POPULATION3rd most populous country of Europe, after Russia & Germany.(January 2006) total population is 63, 587, 700.Total population of Metropolitan France is 61, 004, 684.Population is growing at a constant rate.The increase in life expectancy is showing a decline.(2002) the migration balance was of 62, 000 people.

Beginning of 20th century, the life expectancy was 47 for woman and 43 for men.Presently, the life expectancy at birth stands at 83 years for women and 75.5 for men.The disparity in life expectancy of men and women is the largest in Europe, which is 7.5 years.French women have the second highest life expectancy in the World.

Average of disparity in terms of life expectancy between men of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region and Midi-Pyrenees region is 5 years.Statistics in 2001 shows: French - (191 children/100 women) European - (147 children/100 women)
