The MCC Indians Boosters, Inc. is a non -profit organization formed in 1996 to support the growth and pros- perity of McCook Community College through its sports programs. The Boosters provide book scholarship funds to MCC for athletes, publish the sports media guides, assist with the purchase of uniforms and equipment, provide some meals for athletes when the dorm is closed, sponsor special events and promotions and assist with improvements to playing fields and gyms. MOBILE VASCULAR DISEASE SCREENING Bryan Health will provide mobile vascular disease screenings on Wednesday and Thursday, August 21 and 22 in McCook. LEADERSHIP TEAM TO VISIT MCCOOK A leadership team from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, headed by Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., will visit McCook, Gothenburg and Holdrege on July 30-31. The group will meet with health, higher education, government and community leaders and will provide updates on new initiatives at UNMC and UNO and how they benefit rural communi- ties. The visits provide an opportunity for leaders to better under- stand the challenges communities face and determine how the univer- sity can better serve them. “These visits are not only our opportunity to share what we are doing at UNMC and UNO and learn what the community needs are, but an opportunity to build relationships with community leaders, health care professionals and citizens who know best the unique challenges and strengths of their hometowns,” Dr. Gold said. Leaders joining Dr. Gold on the trip include: Bob Bartee, vice chancellor for external affairs at UNMC; Dan Shipp, UNMC and UNO vice chancellor for student success; Sacha Kopp, Ph.D., UNO senior vice chancellor for academic affairs; and Nikki Carritt, deputy director and program manager of Area Health Education Centers (AHEC). SPORTS The Class B6 Seniors District Baseball Tournament begins

today in Cozad. The MNB Bank Seniors are the top-seed and

will face Holdrege in their first round game today at 1 p.m.

Other first round matchups include Minden vs. Gothenburg

and Doniphan-Trumbull vs. Cozad. The Class B State Juniors

Tournament kicks off tomorrow morning in McCook. The First

Central Bank Juniors will face Central City at 7 p.m.

Nebraska junior wide receiver JD Spielman was honored

Thursday afternoon, as he was named to the Biletnikoff

Award preseason watch list. It was the second straight year

Spielman garnered a spot on the Biletnikoff Award watch list.

The award is presented to that season’s most outstanding FBS

receiver, regardless of position. Spielman is one of only five

Big Ten players on the 50-member preseason list. The 5-foot-

9, 180-pounder has a chance to finish his junior season as the

most prolific receiver in Nebraska history. He is only 68

catches and 1,099 yards away from the Husker career record

in both categories. Last season, Spielman hauled in 66 passes

for 881 yards and eight touchdowns, despite missing the final

two games of the season. He finished on NU’s top-10 single-

season list in catches (third), yards (ninth) and touchdowns

(seventh). Spielman ranked among the Big Ten leaders in

receptions per game (6.6, second), receiving yards per game

(81.8, fourth) and all-purpose yards per game (111.5, fifth) en

route to earning All-Big Ten honors for the second straight

season.
