    ARTIST PROFILES//James Harcourt//

    //TWISTED FREQUENCY/BONZAI//

James also started to take his own production to a new level in 2006. Since then, his

tracks & remixes featuring the sets of many of A-list DJ's. He has won the admiration

and explicit praise of Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Ian Ossia, Nic Fanciulli,

Sebastien Leger and Fergie among others. His tracks have been placed onto an

impressive list of CD compilation placements, including Erick Morillo's Subliminal Winter

Sessions, Hernan Cattaneo's Renaissance Sequential series, Hook'n'Sling's Chew The

Fat! CD and the legendary Pure Pacha collection in 2008 - true testimony to the global

dance floor appeal of the music.

James 2006 summer release "Loud & Low" was voted best new single by Fergie on Radio 1 - and he was invited to interview

for the One-To-One feature on the same show. In 2007 James has released singles for Spin Out Records, Baroque, Bug Eyed

and of course his own labels. His remix of "Music People" for Mokilok was featured on Seb Fontaine's Radio 1 Essential Mix

along with his globally celebrated collaborative track "Schadenfreude" with Udaye Rana. He has also mixed a 2xCD compilation

of Twisted Frequency tracks "Twisted Frequencies 01".

Influenced by club experiences in Ibiza and London, James started

dabbling in production in 2001 - but started to take production seriously

in 2005/6, when he had found renewed focus & enthusiasm for a

vibrant house music scene. He planned his independent label (Twisted

Frequency Recordings) during 2005 and launched it at the start of

2006. Featuring his own works - plus artists & remixers he loved fromall over the globe - the label has gone from strength to strength,

featuring work from himself, Audiojack, Spirit Catcher, Mike Monday,

Lutzenkirchen, Hernan Cattaneo, Hook'N'Sling and others whilst

winning praise from all the mags & all the top jocks on merit alone,

operating with very little promotion and no third-party management.

In 2008, James has gone another step up with some long awaited studio upgrades!

The first fruit of this change was the release of the "Call & Response" E.P. - which hit

the no. 3 spot on Beatport.com and has sold over 10,000 downloads to date.

Legendary trance label Bonzai also just signed James' acclaimed remake of Push

"Universal Nation", it was one of the most hotly anticipated tracks of 2008, featuring

on James Zabeila's Radio 1 Essential Mix, picked up for the Cream Future Trance

series and being caned by all the best DJ's in the world.

2009 has seen James kick off with a remix of Tyrrell's "LaLaLaLaLaLa" which has been riding the Beatport charts whilst this

years Beatport awards have seen him nominated in the Best Artist & Best Track categories for Tech-House. He has a new

E.P scheduled for April 2009, with remixes to follow on Underwater, Itch, Tribal Vision and Distinctive records.

    //Nick V.C.//

    //Strutt//

    //Alex Q-Bit//

Described as a One Man Rave" Peter Pixzel

has within the last 2 years been dj'ing some

amazing gig's around the world in city's like

    Berlin, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Milan and

London plus many other city's in Europe. In

London Peter Pixzel has played at his Electro/ Minimal / Techno set's at TDK festival,

Bugged Out, 1234 Festival, Trailer Trash,

Ministry of Sound and of course every

Sunday at his residency at WYS. WYS started

as an underground club night in East London

that steadily made its mark on the electronic

music scene here. Showcasing some of the

best DJ's and Performers from Europe and

beyond. WYS successes have recently been

rewarded with a new weekly Sunday night

    slot at Fabric.

    Algy Strutt co-founded the Furthur

Project and is steadily building a

reputation as a DJ that never fails

    to demand your attention. His

sheer dedication to the trade isborn out of an unparalleled love for

Alex is the co-founder and managing director of

the Furthur Project. As with many other

members of the crew he cut his DJing teeth in

the North of England before shimmying his way

down to London in 2006. With a strong leaning

towards freestyle music his sets are notoriously

difficult to pigeonhole, switching from one styleto another with consummate ease, always seeking to primarily

entertain and surprise his audiences. In order to further enhance his

development as a DJ and to match his thirst for musical knowledge

& theory Alex began producing music in mid-2007, almost

immediately capturing the attention of some esteemed peers for his

grasp of melody and instrumentals. His solo project leans towards

the more instrumental end of the tech/house scale drawing

influences from more classical acoustic modes of music such as jazz,

rock, soul, hip-hop, Latin and afro beat, staying true to the original

roots of house music. He also is a part of the Dog Soldiers Live

Electronics project with Presuming Ed, and will be releasing music

under both aliases throughout 2009 and beyond.

