The Best of Both

In July 2018 GE Industrial Solutions was acquired by ABB. As we bring these two companies together, we’re optimizing our assets to better serve you. The following are a series of frequently asked questions to address what to expect as we combine these two businesses, resulting in the Best of Both.

1. Who is ABB? ABB is a pioneering technology leader in power

grids, electrification products, industrial automation, robotics and motion, serving customers in utilities, industry and transport, and infrastructure globally. Continuing a history of innovation spanning more than 130 years, ABB today is writing the future of industrial digitalization with two clear value propositions: bringing electricity from any power plant to any plug and automating industries from natural resources to finished products. ABB operates in more than 100 countries with approximately 147,000 employees. In the United States, ABB has approximately 24,000 employees in over 100 locations, and more than 9,000 distributor locations.

5. When can I get these new Best of Both products you are talking about? Are they currently available?

Over the next couple of years the entire one-line will be updated and integrated. The ReliaGear® neXT Power Panel and ReliaGear® Lighting Panels, available in Q1 2020, are the first offering to integrate ABB Tmax® XT circuit breakers into GE equipment. Switchboards, switchgear, and motor control equipment across low and medium voltage will also be updated after that, as we launch new, integrated products on a quarterly basis. Contact your ABB sales representative to get more details about our product launch roadmap.

6. What investments are happening in the United States?

ABB is optimizing and expanding its Electrification business in the United States to meet growing demand for medium-voltage and low-voltage products and systems that are used to ensure, safe, smart and sustainable electrical distribution. ABB is investing up to $39.9 million to expand its Mebane, North Carolina facility and create approximately 400 new jobs in the next 5 years, and will discontinue production at its Lake Mary, Florida unit. This expansion has a clear focus on driving efficient production for our U.S. customers. ABB is also investing up to $36 million to expand its Senatobia, Mississippi facility in advanced manufacturing, creating an additional 50 jobs. This expansion will strengthen the company’s capabilities for full production of the low-voltage ABB Tmax XT circuit breakers and automatic transfer switches to support growth in customer orders while providing competitive lead times.

7. What are some of the industry leading technologies that I can expect from ABB components when integrated into GE panels?

ABB circuit breakers have long been recognized by the industry for their innovative capabilities. For example, the Tmax XT compact design and improved ampacity options enable better breaker density within the ReliaGear neXT power panel, and more 100% rated options. Additionally, the Tmax XT and Emax 2 circuit breakers with optional ABB Ability integration can deliver advanced technologies including remote monitoring, preventive maintenance and energy management via the cloud.

8. What are the Tmax XT Circuit Breakers? The Tmax XT molded case circuit breakers offer

extraordinary flexibility and completeness of range

to simplify system designs and reduce inventory and procurement costs. With current ratings up to 250A and a voltage rating of 600V, Tmax XT provides both AC and DC current in the same breaker. This, combined with extended breaking capacities up to 200kA, gives Tmax XT molded case circuit breakers the ability to cover a full range of applications. Tmax XT is globally certified UL/CSA/IEC with a wide range of naval registrations and much more. High breaking capacity in compact dimensions with extraordinary limiting characteristics allow footprint savings in a switchboard, high selectivity values and very compact motor protection solutions. electrification.us.abb.com/products/circuit-breakers/tmax-xt
