We flew the children to Japan and taught them the very basics moves as sumo wrestlers!

Children go into a wide stance with their feet turned out.

This position engages the children’s inner thigh control and challenges them to find stability.

2) Raising one leg up while in a sumo squat position, then stomping it back down

This exercise helps children gain strength and develop their balancing skills

while having fun trying to make the ground shake with all their stomping!

They were then split into two groups to perform a showdown by playing a game of “Scissors, Paper, Stone”.

Ending off with a sumo punch in the air!

Besides being sumo wrestlers,

the Love children had to listen and obey the commands given to earn themselves a “sword”.

They practised coordinating their bodies to perform the following ninja actions:

Having to perform different actions simultaneously builds the children psychomotor skills.

The Joy & Peace children made a samurai dash to the “X” marked on the floor,

picked up their “sword” and did a half twist to face their friends.

Next, they performed a series of jumps (with their swords) similar to the Love children.

For this group, they had to complete their actions independently, without any prompting from the Teachers!

Do the children get confused as to where to place their hands?

Should their right hand be above their left, or their left hand above their right?

Will some be caught in an awkward position while attempting those actions?

Yes!

To handle or control objects (e.g. a stick) well involves locomotor movements

and these movements do not come naturally or intuitively for many children.

Children have to be exposed and taught object manipulation skills and gradually, discover their dominant hand/foot too.

These skills will help them to perform activities such as sweeping the floor with broom and dustpan,

as well as being ready for sports like golf/floorball/hockey in future.
