Diary Welcome to Week 6 of Term 3. We have quite a busy few days ahead of us, but I guess
that is nothing unusual!
NAPLAN results went home last week, and I am sure that parents and carers have
made the time to check out individual results. We still have a long way to go in regards
to achieving State averages, however there was some very exciting trend data to come
out of this year’s results which indicates that our school is definitely on the right track.
We are improving across Year 3 and Year 5 at a rate greater than the state and other
schools like us. Our kids are learning faster, and even if we do not have them at their
full potential yet, we are making massive gains. This is great news and something that
our whole school community should take great pride in. Please feel free to give me a
ring or pop in should you have any questions in regards to this assessment process and
what we get out of the data.
Our school level Spelling Bee is now complete. Congratulations to McKeely Ricaud, Ad-
am Griffiths, Lucy Smith and Mitchel Smith who will be representing our school at the
Regional Finals. Lucy and Mitchel will be traveling to this event with their parents. Ad-
am and McKeely will be away on our Canberra excursion when our local final is held so
they will be participating in a video conference final on the Friday that we return.
Ms Baker reported that our school representatives, McKeely and Patrick, did a won-
derful job representing our school at the special “Battle of Long Tan” service on Thurs-
day. The Returned Service Men and Women were quite touched that the students had
come along as a mark of respect for their sacrifices and those of their mates during
this conflict.
Ms McArthur and Mr Lambert will be at training all week, becoming instructors for the
ropes course that is based at NHHS. This training is quite intense, but will open up a
huge resource for our students. Very exciting times lay ahead!
Our Book Fair starts on Tuesday and Mrs Coulter has been very busy organising lots of
wonderful goodies that will be for sale in the library before, during and after school.
Our Book Fair will culminate in a Book Parade on Thursday. All of our students will be
encouraged to dress as their favourite book character and parents and carers are
warmly invited to attend this wonderful event.
Our Rugby League 7’s boys will be heading to Sydney at 7:30am on Tuesday. We have
4 games in our pool as we contest the State Championships for the second year in a
row. The boys are pumped and Mr Freebairn can’t wait to see their training put into
action. We wish all the boys the best of luck! I will be joining the team on these 2 days,

Australia; Story Country! is the 2016 Book Week theme. As well as story book characters, some great
dress-up ideas for our parade at 2:00pm on Thursday 25th August include these Australian legends: Ned
Kelly, the Jolly Swagman from Waltzing Matilda, Clancy of the Overflow and The Man from Snowy River!
More ideas include Flat Stanley, Hairy McLarey, Big Bad Bruce, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Twits, Matilda,
Tough Lester, Deadly Jones, The Rainbow Snake and Tiddalik. Please join us!
but will be in constant contact with the office should you need to give them a ring in regards to anything.
On Friday our Open Girls Netball team will travel to Port Macquarie to take on Hastings PS. Mrs Bekis and
Cass are so proud of the girls and how far into the knockout rounds they have progressed this year. Win,
lose or draw, they have achieved incredible results and should take great pride in their efforts against
teams from schools much bigger than ours.
On Sunday our Tournament of The Minds Team will be heading off to Coffs Harbour to participate in the
Regional Level competition. Our team of Angus, Sonja, Isabelle, Hayley, Lucy, Jasmine and Declan have
been working tirelessly with Mrs Daley and Mrs Inchley to refine their dramatic interpretation of a prob-
lem and its solution. We wish them all the best in this challenging and unique competition.
Have a great week everyone. Todd.

SRC News
Our SRC are asking our school to take part in Favourite Jersey Day on Friday 2nd September. Wear your
favourite football jersey for a gold coin donation. All monies raised will go to Macksville Hospital.
Basketball V Sandy Beach
Last Wednesday, our Senior Boys Basketball Team came up against Sandy Beach PS in the Regional Finals.
Even though the boys were down 14 points in the first 5 minutes, they were able to match, point for
point, for the remainder of the game. This was due to their level of skills, teamwork and great attitude
throughout the entire month.
