LOWVELD NOMADS (FOUNDED 1996) FEBRUARY 2015 THE NOMADS CREED “No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main ; Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; And therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee” from the Meditations of John Donne (1573-1631) CAPPIES COMMENT—FEBRUARY 2015 Sunday the 22 nd February marked our first game of 2015 at Nelspruit. The team at Nelspruit had the clubhouse in tip top shape for the Nomads’ arrival – what a pleasure. The course has taken a little strain with the heat this summer but still played great, although some of us battled a little. I played with Gary Botha, Andre Geldenhuys and Hennie Venter. We had great fun and managed to avoid the Worst Playing Four Ball. We had a field of 63 players for the day which is standard for Lowveld games. We issued another Club Shield this weekend and it will be an honour to have our Shield on presentation at another Lowveld Club. A very warm welcome to all the prospective Nomads at the game, namely Chris Rogers, Francois Elloff,Gavin Spies and Greg Rattray. We look forward to inducting you all in due course. Visiting Nomad, Allan Doble is on his annual trip to the Lowveld – it is always great to have you around Allan. We had five guests on the day – Billy Masters, Vuyile Reisha, Gavin Stainthorpe, Chalmers Pagiwe and Rob van Niekerk. Chalmers Pagiwe has sent a letter expressing interest in joining and I hope that we can induct him in the future. Gavin Bullen introduced Greg Rattray to the members – great to get some info on you Greg and we look forward to inducting you once the necessary prerequisites have been dealt with. It was my privilege to induct Lady Nomad Mary Kirby – a worthy addition to the team – welcome aboard Mary. Thanks to Barberton Ford – Jean Coetzee and his team were out again on the day and treated us to some beverages and boerewors rolls – thanks chaps – much appreciated. To our members on medical leave of absence, namely Dave Croxon, Bernie Olbrich and Monte de Smidt. Get well soon guys – we need you back.

FEBRUARY 2015

THE NOMADS CREED

“No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main ;

Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind;

And therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls;

It tolls for thee”

from the Meditations of John Donne (1573-1631)

CAPPIES COMMENT—FEBRUARY 2015

Sunday the 22nd February marked our first game of 2015 at Nelspruit.

Carel Triegaardt was present at the game to receive

his ten-year tie – great to see you around Carel – we

look forward to seeing you at more games and having

you playing again soon.

A team of 18 Lowvelders will be heading off to

Nationals on the weekend of the 21st March – we

wish them safe travels, awesome fun, great golf

and superb memories.

PS: The Bert Hunt Trophy would also be good

thanks.

Welcome to recent local sponsor additions, namely:

Camp & Gas

Sembcorp Silulumanzi

Nevills

Moco Light Steel Framing

Your support, together with all of our other long-standing sponsors, is vastly appreciated.

Reminders:

• The principles of ready golf.

• The call-up rule on short holes.

• Scorecards to be properly completed and handed in immediately following the game.

• Winter is fast approaching – please talk to Neville regarding Nomads winter clothing to avoid fines.

• Ian Kirby prepares the Change-room Chatterbox every month and he needs ammo – please send

him some.

• Please support Robbie Mc’s monthly Rump draw, generously funded by new sponsor Camp and Gas

– thanks Alec.

• Please dress appropriately in terms of the dress codes in place.

• Prize giving – this is a compulsory part of the day at Nomads. If you have no choice, please pay the

R50 and ensure that I hear from you personally – either before or after the game. Disappearing

without apologising is rude guys – please refrain from this practice – thanks.

Till next time.

Fellow Nomads… Another great day of golf and the Weather Gods were kind as well. It is always nice to have a bit of

cloud cover on a summers day in the Lowveld. Although some would say that come rain or shine Neil

Short and his four-ball were going to be sweating. As early as the first tee when the entire four-ball

were apparently 3 off the tee there was a comment from the waiting four-ball behind “Did you guys

come to play or to practice?” - and judging by the scores practice it was. Watch out for them all at KPL.

On a personal note I had the pleasure of playing with Allan “WP jou lekker ding” Doble, Bernard “the

Bird” Heritage and Chris “I’ll spray it you find it” Rogers. Not much good golf but great company. I

chipped like Tiger Woods—which two years ago was a good thing, but not so much anymore and I spoiled

a good round by getting out of bed. Once again it was “staan soos n pro, slaan soos ‘n ‘@#$&!”

My wife Mary was inducted as a lady Nomad on Sunday, and very proud of her I am, but its a matter of

time now before she finds out that the course does not have floodlights and that 18-hole playoffs are

not a regular thing. Do they play Jukskei at night?

Staffie was back to his normal self, hitting the ball a mile and winning the A division. Could it be due to

the fact that he is ‘’back on the nest’’ so to speak? We can only speculate.

