activity was talking with the marine rangers. They showed us the areas of the 3 marine parks, Ricketts point, Jaw Bone and Point Cook. The marine parks were established in1993 to protect this important marine life to allow sea creatures to populate and venture out into Port Phillip Bay to keep the food chain thriving. Our second activity was the sea grass. A Ranger called Russell tipped sea grass into Jenna and my buckets and asked us to find little animals in the bucket. We found some interesting animals like sea louse, shrimp, sea snails and sea lettuce. Russell said you can eat sea lettuce but he recommended not to. For the last activity we went out to the rock pools and we found all sorts of creatures and sea-weeds, we found two sea stars and interesting shells and pink seaweed. We would like to thank Mrs Reid for taking Jenna and l. By Brodie

THANK YOU - LEGO ROBOTICS I just wanted to thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedule to share your expertise with Tammy and her pupils. Can I tell you that I taught for many years myself and I’ve rarely seen that level of engagement and enjoyment in a lesson. What a joy! If you could have heard how excited those boys were on the bus back to school it would have made you smile. They were busily planning how to stage a surprise assembly for the school so they could show everyone what their robots could do. Could you also thank your amazing students for their patience, encouragement and positive mentoring and for the way they guided their charges towards collaborative work and thinking around the problem rather than just doing it for them. Thanks also to King David School for being so welcoming to all of us. Best wishes, Angela Knox Carter Education Partnership Coordinator Ardoch Youth Foundation. SCIENCE THIS TERM This has been an exciting term in the Science room with lots of fun activities and experiments happening! 4/5A was inspired during nature week to create these beautiful Mandalas in Amaroo. All grades had fun making GOO as part of learning how to write a Science Report in the senior grades while the junior grades had fun making it, playing with it, and using wonderful words to describe what they made and understanding if something went wrong, that was OK and you just tried again until we got it right! 5/6A enjoyed learning how to make Crystals, they looked Amazing! Each grade has spent time out in the School’s vegetable garden, helping me clean the beds out and getting them ready for planting seeds. The Preps helped plant carrot seeds, 3/4A planted lettuce and 4/5A planted broccoli, cauliflower and spring onions – so we look forward to seeing them grow! I just bought the school a new compost bin so excited to continue our composting and collecting worm juice from our worm farm! I would also like to thank EVERYONE who is putting soft plastic rubbish in our Red Bin and saving it from Landfill! We have filled 4 large bags already which is a great achievement!
