Stripe Pattern #1: * 4 rows A, 2 rows C; repeat from * (6 rows) Back: With smaller needles and B, CO 64 (70, 76) sts. Work in Garter st for 10 rows. Change to larger needles and continue in Garter st for 8 (14, 14) more rows. On RS, join A and continue in St st until piece measures 15 (16, 17) from beg. On WS, bind off 19 (21, 24) sts for shoulder, work across 26 (28, 28) sts and place on holder. BO remaining 19 (21, 24) sts for shoulder. Front: With smaller needles and B, CO 64 ( 70, 76) sts. Work in Garter st for 10 rows. Change to larger needles, continue in Garter st for 0 (6, 6) more rows.

Sleeves (Make 2): With smaller needles and B, CO 34 (36, 36) sts. Work in Garter st for 10 rows. Change to larger needles and join A, continue in St st and Stripe Pattern #1. Increase 4 sts evenly across row #1, 38 (40, 40) sts. AT SAME TIME: Increase 1 st at each side every 6th row until 58 (62, 66) sts are reached. Work even until piece measures 11½ (13 , 14)" from beg. Finishing: Sew left shoulder seam.

Neckband: With RS facing, with smaller needles and A, pick up and K72 (74, 74) sts evenly around neck. Work in k1, P1 rib for 7 rows. BO in rib. Sew 2nd shoulder and neckband seam. With embroidery needle and strand of D, tack down several sts at center of pocket on Garter rib. Ear: With larger needles and D, CO 3 sts. Work in St st, and increase one st at each side every other row until 7 sts are reached. When 8 rows from beg, decrease one st at each side every other row until 3 sts remain. On RS, K3tog, and leave 5" tail, and weave to the bottom of ear. Tack down and trim. With embroidery needle and long strand of D, form chain st around ear. Fold ear lengthwise and attach as indicated on chart.

Eye:

With embroidery thread and strand of A, form large

French knot, and attach as indicated on chart.

Tail: Cut three 9" strands of D and fold in half. With crochet hook, pull strands through top corner on pocket, opposite head. Loop and form knot. Braid tail for 3”, knot end and leave 1” fringe.

Mane: Cut 13 strands of C for back of giraffe neck. To form fringe, fold each strand in half, pull through with crochet hook, and loop through front as indicated on chart.
