Black Swan Target audience- Young women (18-30 years old) Appeal to audience- The main characters are all female

and the movie focuses on ballet. Release date- Black Swan premiered at the Venice

International Film Festival on September 1, 2010. It was released in select theaters in the U.S. starting December 3, 2010 and was released nationwide on December 17. Black Swan was released right before Oscar nominees were announced.

Other movies released on the same weekend- I Love You Phillip Morris, The Warrior’s Way, All Good Things.

Black Swan Promotion- Four international teaser posters were

created to gain excitement. Only one trailer was released for the movie. A promotional website was created as well as Twitter and Facebook pages. Black Swan was featured on USA Today and Hollywood Reporter.

Format- 2-D, filmed digitally, printed on film.

Shutter Island

Target audience- Males (25-40 years old) Appeal to audience- The main characters are middle aged

men and the movie falls under the thriller genre. Release date- Shutter Island was released on February 13,

2010 at the Berlin International Film Festival. It was released nationwide on February 19, 2010.

The film was originally scheduled to be released on October 3, 2009 just in time for the 2009-10 awards season. The studio postponed the release date because it hoped their other films, The Lovely Bones and Up in the Air, would be Oscar contenders and didn’t want to overspend in marketing its various offerings.

Shutter Island

Promotion- Only one trailer was released for the movie. A film website was created as well as a Facebook fan page. Shutter Island had three T.V. spots, one was aired during the Super Bowl. The movie was brought to the Harry Knowles’ Butt-Numb-a-Thon (fan geared screening event) to garner interest from audiences and help the movie be promoted by word of mouth.

Format- 2-D, filmed digitally, printed on film.

Sanitarium

Target audience- Young males (17- 30 years old) Appeal to audience- The movie is set in an asylum and expletives

and weapons are used. It is also a horror film. Release date- Sanitarium premiered on March 1, 2013 at the Miami

Film Festival and was released to theaters on October 18. Sanitarium was released to DVD on December 31, 2013.

Sanitarium was released in early March so that it could be screened at the Miami International Film Festival and gain attention.

Promotion- Sanitarium did not receive much promotion because of its small budget. Only one trailer was released through YouTube before showcasing at the festival.
