PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
PARENT PARTNERSHIP
On Monday evening we shared some time with Year 7 2016 students and parents. It was
great to see all their beautiful faces and happy smiles as they shared their excitement for the
journey ahead into high school.
The night started with some time to socialise and have a light supper and the atmosphere in
the room was very warm and friendly.
I look forward to continuing this partnership with our new families in 2016. The family is a very important part of a
student‟s life and research shows that children whose families are engaged with the community of the school are far
more likely to succeed.
POPE FRANCIS: LEARNING TO FORGIVE
Pope Francis believes “the family is a big training ground, dedicated to teaching
devotion and forgiveness”. He often reiterates the core meaning of the Lord‟s
Prayer, “Our Father”: “forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us”. The Holy Father emphasises that if we do not devote
ourselves to our families or forgive those around us “love will not endure”. The
Pope implored families to never end the day on a bad note, but to “ask
forgiveness”. “If we learn to ask forgiveness straight away and to forgive one
another immediately, wounds will heal, marriages will be strengthened, families
will grow stronger”.
“If we learn to live like this as families, we can also be like this, wherever we are”. Pope Francis emphasised that
forgiveness does not only save families from divisions, but makes them “better equipped to help society to be less
evil, less cruel”.
The Pope directly addressed Christian families recently, saying that they could do a lot for today‟s society, and also
for the Church. “During this year of the Jubilee of Mercy, I hope that families discover the gift of forgiveness”.
INTECH 2016
We received more great news this week as we have two students nominated for
inclusion in InTech 2016, which is the annual exhibition of outstanding Major
Design Projects developed by 2015 HSC Industrial Technology Timber
students. This is most certainly an honour and a great reward for many hours of
their hard work, and also the generous time given by our teachers Geoff Thick
and Matt Currie.
Congratulations to Joseph Gaynor and Joshua Lawrence.

SCHOOL FEE REMINDER
I appreciate the wonderful support we receive from parents and a considerable number
of grandparents who make the payment of school fees a high priority. I also appreciate
the commitment many have made by so readily embracing the preferred „direct debit‟
method of paying fees. This method gives us a cash flow throughout the year and
enables us to meet our own financial commitments on an on-going basis.
If you have outstanding fees I would urge you to finalise the account as soon as
possible. This will assist us greatly to meet our own commitments and provide the resources required to maintain a
high standard of teaching and learning. Anyone experiencing financial difficulties and who may be unable to meet
the standard fee, should not hesitate to contact our school Fees Manager, Trudi Hosking (65887444), so that
alternative arrangements can be made.
SUBJECT FEES
I would also appreciate parents paying all students‟ subject and excursion fees. All these fees are
paid directly to the venues or cover transport costs incurred to run these extra activities. If you are
in need of assistance please call me as soon as possible.

YEAR 7-10 MAJOR AWARD CEREMONY
A special occasion for our junior students is the Year 7-10 Major Award Ceremony which will be held on
Wednesday, 16th
December at the MacKillop College MPC (Junior campus). This is an opportunity to
acknowledge students who have excelled in many areas, academic, cultural and sporting. These students
receive a trophy as a symbol of their involvement and achievement in a particular area.
It has become a tradition that these awards are sponsored by families or businesses in our College
community. If you are interested in sponsoring an award we would love to hear from you. Your support is
invaluable and greatly appreciated. The cost of the sponsorship is $50 per award.
If you are in a position to assist, please contact the College office 65832632.
Thank you in anticipation

SUBJECT AND EXCURSION STATEMENTS – YEARS 7-10 Thank you to those families who have met this commitment. Term 4 fees are now overdue.
Reminder statements were mailed this week. Payments via Bpay are encouraged on a regular
basis (weekly/fortnightly) for those who are not making payment in full. These amounts may
need to be increased over the coming weeks to ensure a nil balance is on the account by the
beginning of December.
Queries regarding these accounts should be directed to the main College office (Ocean Drive).

YEAR 11 NEWS
Congratulations to Lauren Darcy who attended the NSW Schools Constitutional Convention at
Parliament House in Sydney on Monday where she was involved in workshops aimed at developing
understanding of the constitution and giving young people a voice in politics. At the end of the day,
Lauren was selected as one of thirty students to attend the 3-day National Constitutional Convention
in Canberra in March 2016. This is a wonderful achievement for Lauren who is passionate about
community involvement.
I would like to commend Year 11 students on their attendance and respectful behaviour at the Rrisk
Seminar at Panthers last Friday. They were very attentive throughout the presentations and would
have learned many strategies to help them deal with the issues of alcohol and drugs and being young
probationary drivers. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to focus on safety, helping one
another and making the right choices in difficult situations.
Reports have been distributed to students and I urge parents to discuss these with their children and look at ways to
make the next 12 months, the final year of their schooling, a great year focused on doing the best they can.

