From The Principal ……. Cont’d Unpacking the daily MYTERN Message: Judging ourselves and others

Judging the roads that people have chosen is very easy to do. Discuss the fact that there are no wrong roads, as every road is either building your health or your resilience. Look for examples where you or someone else has been on a red road and were able to navigate back onto the green, outlining the positive aspects of such an experience. Talk about why it can be difficult to identify why you may have chosen a rough road when you are on it, as you are far too busy navigating the bumps. It is often only when it is well and truly in your rear vision mirror that you can appreciate the reasons for travelling such a challenging road. So don’t be too hard on yourself or others. It is not the choice of road that shapes your experience; it is

how you respond to it that counts.

Leanne Bradney Principal

It's easy to fall into the

pattern of judging the roads

that we and others take. No

roads are right or wrong -

they are either red or green

- building our health or

building our resilience. All

good.

WHAT’S HAPPENING?

PREP Next week is Literacy Week. Our topic is Fables, Myths and Legends. The excitement will kick off on Monday when children are to wear a mask of a character from one of these themes.

We will be making masks during class time so each Prep will have a mask at school. They do not need to bring one.

There will be no Literacy rotations on Thursday due to a special incursion for Literacy Week.

In the next couple of weeks we will be making dioramas in our Discovery Sessions. Each child needs to bring in a shoe box for this activity.

GRADE 1 This week children have enjoyed searching our schoolyard for different Mini-Beasts! We are looking forward to learning more about Mini-Beasts at our hands on ‘Creepy Crawly’ incursion tomorrow. Thank you to those people who have brought in bug books for us to share with the students!

To kick off our Literacy Week activities next week, students have been asked to wear a mask to Assembly on Monday from their favourite Fable, Myth or Legend. If you could please do your best to read a fable, myth or legend at bed time, or to fit in with our literacy theme of oral language you could tell your own story!

Just a reminder lunch orders are available Wednesdays and Fridays. Please make sure you let your child know if you are ordering an online lunch order through Qkr.

GRADE 2 Our CAFÉ focus this week is ‘Expand Vocabulary: Tune into interesting words’. The children have been looking for and discussing ‘emotive’ words when reading. At home, encourage them to think about whether the author of their book has used any ‘strong’ or ‘emotive’ words and why. Is it to make them feel something, persuade them or see the author’s point of view?

This week in Maths we continued to focus on ‘Numbers and Place Value to 1000’. We encourage all children to try out the ‘Number’ activities on Mathletics if they haven’t already done so.

The children have also delved deeper into our Inquiry topic, ‘Habitats Around the World’ this week with a focus on Grasslands. They shared some interesting questions which will steer them towards further investigation.

Look out for our latest ‘Grade 2 Newsletter’ which was sent home this week. We are geared up for a busy and exciting term!

GRADE 3/4 Next week is our celebration of Literacy. We are focussing on Fables, Myths and Legends. Please take time to read a selection of this genre to your children at home prior to next week and help them to choose a character and make a mask for Monday’s parade.

The children are also participating in a SEDA Soccer Clinic on Tuesday mornings and are really enjoying this experience.

On Monday of next week, students from Parkdale Secondary College will be teaching the children sports' skills as a part of their assessment tasks. We look forward to these activities. It is always nice to keep the connections going with our local secondary students.

We are also commencing our assessment tasks in preparation for End Of Year Reports. It is important then, that children are at school, unless they are ill, over the next few weeks. Congratulations to the following AR Certificate recipients: Cooper S, Cooper W, Bianca S, Tiffany B, Chloe C, Hanna A-T, Olivia H, Veronica W, Sarah W, Erika K, and Finn G.

GRADE 5/6 Our students have now been introduced to their Science Project for this term and they should be consulting Internet Science sites for ideas about the kind of experiment they wish to investigate. They have all been given guidelines to follow in addition to a range of suitable websites that can aid their research. This will be a Home based project.

All students are continuing to work on Data and Graphs in Maths sessions.

Our first of three Sex Education sessions has taken place today and your children may well ask you a range of questions that are related to the content of this programme.

Good luck to the GATEWAYS, Athletics and Aerobics teams this week. Grade 6 students should ensure they have Memory Book materials at school.

LIBRARY BORROWING—Prep to Grade 2 Just a reminder that children need to bring their Library bag and book each week. Some children are very good about the bag and then are disappointed when they cannot borrow because their last book hasn’t been returned. Please check at home to ensure all books are returned.
