Issue 08 - 25 June 2020
Frenchville State School acknowledges the Darumbal people as the traditional custodians of the
place we now call our school. We pay our respects to the Elders past and present and are proud to
be supporting and encouraging emerging Indigenous leaders every day.
Principal’s News
As we close one of the most interesting and challenging school
terms I have ever worked through, I would like to say an
enormous thank you to our school staff for going over and
above to support our students, our community and each other.
Thank you also to our parents for respecting the new rules and
ways of working in our school and supporting us when students
are sick and keeping them at home.
The new COVID Operating Guidelines have been released this
week. There will be a return to some of our normal practices
within the school after the break. In brief some of the changes:
• Camps and excursion can go ahead with industries that
have COVID safe industry plans
• Instrumental music, bands, choirs can recommence
• Religious instruction can also recommence
• School Swimming pools can reopen with requirements
around limiting classes and lessons. We have made the
decision to not commence school swimming this year due
to some of the procedures and management of this.
• School assemblies can recommence. However we cannot
have parents attending at this stage.
Visitor access to the school is still restricted. This includes
having parents on site. We will still be having our Prep and Year
1 drop off and pick up areas operating next term. All visitors to
site will need to maintain social distancing and hygiene
practices.
We have also made the decision to cancel our Year 6 camp to
Canberra in September. There are still too may variables and
unknowns that we cannot manage safely. We are however in
the midst of planning a Local Ambassador camp around our
local area at the end of Term 4 to showcase our wonderful area
and to inject much needed funds into the local economy.
Traffic Changes
The P & C and the school have been working with the local
council, Main Roads and bus companies on traffic issues
around the school. In the near future, hopefully over the
holiday break, traffic areas will be redesignated to support
traffic flow in peak times.
The bus lane will move to the loading zone in front of the
Administration block and F Block. The current bus zone will
be a loading zone where parents can drop off and pick up
students. The loading zone area adjacent the oval will be
extended so parents can also access this area to drop off
and pick up and then exit onto McCullough Street and onto
Frenchville Road further down easing congestion on the
Geordie Street intersection. We also rely on parents being
patient during peak times.
School Opinion Survey
Parents and Caregivers are invited to participate in this
year’s School Opinion Survey and have a say about
schooling during the COVID-19 lockdown. You are also
given the opportunity to provide feedback about our
school more generally.
Participation in the survey is anonymous and you are
encouraged to take this opportunity to have your say. The
survey form has been designed so that it can easily be
completed on a computer or smartphone. The online
survey will be available until Friday 17 July 2020, and
should take less than five minutes to complete.
To access the survey, please click on the link below or copy
and paste it into your web browser:
https://survey.qed.qld.gov.au/form/Parents-HaveYourSay
Report Cards will be issued to parents at the end of Week
2 Term 3.

Volunteers are needed to help with the second hand
stall. If you are able to assist with selling the uniforms,
please contact the office.
2021 Prep Intake
As per the Enrolment Management Plan, only
students whose principal place of residence is within
the school’s catchment area will be eligible for
enrolment at the school. Students who are siblings of
current students at the school are also deemed
eligible for enrolment. We are therefore requesting
that younger siblings of students that will be current
in 2021 who are eligible for prep in 2021 complete the
enrolment forms and lodge with the office as soon as
possible. A reminder of the age rules for prep 2021: If
you have a child born from 1 July 2015 to 30 June
2016 he/she is eligible for prep enrolment in 2021 at
Frenchville State school. For more information please
contact the office on 4931 5333. For enrolment
forms: www.frenchvilless.eq.edu.au/enrolments
Uniforms
We are a ‘uniform school’ and therefore require all
students to be in the correct uniform daily, including the
correct colour jumper (Royal Blue which can be
purchased from the uniform shop) and tracksuit pants/
stockings/ leggings.
Please ensure that your child is in correct uniform each
day for two reasons- firstly it sets a standard of pride in
our school and secondly and more importantly, it allows
us to easily identify all of our students.
Please ensure that if your child has hair that is shoulder
length or longer (irrespective of gender), that they have it
tied back/up each day. One of the fastest ways for head
lice to spread is when hair is not secured.
In relation to shoes, so long as they are closed in to
protect toes, again it is your choice for this item of
clothing.
All students MUST wear a bucket, broad-brimmed or
legionnaire style school hat when they are outside. Again,
school hats are available at the tuckshop.
Please ensure that ALL items are clearly named.
If your child loses an item, it is their responsibility to find
it. There are two lost property spaces, one under C Block
and the other under E Block.
