Geographic DistributionIt is found at the top of the Yangtze Basin. Its range is confined to small remote mountain areas in the central China provinces of Sichuan, Gansus, and Shaanxi.They once lived in lowland areas, but farming, forest clearing, and other development now restrict giant pandas to the mountains.

CaracteristicsLifespan between 15 and 25 years. Captive pandas: past the age of 30Black fur on ears, eye patches, muzzle, legs, and shoulders. The rest of the animal's coat is white.Tail is short and white.Large molar teeth and strong jaw muscles.Weight of a male panda is about 175 to 250 pounds. The female weighs about 150 to 225 pounds.