RELIGIOUS NEWS
CHRISTMAS HAMPERS
Last week at assembly we launched our annual St Agnes‟ Parish Christmas Hamper appeal. During the coming
weeks, PCs and staff will be doing their best to embody the true spirit of Christmas, by putting together hampers
for those families in our community who are in need of assistance. The hampers provide much appreciated practical
items of food and gifts, but more importantly, they also bring light and joy to families for whom Christmas may be
a difficult time, either financially or otherwise. PCs work together in pairs to organise the hampers. Please take
some time to speak with your children about the importance of contributing to this appeal. In our assembly prayer,
we reflected on how easy it is to become caught up in the stress and extravagance of Christmas, and that we need to
make sure we are remembering what Christmas is all about; remembering the birth of Jesus Christ the Saviour, who
calls us to be people of justice and hope for all. Contributing to the hamper appeal is one practical way we can all
do this.
FESTA CHRISTI
Next week 12 Year 8 students will head off to Coffs Harbour to take part in „Festa
Christi‟ which is a two day retreat for students in the southern part of the diocese.
They will take part in lots of fun activities and reflective opportunities, looking in
particular at what it means to be a person of faith. Senior students from around the
diocese will help to lead them through these activities. We wish them all the best
and look forward to hearing about their time when they return, inspired and
energised.
FATHER GALEA VISIT
We are very excited that internationally acclaimed Catholic Priest, singer and
songwriter, Fr Rob Galea, will be appearing at MacKillop College on Tuesday,
17th November at 9.30a.m. Fr Rob will perform music and speak to students on
the theme „One.Strength: Unleash Your Potential.”
Apart from a series of recordings and CD releases, Fr Rob has also written a
number of songs for various campaigns and international conferences. He
recently appeared on Channel 7‟s popular reality TV show, The X Factor, where
he received four “yeses” from the judges. He has also featured in national
newspapers, magazines and television programs around Australia
including Channel 10's, The Project.
In addition to Fr Rob‟s presentation at MacKillop College, he will be presenting at St Joseph‟s Regional College
on Monday, 16th November from 11.15a.m., and St Paul‟s College Kempsey on Tuesday, 17
th November from
1.45p.m. He will also be leading a music workshop for youth and young adults involved in providing music at the
St Agnes‟ Parish Youth Mass, and attending a dinner with youth ministry leaders from across the parish.
We are very much looking forward to his visit and being inspired by his passion and talent.

OPEN GIRLS WATER POLO
The open girls‟ water polo team were a pleasure to coach. A talented group of young girls who worked extremely
well together and came up with excellent results. The team was lead with the quiet determination from our two
Year 11 girls Lucie Williams and Sarah Lotter.
Taylah Maxwell continually saved the day in goals and was supported well in defence by Ruby Dickson and
Jasmine Lawrence. Isabelle Poole, Amelia Humphreys and Hannah Post provided strength and versatility in
the middle whilst the speed of Kayla Murray and Jade Horton combined to produce some great goals. It was an
exciting day for the girls and they faced some physically tough competition.
As always the MacKillop girls fought hard and displayed outstanding sportsmanship to come away from the
competition with a win, two draws and a loss.
Best and fairest was awarded to Jade Horton.

OPEN BOYS WATER POLO
Nine players in the senior water polo team competed in the Diocesan water polo carnival at Alstonville. The team
were competitive all day against some strong opposition.
The boys won their first game against Kempsey 6-2 and their second against Xavier Catholic College 4-2. The
team met their match against Trinity in game 3, going down in the final seconds 4-3. The team won their fourth
game convincingly beating Mt St Pat‟s 6-1. The final game proved to be the most challenging where the team were
defeated 5-1 by a well drilled Woodlawn team.
The team was well lead by Declan Harding whose experience in this
sport proved invaluable on the day. Lachlan Kirkland, Mitchell
Everingham, Jordan Lickley and Noah Cornale provided speed and
strength upfront, creating opportunity for goals to be scored. Charles
Finnerty was outstanding in goals and well supported by Isaac
Lawrence, Josh Morley and Darcy Gray.
Best and fairest Declan Harding.

15 YEAR BOYS WATER POLO
The 15 Boys‟ water polo team enjoyed a good day out at the recent Diocesan water polo championships. The team
were defending the title that they won last year. This year's team was a young team with seven players who are
eligible to play again next year and just one player (Max Milligan) from last year's winning team.
The team improved throughout the day and after starting with losses against Woodlawn (0-5) and Mt St Pat‟s (1-2),
the team enjoyed wins against St Joseph's Banora (2-0), St Paul's Kempsey (2-1) and a draw against eventual
finalists Xavier Ballina (1-1).
Congratulations to all players on representing MacKillop College in water
polo and we look forward to a big year next year. The team consisted of
Scott Heslop, Luka Sagolj, Tommy Brennan, Isaac Post, Max Milligan,
Kristofer Sagolj, Dillon Walsh-Hall, Lleyton Wall, Patrick Mullens and
Tom Osborne.
Congratulations to Isaac Post and Max Milligan who were joint best and
fairest.

