Some thoughts from Fr. Mike…
Dear Friends,
The Scripture Readings for the Fifth Sunday of
Lent point in different ways to the passion and death of
Jesus. In the first reading, Jeremiah tells a broken
community that God will not forsake them, even
though they did not remain faithful to God’s covenant.
The prophet tells of a time when God will form a new
relationship with God’s people. The new relationship
was to be based on love and personal respect. God
wanted God’s children to have a new heart and a new
spirit that would help them discover the real joys of
life. God was going to offer the people a new
Covenant much like the new covenant that Jesus
introduced on Holy Thursday when he announced the
covenant sealed by his blood for the forgiveness of
sins.
The second reading today tells us that because
Jesus suffered and prayed with tears to be saved from
death, he can sympathize with our sufferings and show
us how to grow instead of being crushed by the
hardships of life.
In the Gospel, Jesus expressed unease about the
prospect of Calvary. While he was tempted to pray for
deliverance from the ordeal, he also understood that the
moment of greatest influence would come when he
was lifted up on the cross with his arms outstretched to
embrace the world. Christ on the cross shows us the
depth of evil that we humans are capable of while at
the same time showing us the heights of love that God
demonstrates in order to give us a new opportunity. To
emphasize this point, Jesus used the metaphor of the
grain of wheat, which dies and then produces the seed
that will bring new life. In order to experience growth,
we must be willing to allow those things that prevent
us from finding the life that God wants to die so that
something new, born of God’s love, may grow.
The struggle between good and evil will always be
with us. The temptation to find something better than
God and God’s ways will never be gone completely
from our lives. Perhaps that is why God offers us so
much mercy, love and forgiveness. As we continue
our Lenten journey, may our hearts and minds be
focused on all that God offers us to help us overcome
the temptations that try to lead us away from God.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS The Stations of the Cross help us to focus on various messages that can be received through the life-giving journey that Jesus underwent to offer us the gift of new and eternal life. On Fridays of Lent we gather at 7:30PM for the Stations of the Cross.

VIGIL WITH THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
On Holy Thursday (MARCH 29) we conclude the Evening Mass of the
Lord’s Supper by transferring the Blessed Sacrament from the
Tabernacle in the worship area to a Chapel of Reposition which will be set up in the Church Hall. We would like to have people sign up for one hour to be with the Blessed Sacrament throughout the night and up to 2:00 PM on Good Friday. There is a sign up list on the table at the entrance of the church. If you would like to participate, sign up for the hour that you will sit with Jesus. We need at least 2 people for each hour and would prefer to have 3 people for each hour. Let us be ready to Watch and pray.

EASTER FLOWER DONATION ENVELOPES
Anyone who would like to make a contribution toward our Easter decorations in memory or in honor of a loved one can find envelopes on the table at the entrance of the Church. It’s a
wonderful tribute to those people who have touched your life. All those listed on the envelopes will be remembered at our Easter Masses.

EASTER EGG HUNT The Ladies of St. Joseph will be sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 24 at 10 am promptly. Children will be separated into three groups: 7 to 9 years old, 4 to 6 years old and 3 years old and under. Afterwards, light refreshments will be served. There will also be gift baskets...one very special basket contains 2 tickets to Walt Disney World Park. Also, the Easter Bunny will be making an appearance for photos. If anyone who would like to donate filled eggs, please drop them off in Parish Hall by 9 am that Saturday morning. NIGHT AT THE RACES Join us for Night at the Races on Saturday, April 14 at 6:00PM. There will be food, beverages (beer and wine), betting on the horse races, a chance to become an owner of a horse for the race and prizes. The cost is $20.00 per person. The admission fee includes food and beverages and $40.00 in play money to be used for betting. Winners are awarded tickets to be used for chances to win prizes including large screen televisions and more. Admission tickets are on sale. Don’t wait – be sure to get your spot at the track. BASEBALL TRIP SPONSORED BY THE MEN’S GUILD! The St. Joseph Men’s Guild is excited to announce we will be hosting the 3rd annual baseball trip! This year’s trip will be to see the Philadelphia Phillies versus the New York Yankees at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Wednesday June 27! Tickets are $75 and include field level seats in section 108 and motor coach bus transportation to and from the game. Bus leaves from St. Joseph’s church at 4:45PM. BAPTISM BIBS During the Sacrament of Baptism a white bib is placed on each child. This is a sign of the child putting on Christ. We have been very blessed to have parishioners make the bibs which are given to each baby who is baptized. We would like to continue the tradition and invite others to join in this ministry. There will be training sessions/sewing session on Tuesday, March 20. There will be a session at 10:00AM and another at 7:00PM. You do not have to be an expert to make the Baptismal bibs. WHAT'S FOR LUNCH? The Ladies of St. Joseph will be hosting a culinary demonstration with Millstone chef, Jason Metz. Come and enjoy a delicious meal while picking up some creative cooking tips. FOOD COLLECTION The next food collection will be on March 31/April 01. Non-perishable food items,
paper goods and toiletries are appreciated. You can bring frozen food contributions to the Millstone Community Center on any Tuesday morning between 10:00AM and 11:30AM at the door to the lower level on Stage Coach Rd. You may also contact Greg at 732- 539-5042 to arrange pick up of frozen foods.

RELIGIOUS ITEMS COLLECTION Do you ever wonder what to do with those Religious items like prayer cards, rosaries, medals, etc. that are just laying around? Now through the end of April you can bring them in and put them in the box in the library. The Legion of Mary will take them and find a good home. The donated items should be smaller sized items. BAPTISM – The Sacrament of Baptism is normally celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month at 12:30 PM. Parents are asked to register for a Baptism Preparation Session prior to the Baptism. Baptisms must be scheduled in advance by calling the Parish Office. Sponsors must obtain Sponsor forms from their home parish – Sponsors must be active practicing Catholics. The Sacrament of Baptism is not celebrated during the Season of Lent. Marriage – Diocesan policy requires that arrangements for Marriage be made one (1) year in advance of the wedding. Refer any questions to the Pastor. Sick Calls – Please contact the Parish Office when someone is seriously ill requiring a visit by a Priest. If someone is unable to attend Mass on a regular basis and would like to receive Communion please call the Parish Office Registration – We are glad you are here and want you to feel like a full member of the parish. Registering as a parishioner helps us to know who you are and to stay in touch. Registration is required for sponsor forms. Sponsor Certificates – This is a form required to be a Godparent or Sponsor for Confirmation. To receive a form, the following is required: -Be a registered, active (attends Mass) member of the parish (for at least 6 months); be at least 16 years of age; must have completed the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation; If married, have a valid marriage within the Church.
