The children returned with lots of stories about their Christmas break. They have settled quickly and have embraced the new topics with enthusiasm an eagerness to discover new things. We have introduced our 'Good to be Green' behaviour system to celebrate our pupils who follow our 5 golden rules and encourage those who need more guidance to make better choices and take more responsibility for their actions. The children have had the opportunity to trial the new system this week ready for a fresh start on Monday. We would really appreciate your feedback during our Parents' Evenings in February. We need your help! We are starting to paint the corridors to freshen them up and we have asked Mrs Lintott to paint us a mural on the long wall leading to the library. At the moment this is a blank canvas but we have seen the design she has done for us and it is fab...however, we need indoor paint (emulsion) – and lots of it in different colours. If you have half empty tins you no longer need or unused tester pots you would be happy to donate then please do let us know. It is going to take her a while to do but all donations will be gratefully received. If you are unsure of its suitability then please speak to Mrs Lintott or the office who will find out for you. Thanks for your help! NOTICE OF CHANGE To enable us to wrap things up at the end of the week the newsletter will now go out on a Friday rather than a Monday. You will find copies on the board outside the office and on our website.

I would firstly like to wish you all a very happy New Year and I hope you had a delightful Christmas with your family and friends. The children returned with lots of stories about their Christmas break. They have settled quickly and have embraced the new topics with enthusiasm an eagerness to discover new things. The children have had the opportunity to trial the new system this week ready for a fresh start on Monday. We would really appreciate your feedback during our Parents' Evenings in February.

This week we have started using a new reward system at Maple Tree called ‘Good to be Green’. The

main idea of this system is that we always look for the positives, give opportunities to the children to

enable them to make better choices and allow regular ‘fresh starts’ through praise, encouragement and

rewards. It is an effective way of promoting positive behaviour and allows for recognition for pupils who

behave appropriately whilst allowing us the opportunity to support those who sometimes find this

difficult.

All classes have their own class charters which they agree with the children at the start of the year but

we have a set of 5 Golden Rules which were created by a group of children and which all children are

expected to follow during their time at Maple Tree. These rules will be discussed in lessons and

reminders will be given visually around the school.

Maple Tree Golden Rules

1. Listen to everyone and don’t shout.

2. Co-operate and do your best.

3. Always be polite and nice.

4. Follow instructions

5. Respect all equipment and others

When children are seen to be following these rules then they are rewarded. We know that not all

children recognise what they have done as being especially good so on a Friday children will be given a

Good to be Green sticker so that you can also see how well they have done during the week. There is a

separate sheet of information which was sent out with this newsletter to give you more information.

Paper copies will be sent out next week for you to read and sign with your child.

Watch out for the frog on a Friday!

Good to be Green!
