About the Promoted by Foundation For Excellence, Inc. (FFE USA) a tax exempt,Trust: publicly supported charitable organization based in Santa Clara, California, USA(www.ffe.org). Registered as a Public Charitable Trust in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Registered under u/s 12 A (a) of the IT Act, 1961. Registered under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976.
Mission: Bring about a transformation in the lives of academically bright and economically underprivileged students in India by enabling them to complete their higher education in India.
Program: Provide scholarships to students pursuing studies in professional courses in Engineering, Technology and Medicine.
Eligibility: Academic performance, family income and background.
Process: Volunteers (facilitators) and institutions, pre-registered with the Trust, identify eligible students in India and provide assistance in submitting scholarship applications to the Trust. All FFE scholars who have graduated are encouraged to fulfill their “pledge” to support the education of at least 2 brilliant and needy students by making financial contributions to the Trust.
Results: Since inception until 31 March 2013, 1805 students assisted. Rs.11,34,18,141 disbursed as scholarships.
Donations: Donations are accepted towards: (1) Corpus of the Trust; (2) General purposes of the Trust; (3) “Adopt A Scholar Program”, earmarked funds for scholarships to students designated by state, gender and course of study; and (4) Towards the Scholarship Program Donations are eligible for tax deduction u/s 80G of the IT Act. Rs.4,36,46,996 received as donations since inception to 31 March 2013 (excluding the grant from FFE Inc.,USA),with Rs.96,92,864 being contributions from FFE scholars.

The Trustees of Foundation For Excellence India Trust are pleased to present the highlights of the work of the Trust for the year ended 31 March 2013.
From the start of FY 2010-11, FFE India Trust, Bengaluru has been responsible for the implementation of the Foundation For Excellence Inc. (FFE), USA's Scholarship Program in India. The scope of the Trust's activities in India has expanded with a special impetus to gain visibility for the Trust in India, expand alumni outreach, and raise funds in India. FY 2012-13 saw an increased growth in the Trust's activities in these focus areas.
Scholarship Program
FFE India Trust awarded 1,924 scholarships amounting to Rs. 4, 55, 70,409 during FY 2012-13 as compared to 1,686 scholarships for an amount of Rs. 3, 87, 93,327 during FY 2011-12. FFE Inc. awarded a grant directly to the FCRA account of FFE India Trust for the third year. Of the 1,924 scholarships,
Details of scholarship disbursement to the 1,924 students by state and gender are detailed in Annexure 1.
Management of FFE India Trust
Two meetings of the Board of Trustees were held during the year financial year2012 -13; the first on 5th June 2012, and the second on 18th October 2012.
Activities and Outreach
A series of FFE Open House events were conducted in 8 cities during FY 2012-13 in order to bring together all FFE stakeholders- including students, alumni, facilitators, volunteers, individual and corporate donors, and community partners and to award the prestigious FFE Scholarships to deserving students. FFE Open House events were conducted in close partnership with alumni state chapters that were in operation from the previous FY. FFE Open House events were held in Dharwad, Karnataka on 26th August, 2012, in Hyderabad on 23rd September 2012, in Bengaluru on 30th September 2012, in Chennai on 4th November 2012, in Bhubaneshwar on 11th
1,472 scholarships for an amount of Rs. 3, 40, 19,493 were funded out of the grant provided by FFE Inc. USA; the remaining 4 5 2 s c h o l a r s h i p s a m o u n t i n g t o Rs.1,15,50,916 were funded out of donations raised by the Trust.
Of the 1,924 scholarships approved during FY 2012-13, 477 (inclusive of 382 Engineering and 95 Medical) were new, first time scholarships while 1,447 were renewal scholarships.