Selected by or two hosts for the evening from a pile of mixes as the winner of

our DJ competition and hailing from the southern most tip of the African

continent, Nick will be warming up the party for us with some extremely fat

    techy-electro sounds.

Be sure to get there early to catch a glimpse of this up and coming DJ!

If you would like the opportunity to play at one of our parties too, send your mix

electronic music; so much to say it is highly unlikely that Beatport

knows of a better customer! His exceptional attention to detail really

shines forth in his sets, which pull the audience through the full

spectrum of music at his disposal intelligently and with a skilled

awareness of the wants and demands of the crowd. Algy is also an

extremely talented photographer and graphic designer responsible

for much of the amazing artwork & design at Furthur Project HQ. His

own musical productions (and take on Tropical Techno!) are

developing nicely, demonstrating an acute musical awareness

combined with a distinct capturing of the unique palette of influences

at his disposal, be sure to look out for his first releases coming soon

THE BIG INTERVIEW//When Spyros Met James Harcourt//

This month, Spyros Malandrakis, our intrepid reporter, linked up with James Harcourt to find out about what we can expect

from him for his performance at Furthur Project, his secret debt to Abba, and to uncover a mysterious pattern emerging in thenames of his tracks? Read on to find out moreSpyros: Why a dj/producer? (Why not a carpenter? Or

    a fire-fighter or a banker perhaps?)

James Harcourt: Im not brave enough to be a fire-

fighter. I spent a long time in massive debt so Im the

lastperson you want working in a bank!!! But although

music was my religion from as far back as I remember,

I am also a programmer, engineer, I run my labelsmyself and also setting up a 2-monthly night in

Brighton this summer, so no time for any carpentry!!SM: First time you remember moving unconsciously to

    the beat?

JH: When I was about 8 I think listening to Abbas

Summer Night City ... but I was an indie kid and when

Born Slippy came out and they played the long

version in an indie club called Popscene I think thats

when subconsciously I knew I wanted repetitive beats

    in my diet

SM: Dance music is: (one word answers are considered

insufficient and will not constitute an acceptable answer

for passing the test !)JH: always going to be around

SM: The electronic sound is already past the playground stage and well over its teenage years, how does the future look? (You must have a

    better view from up there).

JH: Up where??? Ha-ha well its a difficult one to call. I think once youve been past the initial thing of a new, fresh sound/scene

coming up with a buzz, you get an inevitable rape & pillage if theres some commercial appeal and weve gone through that cycle more

than once now I think the economic situation will hurt the scene a little but I believe theres always a core of cool underground parties &

music which doesnt have to adhere to the latest buzz to be something special

SM: Most unforgettable applause was the one after my set in because... (e.g. because my mother was in the audience and/or they were

clapping with relief that the rain had finally stopped etc. please expand accordingly)

JH: Last year in Plan B Brixton there was an outbreak of applause that took me by surprise I just wasnt expecting it!

SM: Most embarrassing mistake while performing (honest):

JH: Turning a CDJ off in Herbal a couple of years go. Twice! Although the party is one of the best I played at, nobody seemed to care we

were all very messy by that point!!!

SM: When I m home I listen to: (I promise it will stay between us!)

JH: Usually its listening to new music or demos although Tim Sneath who runs T-Freq Digital for me is helping out on that score!

SM: You have been travelling around the globe for some time now: Which are the Cities/Crowds that define electronic music these days?

JH: I still think the best parties are the smaller UK ones where you have a loyal crowd of people who really love the music and know how to

enjoy themselves my last gig in Denmark on Saturday night was pretty special although I was told that not all parties there are as good as

    that!!

SM: You launched Twisted Frequency Recordings back in 2006. How are independent labels faring these days?

JH: I hear a lot of grim stories. Vinyl sales are right down, but Im still doing it. Its probably a little easier for me because I can put out my

own stuff on there if I want but in the main, I think times are harder than they have been

SM: Call & response to A Universal Nation of Music People singing LaLaLaLaLa in a Loud and Low voice. See what we did there? A

pattern is emerging... So how will your next huge hit be named?

JH: Very clever So its gonna be an E.P with two tracks Proton and Neutron. Ill be bashing both on Friday most likely.

Proton in particular has been getting great responses

SM: Your all-time top 5 tracks:

JH: Thats impossssssssible. It changes all the time 5 from my mind right now: 1. Flowered Up Weekender / 2. New Order True Faith

/ 3. The Stone Roses I Am The Resurrection / 4. Strangelove Sixer / 5. Pogues Fairytale of New York But there are sooooo many

more that could make this list if you asked me tomorrow it would be different!!

SM: So, what should we be expecting from you for Furthur Project?

JH: Groove, energy, melody, white noise, fat analogue basses, tough beats and electronic funk to name a few things!
