Sarah Hilary & Julia

Crouch : 2.00pm

Sarah Hilary is an award-winning short

story writer. Sarah won the Cheshire Prize

for Literature in 2012 and her novel

“Someone Else’s Skin” was widely praised

for being one of the most accomplished

debuts of the year by critics and authors

alike. It was selected as a Richard & Judy

book club choice in Autumn 2014 and “No

Other Darkness” is her brilliant follow-up,

featuring the phenomenal and

unforgettable DI Marnie Rome.

Whether you call it a portfolio career or

just a dire inability to stick at one thing,

Julia Crouch has had many jobs but she

has never been happier than the past 5

years, when she has been fully occupied

as a writer, producing 4 novels in her very

own Domestic Noir genre.

She lives in Brighton with her husband,

the playwright and actor Tim Crouch and

their 3 children. She is putting the finishing

touches to Dark & Stormy Brighton, the

first Brighton crime genre festival and is

well into her fifth book, to be published in

2016.

Sunday 21st June

Margaret Callow:

10.00am

Margaret Callow lives in a village to the north of Norwich with her family. After

working as a health care professional for many years, she came to writing novels

late. Discovering her interest in the social history of England, she researched the

ordinary people of the day who fought to improve the conditions for the working

man which we enjoy today and her novels are a result of this fascination for the past.

When a shocking crime in Norfolk in 1848 caught her eye, she wrote” Rust” based on the true story of James Bloomfield Rush &

the murders at Stanfield Hall.

Barbara Nadel: 11.30am

Murder in Turkey

Barbara Nadel was brought up in the East End of London without the benefit of central heating. She has a degree in

psychology and over the years she has worked as a teacher, a bar maid, a fortune

teller, an events manager and, most significantly, in mental health services

both in hospitals and in the community.

Now a full-time crime writer, she currently produces two fictional series, one set in

Istanbul (The Inspector Ikmen mysteries, published by Headline) and the other in the East End of London (The Hakim and Arnold series published by Quercus). In 2005 her Ikmen book 'Deadly Web' won

the CWA Silver Dagger for fiction and her latest Hakim and Arnold 'Poisoned

Ground' has been entered for the CWA Gold Dagger this year. Barbara is married

with one grown up son. She likes scrambling about in ruined buildings, cats

and wearing a lot of black.

Simon Brett is the writer responsible for the Charles Paris, Mrs Pargeter and Fethering series of crime novels, as well as radio and television series such as No

Commitments and After Henry. He says “I am very fortunate to make a

living (most of the time) from something I would do anyway. I

can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to write. I still do, and I want to

do it better”.

In 2014 he was presented with the CWA Diamond Dagger for

sustained excellence and significant contribution to crime writing.
