MEMBERSHIP WORKBOOK: CHALLENGES

CHALLENGE BASICSWhat do we mean by a free challenge?

A free challenge is a type of marketing promotion that you can run to:

• grow your email list and audience

• better engage your audience and create some buzz

• highlight your expertise and showcase your membership

• provide additional value to your audience

• incentivise people to join your membership site

Challenges tend to be between 5-30 days long and provide some kind of

daily content designed to help people achieve a specific goal.

Example: a 5 day content creation challenge where the goal is to create 3

months worth of blog content in 5 days.

The challenge should relate to your membership topic so that the natural

next step for challenge attendees is to become a member.

How do you run a challenge?

You can run challenges in a variety of different ways, the most popular are:

•Email – send a daily email containing each days content direct to the

challenge participants.

•Facebook Group – create a pop-up (temporary) group where you add

your daily content and engage with people taking the challenge.

•On-site – run the challenge as a mini-course on your website,

releasing a new lesson every day.

MEMBERSHIP WORKBOOK: CHALLENGES

For best results provide daily videos/activities in a pop-up Facebook Group, combined with live Q&A sessions and email reminders.

Unless there is a specific reason for it being longer, 5-10 days is enough for most challenges and easier for both you and attendees.

Have some kind of live interaction and Q&A – we find Facebook Live works well for this. The more you can engage people the better.

Leave content available for a few days after the challenge to allow for different timezones and catch ups.

Promote your membership at the end of the challenge. You can combine this with a special offer such as a 14 day $1 trial, discount or bonus gift.

Make the offer only available for a short time (no more than 14 days) and give your challenge participants several reminders about the membership offer.

Conversions to your offer can be increased by running a live tour of the membership alongside a live Q&A.

Follow up after 6-12 weeks with those who don’t take your challenge offer with a repeat of the offer or a different offer.

The rest of this workbook will help you to plan the details of your own challenge and provides a checklist to help with running your challenge.
