PEF/BEARS CLUB FEATURESPEF SPOTLIGHT

Russ MeadeQ: Tell us a little about yourself? A: I graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. I also played football for the Bears. I served eight years in the United States Marine Corps and was deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, in 2005. I am the founder and Chief Military Advisor for Covert Threads here in Hickory, N.C. I have worked for Piedmont Vending in Conover, N.C., for 21 years where I’m Vice President of Sales. In addition, I’m a Certified Personal Trainer at Body Dimensions located in downtown Hick-ory, N.C. I have three children: Jake (21), Lily (20) and Anna (18) and two grandchildren. In my spare time, I enjoy bow hunting, doing obstacle races and attending the University of Kentucky basketball games!

Q: What is your most memorable Lenoir-Rhyne athletic memory? A: My first athletic memory was playing with the best running back I’ve ever played with or against in Leonard Davis. Blocking for him and watching him run the ball was a blessing and a treat! My second memory was last year watching our Bears lose their first game and then recover to make it all the way to the National Championship Game. Made me even more proud to be a Bear!

Q: What led you to get involved in the Piedmont Educational Foundation? A: I have enjoyed being a PEF member because it makes me feel like I am giving back to our school and our football team. Just like the support I received when I was playing between the bricks.

Q: What would you say to a prospective donor to PEF? A: I bring in current Lenoir-Rhyne athletes to do internships at my gym and enjoy supporting them further through the PEF/Bears Club. Being a Bear is something to be proud of and supporting our “small family” by contributing to the Piedmont Educational Foundation goes a long way in helping these young men and women become leaders of tomorrow.