November 2012, in Kolkata on 27th January 2013 and culminating in Ahmedabad on 17th February 2013. FFE Founders, Dr. Prabhu and Mrs. Poonam Goel participated in the events in Bhubaneshwar and Chennai, and together with industry and community leaders who support FFE, had an opportunity to meet and interact with the larger FFE family. Eminent Guests of Honour who participated in FFE's events included Ms. Akila Krishnakumar, Former Chief Operating Officer and Country Head, India, Sungard Global Services, Mr. L R Natarajan, Chief Operating Officer, New Business, Titan Industries, and Mr. Aravind Sitaraman, President Inclusive Growth, Cisco Systems at the Bangalore Open House; Mr. Santhanam Viji, Joint Managing Director, Brakes India Ltd., in Chennai; Mrs. Vasudha Paranjpe, President, Students Welfare Association in Pune; Professor Chandra Akkihal, Educationist-Dharwad and Director, Marshall University, USA, in Dharwad; Professor Y Arun Kumar, Professor of Chemistry Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad at the Hyderabad Open House; Professor Soubata Ray, Professor-Strategic Management, IIM-Kolkata and Ms. Mahua Seth, Director-Cognizant Technology Solutions in Kolkata: and Professor Neharika Vohra, Professor-Organizational Behaviour, IIM-Ahmedabad at the Open House in Ahmedabad.
The crucial and responsible role of being a part of the FFE community, leveraging the community network of FFE stakeholders and contributing to the growth of FFE were key messages conveyed at each of these events. The role of alumni in building a sustainable Foundation through contributions to fulfill the pledge of support undertaken by each scholarship recipient was emphasized and alumni encouraged to stay connected with FFE. At least 1000 individuals whose lives had been touched by FFE had interacted with FFE Trustees during the course of FY 2012-13. FFE alumni whose contributions were noteworthy were honoured at these events, including an award of a Certificate of Excellence to celebrate their successes. The Alumni Chapters in 5 states (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat and West Bengal) have begun to promote FFE's mission through local activities, with the Karnataka Alumni Chapter being the most active during FY 2012-13.
The FFE Scholars' Association web portal, sa.ffe org continues to promote and publicize FFE's nationwide activities. It also serves an important role for FFE alumni to network socially and professionally, to collaborate on projects, to seek mentorship from experienced professionals and to contribute to FFE's growth.
Donations to the Trust
The Trust received a grant of Rs. 3,67,00,250 from FFE USA in FY 2012-13. In addition,the Trust raised donations amounting to Rs. 1,52,95,894 as compared to Rs. 1,21,26,589 in FY 2011-12. This included donations of Rs. 25,79,999 from 260 scholars as compared to Rs. 23,03,516 from 285 FFE Scholars during FY 2011-12; of these, 88 alumni were new donors to the Trust. Corporate donations included contributions from Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Limited, Bangalore; from Indication Instruments Ltd, Faridabad; from Cognizant Technology Solutions India Private Limited, from Bill Forge Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore; from Applied Solar Technologies, NOIDA and from Ashok Leyland, Chennai. Donations included Rs. 3,97,425 to the Corpus of the Trust, Rs. 7,49,069 to the General Fund, Rs. 25,59,830 to the Scholarship Fund and Rs. 1,15,89,570 to the “Adopt A Scholar” Program.

Accounts
The accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 March 2013 as audited by Shri G S Prakash, Chartered Accountant, are appended.
Excluding donations of Rs.3,97,425 to the Corpus, the Trust earned income of Rs. 5,27,44,934 during the year. Of this amount, remittances from FFE, USA accounted forRs.3,67,00,250, donations to the General Fund and the Scholarship Program accounted for Rs.1,48,98,469 and interest on investments and bank deposits for Rs.11,46,215. The Trust disbursed Rs.4,55,70,409 on scholarships and incurred Rs.51,04,539 as administrative expenses (excluding depreciation of Rs.55,303 ) with an excess of income over expenditure of Rs.20,69,986.

1) The Trust has been registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976 vide Registration Number 094421348.
2) The Trust has opened an FCRA Bank Account and all the foreign remittances are credited to this account.
3) During the current financial year, the Trust has received foreign Donations of `3,71,71,471.83/- from USA, comprising of remittances of 3,67,00,250/- from Foundation For Excellence Inc., USA and donations amounting to `3,70,827.83/- from Give India Foundation, USA and `1,00,394/- from CAF India. The Trust has also received Rupee Donations amounting to ̀ 1,44,27,247.46/- including ̀ 49,92,924.46/- from Give India.
4) During the year, the Total Scholarship Amount awarded was `4,55,70,409/- comprising of ̀ 3,40,19,493/- from the FCRA Account and ̀ 1,15,50,916/- from the Non-FCRA account.
5) Depreciation is calculated as per rates prescribed by Income-Tax Rules
6) It is the policy of the Assessee to prepare his Financial Statements on cash receipts and disbursements basis. On this basis, revenue and related assets are recognised when received rather than when earned and expenses are recognised when paid rather than when the obligation is incurred.
7) The Assessee does not have any liability towards Gratuity.
8) The Fixed Assets are disclosed at actual cost less depreciation.
9) Since the Assessee follows Cash System of accounting, revenue is recognised on receipt of income.
