Cedarwood Preparatory From the Headmistress 21 January 2015 Weekly Newsletter Dear Parents The children (and staff) have had a week to settle into their new classroom routine and make new friends, and it seems like they are all settled and working happily! We do apologise for the late delivery of the Walton’s stationery orders, and hope that everything is now in order. It is frustrating when, despite the best laid plans, things do not always go smoothly. Thank you for your patience in this regard. We are very sad to announce that Mrs Dev Dalhuijsen will be leaving us at the end of February, as her husband has been transferred to KZN, and is, in fact, already there. Bev is known to everyone at Cedarwood, both here in the Prep and up at the College. She has contributed an enormous amount to the growth and success of Cedarwood over the 7 years she has been here, and she leaves huge shoes to fill. Her position has been advertised, and we hope to make an appointment soon. The therapy / psychology department will also undergo some restructuring from next term. Meagan Meiring will no longer be working at the Prep as her College commitments increase, so the new appointment will take over the role of co-ordinating the IEP’s which Meagan has been doing up until now. Careful and intense hand over will take place to ensure the smooth transition of this process, and luckily, Meagan is just across the car park for any future queries or advice! Extra murals are in full swing and most children seem to be involved in one or more activities. Please remember to ensure that your child has the correct kit for their sport / activity, as well as an extra snack and juice. If there is anything you are still not sure about, please don’t hesitate to contact the class teacher, or relevant staff member, for more clarity. Dear Parents

The children (and staff) have had a week to settle into their new classroom routine and make new friends, and it seems like they are all settled and working happily!

Remember our doors are always open and we are never too busy to answer your questions.

Cedarwood welcomes

Sasha Mathwasa (3P)

to the school.

We know you will love it here!

The PTA Corner Uniform Shop

Cedarwood has a second-hand uniform shop at the school. It is open on a Thursday morning at drop-off (from 7.20am to 8am) but if you’d like to arrange an alternative time to meet with one

of us, please call:

Sharon on 078-800-5880 / [email protected] Lara on 072-122-6049 / [email protected]

We rely on donations from other parents, so please consider donating Cedarwood uniforms that your child has grown out of,

so that we can help other parents looking for uniform items. The items are very reasonably priced – this is an initiative

aimed at helping parents, not making a profit.

Have a wonderful week, The PTA team

[email protected] or 072-122-6049

Individual Achievements

Has your child achieved something special? Whether it be baking their first cake or

receiving their Gauteng Colours, we would love to know about it. Please write your

child’s Individual Achievement in the ‘Individual Achievements’ book in the foyer.

Lift club Mark Langhan (Grade 10) is looking to join a lift club to and from the Broadacres area.

Should you be interested, please contact Daniel Lanaghan on [email protected] or 082-568-8466

School Fees

Please note that annual discounted payments are no longer applicable.

Monthly payments are payable from the first of each month for 11 months—from 1st January to 1st November.

There seem to still be some payments that are outstanding for January and these will accrue interest charges.

Kindly ensure that the pupils name and surname is the only reference reflected on “beneficiary reference” as we have encountered many errors when account codes are used.

From the Sports Desk…

It feels like we are now really back to work, and that we are back to our old routine. It is only after you have been back at Cedarwood for some time that you realise how much you have missed the place and the people. Even though I have said this before, and even if I say so myself, this IS a GOOD school.

Allow me to give you a reminder about the sporting schedule for this term. There is team swimming on Monday afternoon, which will also be repeated on a Wednesday morning from 06h30 to 07h00. However, the morning session is optional even though pupils are encouraged to attend. On Tuesday, we have both mini-cricket and main cricket with Coaches Ryan and Simphiwe, while Wednesday is loaded with softball, non-team swimming and horse riding. Thursday will see the music classroom being used for music & drama held by Mrs Dancer, and volleyball taking up the court just next door.

Very soon, we will have the fixtures starting and the hive of activity you have come to know will return to Cedarwood. Swimming galas will be held at different venues on both Fridays and Thursdays, while cricket matches will be played on Wednesdays. Mini-cricket will take up some Fridays with their matches. You will notice that there are no more matches for softball during the week; this has been necessitated by the need to reduce congestion during the week, as well as changing the format of matches from leagues to tournaments. This is the same for volleyball, which we will be introducing as a competitive sport this year. I hope that you will bear with us for taking up your Saturday mornings.

I hope to be able to find time to chat to you all sometime about sport at our wonderful school, and share with you all the ideas we have, to improve sport for the amazing boys and girls that we are fortunate to have looking up to us. Kindly feel free to share any ideas you have with the sports department.

Kind regards Oliver Ngwenya
