Fransabank started in 1998, as part of ourwide array of pioneering corporate respon-sibility initiatives, JABAL, the first-of-its kindart-advocacy and promotional initiativeestablished by a financial institution inLebanon. JABAL has since proudly assistedthe discovery of over 300 young talentsfrom all the Lebanese regions. Artists, whoqualified in JABAL were selected fromamongst hundreds of applicants thateagerly competed to promote their workswhich could include paintings, sculptures, photography, videos, installations anddesigns. Thus, new horizons have beenopened for many of our emerging artistsand many have since gone on to hold soloand group exhibitions worldwide, therebymaking a name for themselves.
Fransabank Group’s support to JABALcomes from our belief that corporate socialresponsibility is about making a tangiblecontribution to the sustainable developmentof the society through creating long-termvalue for the Group’s different stakeholdersin the communities where we exist and operate. Our CSR strategy has earned theGroup an exemplary place at the heart ofLebanon’s corporate landscape where ourCSR activities continue to drive momentum.
This year we will be holding our 9th editionof JABAL. Since art embodies our heritage,we feel it is our responsibility to convey it,
and so we use our excellent corporatenetwork to serve this purpose perfectly.JABAL is more than ever the symbol of asuccessful cultural contribution to society;by giving Art an audience, Fransabankenables emerging artists to show their workin a professional environment that reflectstheir diversity and vitality.
The 2013 edition of JABAL will offer a richexhibition showcasing the work of 25promising artists selected by JABAL’s artisticcommittee. Paintings, sculptures, photo-graphs, drawings, videos, installations anddesigns will be exhibited at the Hotel LeGray. Located at the heart of Beirut, Le Grayis the only hotel in the capital with a consid-erable Lebanese and foreign art collectionwith more than 500 paintings dispersedthroughout the hotel premises.
I would like to express my gratitude to allthose who supported emerging andpromising artists in Lebanon by attendingJABAL. With its prominent and rigorousselection, the 2013 edition will not disappoint, but will in fact prove to be inspirational, refreshing and captivating! I wish the 2013edition of JABAL all the success!

The previous JABAL exhibitions allowedsome 300 emerging artists to showcasetheir creations in the best conditions. Thus, in its wake, since 1998, many of themare recognized and renowned on theinternational art scene and are prides to theCedars Nation.
This year, at the launching of our ninthedition, we received more than a hundredportfolios of painters, sculptors, photographers, videographers and designers! It was sodifficult to select among all these applicants25 finalists, since the diversity and vitality ofthis emerging contemporary art affected usdeeply!
Reacting with diverse temperaments, artistsare looking for a visual language and anaesthetic measure where demands of theirtemperaments, lessons of the past and theneed for visuals are balanced and fulfilled. The creations of these young talents are astriking example of a personalized approach, where boldness and freedom have given anew meaning to creativity. Art is one of thepriority values of our time because it helpsstimulate reflection on our times.
We wish to be as close as possible to thedynamism and energy that young artists inLebanon offer us to see. We believe that thelatter, as witnesses of their society, arealways vectors of ideas with their own lookon political and/or economic situations.
Thanks to the initiative of Fransabank, andin an era where art and creativity explodeand witness increasing favors in all areas,JABAL is now more than ever the inflectiveand successful expression of a culturalcontribution;
JABAL is a unique experience for all thoseart lovers and amateurs of discoveries aswell as an art affordable for everyone!
We can only applaud the initiative ofFransabank, sponsor, explorer and supporterof young designers and artists fromLebanon.
We will work towards preserving its vocation while providing all improvementsnecessary to its success.

Fransabank’s legacy dates back to 1921when it was first established in Beirut as theLebanese branch of a major French bankinginstitution. For more than 90 years, thebank is an integral part of a Lebanese socialand economic fabric, which makes it a civicsociety even before being a financialinstitution.
Being the witness to the contemporary historyof Lebanon, and in particular its culturalferment; culture has always been embeddedin our mission and to which we devote bothhuman and material ressources to supportand encourage.
During the post-war period, after 1992,Fransabank was among the first banks toinvest in culture. The adventure materializedin 1998 with the launching of the first exhibi-tion "JABAL" (Jeunes Artistes des Beaux-Arts du Liban), which quickly became anoriginal platform, a unique support anddissemination of contemporary art inLebanon.
This initiative, which gathers in each editiondozens of emerging artists (painters,
sculptors, photographers, videographersand designers), allows fans and collectors todiscover the potential of those young artists, selected by professionals at an annual exhibi-tion. It reflects our corporate belief thatculture is essential, but has no value unlessit is accessible to all. For years, Fransabankacquired art pieces and works of theseyoung artists which decorate the walls ofour headquarters and branches.
In 2013, JABAL makes its come back on theLebanese cultural scenery with 25 promisingartists selected by JABAL’s artistic committeefor this new edition.
JABAL initiative enjoys the full backing andsponsorship of Fransabank’s ChairmanAdnan Kassar and Deputy Chairman AdelKassar, as both have a strong passion forart. It is mainly under their impetus thatFransabank shows resilience in continuingthis initiative and confirms the bank’s role asa talents’ discoverer and as a supporter toemerging artists, while endeavoring to putin place a policy for artistic partnership tomake art accessible to all for the culturalradiance of the generations to come.