15 YEAR GIRLS WATER POLO
Congratulations to all the girls who played in the under 15s team. All girls gave 100% every game and for half of
the team this was their first ever water polo tournament. The girls had a successful day beating Banora Point 4-1,
nil-all draw with Woodlawn, 3-0 win over Casino, 1-0 win over Ballina, 2-0 over Kempsey and 2-0 win over St
Pat‟s Murwillumbah.
These fantastic round game results lead to a final showdown against Woodlawn. All of the girls played fantastically
in the final, however, Woodlawn were eventual winners 1-0. Congratulations
to all the girls on becoming Diocesan runners up.
The team consisted of Naomi Langley, Teah Christiansen, Miren Davies,
Julia Williams, Ebony Harding, Amy Mutton, Jacqui Palmer, Georgia
Caire, Caitlin Murtagh and Alannah Grose.
Best and fairest is awarded to Ebony Harding; a special mention to Ebony
for her outstanding leadership and water polo expertise displayed in every
game.

Championships in Perth where the NSW team made the final against Queensland going down in a tight encounter.
Josh has been training tirelessly and honing his skills throughout the past three years with the goal of being selected

MACKILLOP BAND DAY
On Thursday, 5th November MacKillop College hosted the inaugural MacKillop College Band Day. Year 6
students from our feeder schools who will be attending MacKillop College in 2016, together with students from
MacKillop College currently participating in the instrumental program worked together throughout the day on
repertoire, culminating in a performance for parents later that night. The purpose of this day was to provide an
opportunity for Year 6 students to gain an understanding of the scope of the co-curricular music program and to
work with students involved in the program from Years 7 to 11 to further develop their musical skill and
confidence.
The Band Day was directed by Mr Rob Denham and Mr Frank Rugers (Bluegum Music). Assistance was provided
on the day by Mrs Sam Adams and Temujin Nichols. All students involved in the Band Day gained much from the
day and the sound of the large 50 student strong concert band was particularly exciting; looking forward to 2016.

LITURGICAL MUSIC WORKSHOP
The MacKillop College Praise Band have been invited to participate in a liturgical music
workshop presented by Father Rob Galea on Monday, 16th
November. Father Rob
Galea is an ordained Catholic Priest and is currently serving in Sandhurst Diocese,
Victoria after moving to Australia from Malta, his home country. He is a singer and
songwriter with an international fan base. Apart from a series of recordings and CD
releases, Father Rob has also written a number of songs for various campaigns and
international conferences. In addition to the workshop on Monday, 16th November,
Father Rob will be speaking to the whole College community on Tuesday, 17th

The music workshop will take place from 2.00p.m. to 4.00p.m. in the MacKillop College Junior Theatre. Students
are asked to be present at the beginning of period 5 with their instruments. This is a fantastic opportunity for
students to learn more about liturgical music and how we can better serve our Parish community musically. As
such, I encourage all members of the Praise Band to attend.
REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE Due to the exceptionally busy nature of Term 4 it is essential that all students regularly
attend rehearsals and arrive on time. If a student is unable to attend a rehearsal they must let

TERM 4 EVENTS
Term 4 is always busy for schools with many end-of-year events and activities. Please take note of the events
outlined in the “Upcoming Events” section below to stay on top of household organisation during this busy period.
Of particular importance is the Co-curricular Music Showcase and Awards Night. This night was highly successful
last year and has become an annual event. This showcase concert aims to acknowledge the efforts of co-curricular
music students and showcase the outstanding talent that comes through our College. It is essential that all members
of the Co-curricular Music Program attend.

BEYOND BANDS
Last year local youth from around Port Macquarie
ran a community band night called “Beyond
Bands”, aimed at Years 7 -12 to raise money for
the mental health organisation, Beyond Blue.
It was a great success with 300 people attending
and raising $1300. This year they are running
Beyond Bands again, except this time they are
raising money to support the St Vincent de Paul
McCosker House, a homeless refuge. It is on
tomorrow night at the local Port Macquarie Youth
Hub on Horton Street. The doors and café will
open at 5.30p.m. with bands kicking off at
6.00p.m. and finishing at 10.00p.m. There will be
café/cake stalls, Henna tattoo station, fairy lights
and lots of picnic rugs and pillows to help enjoy
Port‟s local musicians. The tickets are $5 and may
be purchased on the night or via Hannah Post at
the Senior Campus. The official line-up is Strong
Heart, Plebeian Groove, Manic Man Child, The
Shonas, Jack Rabbit and Abby & Connah Wilson.
For more details check out the Beyond Bands
2015 Facebook page and look out for the
posters around school.
