It was wonderful to have the entire school out in the sunshine on Saturday for Sports Day. The races were fiercely contested but in a fun and supportive atmosphere. There were more races than ever before as the pupils competed in their individual year groups, and it was fantastic to see the effort, energy, commitment and determination in their faces as they strained every sinew to earn valuable points for their Houses. One of the highlights of the morning came when Jasper J broke the school record for the 800m, knocking six seconds off the previous record with an impressive time of 2:23.86.The morning ended with the exhilaration of the relays, as every child represented their House with great passion in this frenetic event. The atmosphere reached a fever pitch as the batons were passed from hand to hand, whilst the rest of the school cheered and roared on their teams. When all of the points for the track events were counted up and added to the scores from the field events, which had been running throughout the week, the Macaws won by an incredibly narrow margin of just 10 points.A great time was had by all, and despite all of the restrictions in place at this current time it was just great to be able to get out and see everybody giving their very best.Well done and thank you to the staff for all their help and support in enabling the event to run so smoothly.

However, orchestral touring to the other side of the world and three children are incompatible, so I was very

In Geography this week, the Year 1 class found their favourite ‘human feature’ in the playground and drew a pictures of it – can you guess what it is?

In Maths we have been finding out about halves and quarters using practical resources. Then we used a programme on the computer to test our knowledge.

In Year 2, we have continued to discover all about our animals in the Pre-Prep and this week we have learnt about our fish. After another interesting talk by Mrs McConkey, the children completed observational drawings of our fish and wrote fascinating fact files.

Here are some of the children’s facts:

•Fish are cold-blooded vertebrates that are covered in scales and have fins that help them to swim.

•Like reptiles, they lay eggs.

•Our tank in Pre-Prep is a community tank because we have different types of fish that live together.

•We have angel fish, glass fish, guppies, mollies, platies and tetras. There are even a few water snails too.

•We love watching our fish, it’s enjoyable and relaxing!
