Friends from Circle 2 of the First Congregational Church of Riverhead celebrated the happy day with the Eastwoods. An old-fashioned Independence Day celebration will be held on Friday, July 4th, by Little Flower Children’s Services of Wading Ri- ver on their grounds. (Rain date, Saturday, July 5th). The festivities; dancing, rides, games, sing-a-longs will start at 6 p.m. Frankfurters, hamburgers, beer, soda and ice- cream will be available for the entire family. Admission fee is two dollars per car. Bonds, prizes and free dinners raffled off and an impressive display of fireworks at dark. Ellen Lutz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Robertson of Hallock Street, graduated from SUNY at Genesee last month with a 3.65 average. She received her degree in speech and hearing therapy. Ellen has joined her husband, Arthur, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Lutz of Jamesport, who is in the Coast’ Guard. He has been assigned to President Ford’s yacht, so the young couple will live in Washing- ton, D. C. Have you heard about "Hallock- ville” ? This is the name given recently to an area along Sound Avenue between Manor and Her- rick Lanes. A group of concerned individuals have become aware that this property, which belongs to LILCO, has a number of old houses and barns that are worth saving. The group has formed a committee: Shirley Smith, president; Mary Wood and Peter Candela, vice-pres- idents; John Pietrodangelo, record- ing secretary, Tricia Strzepek, cor- responding secretary and Peter Lucas, treasurer. They have planned a Cocktail Party on July 20 from 4 to 6 at the big barn in Hallockville to kick-off the project of restoring and saving this area. The future plans include a Center which will be used for learning and teaching by the community. Help get this worthwhile project going and come to the cocktail party. All are welcome. Donation is $ 6 . per per- son. Mrs. Asta Rinde of Church Lane, Aquebogue, attended two gradua- tions the weekend of June 22nd. Her grand - daughter, Lou - Ann, daughter of Earl and Lorraine Rinde of Commack, graduated from Commack South High School, and her grand-son, Jonathan, son of John and Joan Rinde of King’s Park, graduated from King’s Park High School. There were parties at both Rinde homes following the ceremonies and Asta had a lovely time at both. There were 80 people at Lou-Ann’s party and the Youth Fellowship of her church led a sing-a-long around a camp fire that evening. She will attend Suffolk Community College. Jonathan’s parents entertained friends and family at a party for him. He will continue his studies at college in Binghamton this September. He plans to become a veterinarian. The Golden Circle of St. John’s R. C. Church has two Sunshine Ladies: Mary Flanagan and Marie Gallagher. The Riverhead Friendship Baptist Church on 59 Anchor Street will celebrate its Eighth Anniversary on Sunday, July 6 at 3:30 p.m. at the church. Dr. W. H. Tolbert, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Riverhead, his choirs and congrega- tion will ofTiciate at the anniversary services. Rev. A. Charles McElroy, pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church, invites everyone to attend. Library patrons may now receive advance announcements of library trips and special activities by mail. Alice and Herb Kappenberg of Riverhead have just returned from a cruise on their boat, “See-Saw,” to Chesapeake Bay. Carl and Inez Vail of Southold cruised with them on their boat, “ Inez IX,” with their guests, Oliver and Allison Morrell of Maryland. They had a wonderful two and a half weeks. The weather was good and they visited George- town, St. Michaels and other inter- esting places along the way. The Chorus of the Peconic now meets every Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the store across from the Riverhead Methodist Church (next door to McCabe’s). All men who love to sing are invited. Incidentally, with July 4th upon us, perhaps you would like to know that our own Chorus of the Peconic has made the first Bicentennial record in the country. The Ladies’ Aid of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Aquebogue will meet on July 8 at the home of Mrs. Emma Quidas. The Riverhead American Legion Auxiliary Unit 273 has a Public White Elephant Card Party planned for Wednesday, July 9 at 1 p.m. in the American Legion Clubhouse on Hubbard Avenue. Door prizes and refreshments will be served. The Auxiliary Unit will not hold regular business meetings during July and August. Two celebrations at Russ and Joan Fleischman’s home on Sunrise Avenue this month. The June meeting of the River- head Parents Group featured a Foreign Language Presentation. It was presented by Richard Gas- coyne, Odessa Henry, Hildegarde Wilson, Ursula Arnone and Sara Gomez and included slides and a demonstration of a Spanish lesson. This was the third meeting of the year. The Steering Committee will meet over the summer to plan next year’s programs. They will include workshops as well as general infor- mation meetings for Riverhead par- ents. Committee members are: Carol Denys, Carol Dohren, Claudia Bertorella, Carol Ferguson, Barbara Lebkuecher, Carol Munzel, Joanne Neilson, Mary Lou Dreeben, Nancy Willmott, Barbara Michelowski, Brenda Rosen and Sue VanDerzee. Dorothy Smith of Merritt’s Pond Trailer Park spent a month-long vacation visiting her friend, Mrs. Henry Stanley