Whole School News TerraCycle and Colgate® Recycling Program
We are participating in the Terracycle dental
hygiene waste recycling program again. Please start
bringing in your waste (and your neighbours and your
family's waste) and collect for our fundraising.
TerraCycle and Colgate® have partnered to create a
free recycling program for oral care product
packaging as well as a fundraising opportunity for
participants.
Forster Public School are participating! Simply
collect your used oral care waste (any brand is
accepted), bring to school and we’ll ship to
TerraCycle to be recycled. TerraCycle points can be
redeemed for a payment of $0.02 per unit with the
money raised coming back to the school.
What can we recycle? All brands of old
toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and caps, floss
containers and their outer packaging.
Why? Every year in Australia and New Zealand, over
30 million toothbrushes and 90 million toothpaste
tubes are thrown away.
Thank you for your participation – and please drop
your items to the collection box in the front
office.
Forster Public School’s SRC 2019
This week our classes have been busy voting for their
class representative on the K-6 SRC. We are pleased
to announce that we will be having an induction
ceremony on Thursday 21 February at 10am in the
school hall. Invitations will be sent home to parents
of the SRC and House Captain students inviting them
to attend the assembly where the will have the
opportunity to pin the SRC and House Captain badge
onto their child and share this special moment with
them. A morning tea will follow for these students
and their parents.

Support Unit Welcome back. The Support Unit welcomes all our
new families and look forward to a fun and productive
term
3-6/5 and K-6/6 have been spending the last week
perfecting the PBL focus of walking in two straight
lines. Starting at the assembly lines, we have been
walking together and focusing on respecting the
Page 3 of 9
learning that is happening around the school by
walking quietly and safely.
3-6/5 have begun some gardening lessons with the
garden teacher Ellen and Trish. With the recent
water restrictions that have been put into place, the
extra hands to help with the watering were greatly
appreciated. Seth, Noah and Peta enjoyed helping to
keep our leafy greens watered.

Early Stage 1 It is an exciting time of year. We are getting to know
each other, learning about being safe, showing
respect and doing our best work. Students are
settling in well. A confident wave and a big smile help
these young students to separate happily. Please
label all belongings, so that they can be returned.
All students need to wear their hats at school to
keep sun safe and they need to stay hydrated. We
are looking forward to seeing you all at Meet the
Teacher Night next week.
Some great Year 6 friends helped us settled in.

and sip program. Please remember to pack a piece of
fruit or some vegetables for fruit time. We look

Stage 3 Stage 3 have had a fantastic beginning to the year.
The classes are settled and working well and there is
a lot of great learning happening. We had our first
assembly last Friday and it was great to see so many
children receiving awards.
We have had so many new students in Stage 3 and
they have all settled in beautifully. They all seem to
have made lots of new friends. Welcome to Forster
Public School!
The School Captains and School Leaders have been
busy as they learn their new jobs. They did a
fantastic job with the Kindergarten students helping
them to settle in during their first week. Make sure
you read the first report written by our School
Captains, Sophie and Connor.
Meet the Teacher
Meet the Teacher Night is on next Thursday and we
would love to see as many of you as possible. It's
important to make the connection between home and
school early in the year, so we can offer the best
support for your child. If we work together in
partnership, your child will experience much more
success at school, so please make an effort to come.
Stage 3 Sport
The Swimming Carnival was a wonderful day with
students from Stage 3 attending in great numbers
and entering many races. We had some amazing
results and quite a few Stage 3 children will be off
to Zone.
Stage 3 Sport now runs on a Friday and it will consist
of rotating sports groups. Students have the option
of learning game skills, training for the Athletics
Carnival or doing their PSSA training in Touch
Football and Netball. Tryouts are beginning for many
Stage 3 PSSA sports, including tennis, netball and
touch football, so listen out for the announcements
and have a go!
School Captains' Message
As Captains, we are looking forward to representing
Forster Public School in 2019. Our first job was to
look after the new kindergarten students and
welcome their parents to our school. We enjoyed it
and made lots of new friends. We have learnt a lot
so far, such as tying a Windsor Knot in a tie and being
a good role model. We are very excited for the
upcoming year and the Leadership Training at Club
Forster.

Sport Swimming Carnival
What a wonderful start to sport this year! We had
nearly 200 swimmers attend our School Swimming
Carnival and they were full of enthusiasm, respect
and good ol’ school spirit. The calibre of athleticism
was excellent, with 27 athletes qualifying for the
Zone Swimming Carnival to be held at the Taree
Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 20 February, 2019.
Family and friends are encourage to attend and
support our students. Well done to everyone!

with Tennis trials complete, Buderus 7’ Gala day set
up for early March, Soccer interest collected,
Cricket soon to start, Cross-Country later this term,
and of course the Athletics Carnival to happen mid-

Library News Hello from our library!! Welcome back everyone who
was with us last year, and for those who are new,
especially our amazing kindergarten people, welcome
to Forster Public School!
We are very busy and very secretive in the library at
the moment as our renovations are well under way.
We have had a delivery of furniture, but
unfortunately have had a delay in our shelving, which
means we will be able to get our classes back into the
library over the next couple of weeks, but will be
unable to borrow until we can get our books out of
storage and onto the brand new shelves.
This year we have decided to extend our borrowing
limits. Our Kindergarten students will begin learning
to borrow with 1 book each week, and this will be
extended to 2 books later in the year. Year 1 and 2
can borrow up to 4 books at a time for a maximum of
2 weeks at a time. Year 3 and 4 can borrow up to 6
books for a maximum of 3 weeks at a time. Year 5
and 6 can borrow up to 8 books for a maximum of 4
weeks at a time. If any student has an overdue book,
they will not be allowed to borrow any more books
until the overdue book is returned or replaced.
Notes will go out to classes when our borrowing is set
to resume. We are hoping at this stage that
borrowing will commence in week 6.
Lunchtime activities are expected to start next
week, with the following activities available to
students at 2nd half lunch Mondays to Thursdays:
Monday – Board games, card games, dominoes.
Tuesday – Movies (all G rated)
Wednesday – Mindful Colouring
Thursday – Craft
Lunchtime activites will also include quiet reading or
drawing each day.
Fridays will be open to students from our Support
Unit to enjoy the library.
We look forward to welcoming everyone in to view
our amazing new library set up when it is complete.
Until then, as always…
Happy Reading
Miss Eggins and the Library Team
P & C News Our Colour Event last year raised $4,135 which is a
fantastic effort for our first event. A huge thank
you to the students that raised this money. Thank
you to the teachers and parents who helped out on
the day. We look forward to our next Colour Event
when everyone can help with fundraising to enable us
to give more money to help support the school.
This week we have donated $2,000 to the
Kitchen/Garden program.
New wide brim hats can now be purchased at the
Uniform Shop for $20 each. The Uniform Shop is
open Tuesday and Thursday 8.30am to 9.30am. You
can always pick up an order form at the front office.
We have had a small price increase from 2019 with
our Microfibre Jackets. These jackets now need to
be specially made. We did not want to change the
uniform and create extra expense for parents.
Microfibre Jackets will be increased from $37.00 to
$40.00, as of January 2019.
Thanks
