From My Perspective

Reflections through a Lens of Faith from Pastor Jen

“A Letter”

When I took leave of my congregation in Virginia last August, I received a

number of cards and notes wishing me well. In the midst of packing, I stuffed

most of them in a bag to read when I arrived in Massachusetts. About a week

later, I sat at the kitchen table and began to read…

There was one particular note which caught my attention. The first reason is

that it was written by a teenager – and it was in cursive – and it was four pages

long! The second reason I will remember this note for a long while is because of

what it said.

The teen said that over the past number of months, he had realized he was gay. He hadn’t told anyone outside his

family yet, but he wanted to let me know that he was grateful that when he fully came out, he knew he would be

accepted by the church he had attended all of his life – the community among which he had been baptized and

confirmed, took part in youth group and served as a youth delegate on council. He had no doubts that God accepted

him for who he was… but it was a relief for him to know without doubt that his church would too.

June is Pride month. It started as an act of defiance after police raids at the Stonewall Inn in June of 1969. It continues

because there are still places where it is not safe to be openly gay – and many of those places (tragically) are churches.

You are God’s beloved. Rejoice and be glad! And may the church rejoice with you.

In Christ,

Pastor Jen

"Embracing Christ"

Discipleship at FAITH

Seeing and experiencing the

temptations that abound, we center

ourselves on Jesus Christ through our

worship and study.

Recognizing our blessings, and that

we are not self-made, we name

the name of God, giving thanks in

daily life.

Being blessed by God, we seek to be

a blessing unto others by giving of

ourselves to our church and to our

community.

Team Faith Lutheran Church - Andover

Calumet “Walk the Walk 2021” Walk

Going all this Summer!!!

Tom Schauer and Lisa Hodge are organizing a Faith

Lutheran Church - Andover Team, for Calumet's “Walk

the Walk 2021” walk this summer.

If you are interested in joining, please email Tom.

The registration fee of $25.00 goes to Calumet. Calumet

does a great job of providing spiritual opportunities to all

people regardless of their financial situation.

The walk goes from July to September and every week, you

report your miles walked. You can either walk on your own at

home or invite people to walk with you. Plus, we might even

arrange some type of get-togethers for group walks (maybe

around Lake Quannapowitt?). We might even get our own

Faith team T-shirts! I sense there might be bragging rights

for the highest miles walked and maybe a Brownie Ice Cream

Sundae party at the church afterward.

This is all for a great cause!!

Fire FLY

Pool Party and End of the Year Cook-Out at the Rices’

Sunday, June 13th at 5:30 PM!!!

Dawn and Ian Rice have graciously agreed to open up their

home (and the backyard pool) for us to have an End of the

Year Cook-out for The Fire Fly Group next Sunday, June 13th

at 5:30 PM. The church will provide the hamburgers and

hotdogs and buns and condiments and stuff. The Rices will

provide a grill. We are just asking that people bring either a

side dish or dessert to share. If you think you are going to join

us, just email Tom let us know what you might bring. And no

worries if you want to just bring yourself! That is fine too!!! I

would also bring your bathing suit and towel as they have a

pool!!! And there may be a Cannon Ball contest!!! Probably

not!!! But you can hope, right!!!

This is going to be really awesome! and I am so thankful the

Rices want to host this great event! Let’s hope the weather is

fine and we get a really good group there. The Rices live in

Methuen and I will send out the exact address as we get

closer. If anyone has any questions, let me know. You are all

awesome! Take care!!! And talk to you soon!!! You all rock!!!

SUPER FLY—High School Group

It is going to be awesome!

Summer Worship Schedule

June 20 - September 12

Outdoor Service: 8:30 AM

Online Zoom Service: 10:00 AM

Faith moves to a summer worship schedule with two services beginning June 20. In order to take advantage of cooler temperatures and protect the electronics which can be damaged in the sun, the outdoor service will be earlier at 8:30 AM and the online Zoom service will be at 10:00 AM.

Introducing Newcomers

This Sunday we welcome newcomers to Faith! We welcome Aadu and Morgan Pirn, Steven and Heather McGrath (daughters Tessa and Noelle), Johanne Clark, Robin Popp, Rebecca Zammuto, Jon and Virginia Anderson, Brittany and Mark Leonard (daughters Chloe and Avery), and Jason and Fallon Durant (daughter Winter).

Brittany Leonard grew up going to Faith and is very excited to start bringing her own family. Mark is a mechanical engineer and Brittany works in advertising sales. They love going to Kennebunkport, Maine in the summer.

Robin Popp lives in Amesbury and has 2 adult children, Zach and Madeline Severance. She is a philanthropy consultant to non-profit organizations. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA but raised in New Hampshire and her Lutheran roots go back centuries to Germany!

Stephen and Heather McGrath are both transplants to the state of MA with Heather originally from Florida and Stephen hailing from Wisconsin. Each attended their state university (UF and UW) for undergraduate and graduate school and are big college sports fans, cheering on the Gators and Badgers. They met while both working in MA in 2013 and married in fall of 2016 with their oldest daughter, Tessa, arriving a couple years later and their youngest, Noelle, born at the start of this crazy pandemic. Heather and Stephen love to travel and are looking forward to one day being able to take their daughters on worldwide adventures, but for now are just trying to survive life with a toddler and 1 year old!

Johanne Clark is familiar to many as Lisa-Beth Yanicke's mother! Aadu and Morgan Pirn met playing trombone in the band at Pitt and were married last fall. We've appreciated Rebecca Zammuto who has shared her vocal talents with us in Faith's praise band! Jason Durant also grew up at Faith and he and his wife Fallon welcomed a newborn daughter, Winter to the family last month. We will include a special prayer of blessing for Winter at this Sunday's 11:00 AM service. Jon and Virginia Anderson live in Andover and have been regulars with the Saturday morning meditation group.