of Houston, Texas. They took a motor trip to New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Utah and Mexico. Dorothy saw many beautiful and impressive sights. The “ Hole in the Rock Home” memorial to artist A. L. Christen- son in Utah which was built when 50 thousand feet of rock was removed, and some of the Indian dwellings impressed her the most. It was a great trip but, as always, it’s good to come home, too. The Riverhead Chamber of Com- merce is sponsoring a bus trip to Shea Stadium on August 15. The San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets will play. The cost is $8.50 for the bus and ticket. The group will meet at 5:30 p.m. behind Swezey’s Department Store. Call the Chamber at 727-7600 for your reservation and join in the fun. Bill Demetriou, son of Blanche and Bill Demetriou of Hallock Street, graduated from Riverhead High School on June 22. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was the Jazz Drummer in the school’s stage band. The Demetrious held a party that eve- ning at their home for Bill. Friends, neighbors and relatives crowded in and everyone had a wonderful time. Bill will continue his education at Suffolk Community College in Sel- den where his major will be accounting. Babe Zaharias Day will be held at the Hampton Country Club in Riverhead on July 16 for the benefit of' the American Cancer Society. Marcella Leonard is the chairman and Marilyn Brewster represents the Riverhead Unit. So many activi- ties are offered: a golf tournament, tennis, cards, a poolside cocktail party with unlimited cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, just breakfast or just lunch. You may participate in all or any or a combination of the activities. An “ All Day Package Special” is only $25. Remember, we are all needed in this fight against cancer. The discussion will be “Art of Breastfeeding and Overcoming Difficulties.” All women who are interested in nursing their babies are invited. The Aquebogue Bicentennial Committee meets the last Tuesday of each month at the Old Steeple Church in Aquebogue at 8 p.m. Please try to attend and bring a friend with you. Next meeting, July 29. Miles Fairley, Gerald Lum, John Renner, William Godfrey, Thomas Corrigan, William Sanok and Phillip Rysko are the Directors of the Riverhead Rotary Club for next year. They were installed at the Rotary Dinner-Dance held at the Holiday Inn on June 25. A special attraction will be fea- tured at the Fair of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Matti- tuck on July 12. The Fair starts at 10 a.m. and the special Pet Show starts at 11 a.m. If you have a pet you would like to show off, enter him in the show. All pets must be with someone and leashed or caged. If you want to change your party enrollment, this can also be done. Those of you who have turned eighteen this year must register to vote. Abrams of Hampton Bays Mobile Park, Hampton Bay, N.Y., has been assigned to U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand, from Plattsburgh AFB, N.Y. concern with respect to the current doctrinal unrest in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod was the subject of discussion. An interesting exchange of views of the various aspects involved, reflected an in- herently strong faith in its parish- ioners. The meeting was adjourned with the hopes and prayers that existing differences may be resolved and that a lasting reconcilliation may be achieved. Our Redeemers Vacation Bible School will be held from Monday to Friday for two weeks, July 7 to July 18, from9a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Classes will be held for all ages from three years old up through those who have com- pleted the sixth grade. This year’s theme is “An God says ‘1 Promise*.” The theme emphasizes the truth that God’s promises are the only sure things when life around us looks so uncertain. This is done, of course, on a level that will be readily understood by the pupil. The O.R.L.C. Womens Guild are preparing for their Annual Yard Sale scheduled for Friday and Saturday, June 27-28, and invite attendance by the public at large. Radio Station WRIV has donated the time be- tween 7:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., on Saturday, July 19 to the use of Kiwanis. The Kiwanians, them- selves, will do the programming and announcing for that period. Advertisements and pledges are now being solicited with all the proceeds going to community ser- vice. The names of all donors will be broadcast. Programming will include local music and interviews with people who have helped and been helped by Kiwanis activities. The Kiwani- ans believe in their slogan “ Show You Care,” and need the support of the community to show it cares. RIVERHEAD REPRESENTED ■Lieutenant Governor Jerry Villani of Riverhead, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Velys, Mr. and Mrs. Rich Young, and R.A. McCallum and William Span- burgh of Riverhead attended the 60th annual convention of Kiwanis Inter- national ia Atlanta, June 22-25. All are members of the Kiwanis Club of Riverhead. As delegates, they elect- ed new Kiwanis International Of- ficers and trustees, passed resolu- tions upon which the organization’s 1975-76 community service programs will be built, and amended the Kiwanis International constitution. The K iw anians, th e m ­selves, will do th e program m ing and announcing for th a t period.
