NEW DELHI, Jan 16:

Defence Minister A K Antonywas today briefed by the Army onthe role of women officers andincreased opportunities includingcommand roles for them in theforce in the times to come.

The Army has, however, notagreed to have them in combatroles in the force due to thevagaries of the battle-field butsees a role for them in the com-

bat-support arms such as theartillery and the army airdefence.

During the presentation, theArmy told the minister about the

increased opportunities forwomen officers in Staff appoint-ments as well as the prospects ofinducting them in combat sup-port arms, they said.(PTI)