As if golf is not hard enough and the trees are not enough of a problem, Roger Braithwaite parked his

cart right in front of the tee on the third hole. On the cart it is written ’stunt driver’. The only stunt I

saw was the battery going flat. I think Evil Knievel is having a chuckle there Roger. That will teach you

to warn my partner about my behaviour. Karma is a bitch they say.

Gerald Bullen set the bar quite high for future fines masters, I hope props don’t become compulsory.

Can you imagine if either of the naughty Gary’s won the matchbox. Yes that’s you Mr Botha and Mr

Angelos…...chaos would reign.

It was also great to see Carel Triegaardt again— he is a great character and if not playing lets hope he at

least puts in some more guest appearances’ during the year.

Finally, a guy gets home from his regular Saturday

golf game and his wife asks him “Why don’t you

play with Mike Smith anymore?” and he replied

“Would you play with someone who cheats, lies

about his score, swears like a trooper and has

nothing good to say about anybody?’’ his wife

looked at him and replied “Goodness of course

not” to which he replied “Neither does Mike!”

Keep swinging and see you at KPL

NOMADS AWAY TOURS CALENDAR 2015

I recently sent out an email indicating the dates of our Away Tours for 2015. There have been some enforced changes to those dates as a result of reasons beyond the control of the Nomads clubs—so herewith the new

dates

16—17 May SOUTHERN CAPE 30TH ANNIVERSARY— Neville Blum our Captain Elect for 2015/16 is unable to

attend this event

20th June GAUTENG 55TH ANNIVERSARY AT BRYANSTON COUNTRY CLUB - this one is not too far away and

already some members have indicated that they wish to attend.

17-19 July BORDER 30TH ANNIVERSARY AT FISH RIVER SUN - A fabulous venue and three Nomads have

indicated that they wish to attend

6—9 August BOTSWANA NATIONALS—Remember this one is a sprint—not a Marathon

08 August TSHENENI GOLF CHALLENGE—if you are not in Botswana be sure not to miss this tour. It’s a great venue with very pleasant accommodation available at the course. It is only 3kms frm the Mananga Border gate and you can even participate and make it back home on the same day—although it is much more fun if you are

able to stay over. Please support this Swaziland Challenge—we need at least 12 members.

29—30 August LES TROPHY AT HIGHLAND GATE—another very interesting and enjoyable venue. We

need a team of 20 Lowveld Nomads— please diarise this date and book soon.

22—25 October - SWAZI NATIONALS AT ROYAL SWAZI—great National Tournament with a great vibe.

6— 8 November WESTERN PROVINCE ANNIVERSARY AT MILNERTON GOLF COURSE, plus a National Meeting

It’s going to be a busy year—please check your diaries, tick the dates and let me know if you are keen to

participate in any of these events.

Multiknit reaches

50-year milestone!

Tel : +27 13 751 2376 | email [email protected]

Together with loyal and satisfied customers around the world, hundreds of Multiknit employees are celebrating

the company’s 50th year in business.

Originally based in Kwazulu Natal, Multiknit commenced trading in 1964 with the importation of hessian bags for the packaging of wattle extract and maize and in 1969 started producing its own synthetic knitted fabrics and produce bags. Multiknit has grown to be the market leader in the manufacture of these products in the southern

hemisphere. Through its international division, it exports to more than 65 countries worldwide.

Multiknit has grown remarkably in its 50 years, through product expansions and the acquisition of a number of

related businesses. The Multiknit Group comprises three marketing divisions, namely Knittex, Sakpro and Multiknit International, all of which are highly focused on the markets they serve. Their specialised approach has made it possible to

produce customised products to meet the precise specifications required by a variety of clients.

Multiknit believes in client loyalty, and for this reason it dedicates resources and expertise to the specific markets it serves. An ongoing research and development programme forms a major part of the operating philosophy, allowing it to stay abreast of the latest technology and techniques - and able to deliver innovative

needs-based solutions.

Its vast product range includes decorative and agricultural shade fabrics, as well as various produce bags. Other specialist products include recreational groundsheets, soil stabilization net, windbreak net, perimeter netting,

frost protection membranes and ropes and twines.

Multiknit now employs 625 highly skilled and motivated people, in its factories and its 10 countrywide distribution outlets. One of the company’s core strengths is the average service record of the senior management team, which exceeds 21 years! In addition, Multiknit has the most experienced technicians in the knitted synthetic fabrics industry, meticulously applying exacting step-by-step quality control programmes,

designed to ensure that every Multiknit product exceeds industry standards.

It’s no wonder Multiknit is…..

“More than a shade better than the rest”.
