Hello all, as many are aware I have taken the role of Unit Manager. Our team of dedicated staff at Caladenia makes me proud to lead this facility. My door is open for any areas of care you may wish to discuss. My hope over the coming months is to see some very positive changes in our home to make it more homely. Some of you may have seen the painted outdoor furniture done by Mick and our lads here. Staff have been get- ting into the program, helping residents dress for special days. Its always good to see residents enjoying themselves and to witness the great team work to all involved. Thanks Jenn Tracey’s tales Hello all, we all hope that you enjoyed the Easter break. I have a couple of items of in- terest to share with you. Our mothers day luncheon was held on the 6th of May and those who attended really enjoyed them- selves. Thanks for being a part of the day. The biggest morning tea will be held on the 28th of May for a gold coin donation. On June 5th watch out for a re- turn visit from The Ac- cordion Players. So come in and enjoy the show. I am still waiting on a few media release forms to be returned. I am re -mailing these with this month‟s cal- endar of events. Can you please complete them and return asap. Our Aged Care Ac- creditation is sched- uled for the 7th and 8th of July so you may see a couple of unfamiliar faces at Caladenia however they will be keen to both observe and hear about the quality of care provided and will also offer feed- back on any improve- ment for implementa- tion. Thank you all for completing the „satisfaction survey‟ which is being com- piled at present. Re- sults are being tallied at the moment. BLACK AND WHITE LUNCHEON

UKELE HAWAIIAN FESTIVAL

We had a great afternoon, celebrating a Hawaiian Ukele afternoon. Gloria recently mentioned that she had always wanted to go to Hawaii so, with palm trees on the table, drinks adorned with umbrellas, and flowers in our hair we did our best to make this happen in our own little way. It was a sight to see and hear all the residents sing along to “When I‟m cleaning windows” by George Formby.

Les‟s favourite colours are black and white (Maybe because of Collingwood) and his favourite music is the Beatles—so we had a day just for him ~ A Black and white luncheon, with Beatles music. Plenty of residents came and enjoyed the day together.

Memorial for our loved residents

ANZAC CONCERT

We were lucky to have Sheree’s dad

and his theatre group come sing stirring

songs of remembrance for us. May we

all think of the personal sacrifices of all

our defence forces on Anzac day. A

photo has been taken with each resident

who attended holding poppies. Please

let us know if you would like a copy.

LEST WE FORGET

On Thursday the 23rd of April we held a memo-

rial service for the residents that have passed

away in the past six months. We were able to

spend time with each family and remember the

times shared with us here at Caladenia.

May all those who are grieving know that all the

staff and residents at Caladenia are thinking of

Does your family member have a

taxi card? These cards entitle the

member to cheaper fares.

Caladenia has taxi application

forms available for you to com-

plete. Maxi cabs have hoists to

help take your loved one out.

Friendly pets welcome

Almost everyone loves animals and for residents of Caladenia this is no exception. Being able to hold, pat and even observe a pet can be very enjoyable and relaxing. If you have a clean and well behaved pet and an occasional hour to spare we would wel-come a visit to spend some time with resi-dents. Your pet will need to be on a leash and it is also important that they do not jump up on residents (as the skin of older persons can be fragile). If you are inter-ested speak to Carmel or mention it to a staff member who will forward your mes-sage and contact details.

Enjoying mealtimes with residents

Families and friends are encouraged to join residents at mealtimes. Sharing a meal time together is a time honoured tradition of fam-ily life and you are very welcome to continue this at Caladenia. Join us in the dining room or arrange to use the more private areas of Caladenia to chat and eat. There is a small cost associated with the meal (e.g. soup $2.50; sandwiches $4.00; Salad plate $6.00; Main meal $6.00; yoghurt $2.50; sweets 2.50). To ensure availability you are asked to ring prior to 10 a.m. to order a meal). As the financial administration of meals is man-aged directly by hospital administration meals ordered by family members will be costed through to the resident.

Aged care complaint system

One of the forums in which residents, families and friends can have their say about any issues at Caladenia is through this monthly meeting. The meeting runs once per month and is where residents, families and friends have the opportunity to raise your concerns and discuss them with other residents, family and staff. It is our responsibility to follow-up and where appropriate to make relevant changes. The minutes of the meeting are posted in the dining area so please check for full details. If you would also like your own copy you can ask a staff member to print one for you. At our latest meeting residents dis-cussed a range of items of interest. One of our regular agenda items is the programming choices residents would like for the next month. Residents were also informed of the up-coming accreditation of aged care and of current audits and surveys being completed.

Resident’s Meeting - last Wednesday of the month 2-4 pm

PLEASE HELP US KEEP OUR RESIDENTS SAFE!

If you have been visiting Caladenia could you please make sure the

doors click back into the locked position when you leave.

We encourage an "open door” approach which invites residents to share their concerns with staff. Many people feel uncomfortable about doing this and fear negative conse-quences of raising issues. However, residents and relatives can be assured that we see complaints or negative feedback as an opportunity to improve the care and services pro-vided. Complaints do not have to be in writing.

What can you do if you have a complaint?

Tell the staff

Tell the Unit Manager

Tell the Director of Nursing (Jenny Salkeld)

Complete a facility feedback Form, available from the front foyer, or ask a staff member for one. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, or aren't happy with the response you can contact the Aged Care Complaints Scheme directly on 1800 550 552.
