Dear People of God, Last winter’s Wednesday evening offering at St. Pat’s was focused on Apologetics. The term is a classical identifier for the more practical work of defending the faith. (You can find a lot of practical information on Apologetics by using your Formed app; unlike Kindle, Netflix, Hulu and so many others that proclaim “Get the App for FREE,” Formed includes ALL of its content for free as well as hundreds of resources for every taste and inter- est). I have written a few letters on how practical ne- cessity led to logical/ liturgical actions at Mass; in many ways Apologetics invites us to learn the practicalities to explain the actions. The Church’s praxis (what we do to live what we believe) in many ways replicates and makes holy ordinary human nature and what people do ordinari- ly. This is easy to see if we pay attention to what we or others are doing. For example, some accuse us of “worshipping” the saints and scorn our respect for relics despite the common hobby of collecting memorabilia (“relics”) of famous political and sports figures. Not sur- prisingly, such critics derogate our construction of shrines and our pilgrimages or journeys to them but think nothing of visiting the Vietnam Wall and honoring those whose names are inscribed there. We Catholics honor the he- roes of our own past, many of whom sacrificed their lives just as did the men and women commemorated on the Wall! We often erect shrines to honor a particular saint. There are two in St. Pat’s: St. Florian, patron saint of firefighters, and St. Michael, patron of police. One in the garden honors St. Brigid, secondary patron of Ire- land. There are two in the yard at Immaculate Concep- tion, both drawing attention to Mary whom we honor as a mother, a patron, and a disciple. Shrines aren’t unique to the Church; they are a human institution as can be demonstrated by a trip to Oklahoma City where no one would dispute that the Memorial Garden is a shrine. Similarly, consider all the MLB, NFL and NBA greats who are “enshrined” in this or that Hall of Fame. Here’s one you may want to go see, especially if you are in the area - a kind of duplication of what we Catholics do with the Stations of the Cross. Go to Green Bay and you can follow the “stations” of the formation of the only publicly held NFL franchise. There’s even a sta- tion in the Catholic church where Vince Lombardi attend- ed daily Mass and it’s a popular secular tourist attrac- tion! Dear People of God,

Last winter’s Wednesday evening offering at St. Pat’s was focused on Apologetics. The term is a classical identifier for the more practical work of defending the faith. (You can find a lot of practical information on Apologetics

by using your Formed app; unlike Kindle, Netflix, Hulu and so many others that proclaim “Get the App for FREE,” Formed includes ALL of its content for free as well as hundreds of resources for every taste and inter-est). I have written a few letters on how practical ne-cessity led to logical/ liturgical actions at Mass; in many ways Apologetics invites us to learn the practicalities to explain the actions. The Church’s praxis (what we do to live what we believe) in many ways replicates and makes holy ordinary human nature and what people do ordinari-ly.

This is easy to see if we pay attention to what we or others are doing. For example, some accuse us of “worshipping” the saints and scorn our respect for relics despite the common hobby of collecting memorabilia (“relics”) of famous political and sports figures. Not sur-prisingly, such critics derogate our construction of shrines and our pilgrimages or journeys to them but think nothing of visiting the Vietnam Wall and honoring those whose names are inscribed there. We Catholics honor the he-roes of our own past, many of whom sacrificed their lives just as did the men and women commemorated on the Wall!

We often erect shrines to honor a particular saint. There are two in St. Pat’s: St. Florian, patron saint of firefighters, and St. Michael, patron of police. One in the garden honors St. Brigid, secondary patron of Ire-land. There are two in the yard at Immaculate Concep-tion, both drawing attention to Mary whom we honor as a mother, a patron, and a disciple. There’s even a sta-tion in the Catholic church where Vince Lombardi attend-ed daily Mass and it’s a popular secular tourist attrac-tion! Watch humanity and study history: you’ll see the same practices and kinds of thing we use in the practice of our faith. Fr. Chris

The Celebration of Sacraments

Infant Baptism: The Sacrament of Baptism is regularly celebrated on Sunday during or after the Eucharistic Liturgy. Registered parishioners are asked to arrange for the Baptismal Preparation Class and the Liturgical Celebration by calling the Parish Office.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: RCIA is the process of growing in your faith and love of God. Weekly gather-ings take place from September until Easter. If you are interested in learning about Catholicism and joining us please call Deacon Tom at the rectory. Penance: The Sacrament of Penance is celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at IC, 9:30 a.m. at HSP and 10:30 a.m. IC every Sunday or by appointment.

Matrimony: Anyone planning to be married must contact the parish at least six months in advance. The exact date and time of your wedding should not be determined until after consultation with a priest or deacon. If either party has previously been civilly or religiously married, the Presider is not permitted to set a date for the wedding without resolving the previous marriage.

Pastoral Care of the Sick: When a parishioner is admitted to the hospital, nursing home, or confined to home because of age or infirmity, please call the Parish Office. Parishioners are ready to visit and to bring Holy Communion. When one is seriously ill, the healing Presence of the Lord should be requested in the Sacrament of the Sick.

In the event that you are in need of a priest or deacon and there is no one in the office: Please try the emergency number at 419-243-6031 or call Deacon Tom on his cell phone at 419-984-0082 and leave a message with your phone number and he will return your call as soon as possible.

LITURGICAL MUSIC FOR TODAY’S MASS

We will be distributing music sheets each week!

Liturgical Ministry Update With the changes required by the Diocese of Toledo, the role of Liturgical Ministers will be different at our Masses for a while. Eucharistic Ministers will not be utilized as Communion will only be the Body of Christ and distributed by the priest and deacon. We will not have a choir, there will be no aco-lytes and no hospitality after Mass. There are still ways to answer God’s call to ministry, though. Please consider trying a new role at Mass. Once we have the names of the people willing to participate, a new schedule will be created and mailed. Look forward to seeing you! Msgr. Chris Liturgical Ministers during COVID-19 Lector – We still need proclaimers of the Word at both the 8 a.m. Mass and 10 a.m. Mass on Sunday mornings. We will happily train anyone interested in serving as lectors who have not read at Mass before. What to know: Lectors must be age 65 or younger to be on the altar, or willing to sign a waiver Lectors may read both readings and the stanzas of the psalm If there are two lectors for Mass, there will be six feet of separation between the seats for proper social distancing Lectors will receive Holy Communion on the altar Ushers – We need ushers to help dismiss parishioners at the end of Mass to receive Holy Communion before exiting the church. We will provide train-ing for anyone new to the role of usher at HSP. What to know: All ushers must wear masks How to sign up – Call Sherri in the Parish Office at 419.243.6452, or talk to Pat Thompson, Mary Kay McPartlin or Martha Farrell after Mass

The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit help us to change the things to the way they should be

and to develop our life as a Catholic WISDOM Let us judge things in the way that God does. UNDERSTANDING The gift that helps us to under-stand all that God has told us. COUNSEL This gift helps us to know what to do especially when faced with really difficult situations. FORTITUDE This gives us the strength to do what is right no matter how hard. KNOWLEDGE This gift lets us see the world as it really is. PIETY This gift gives us the power to love God and our neighbor as we should. FEAR OF THE LORD This gift of the Holy Spirit gives us the desire not to offend God, as well as the certainty that God will supply us the grace that we need in order to keep from offending Him.

Solemnity of the Most Solemnity of the Most Solemnity of the Most Solemnity of the Most

Holy TrinityHoly TrinityHoly TrinityHoly Trinity

As the Liturgical Year returns to the “Season of the Year” or “Ordinary Time,” the pattern does not fall completely into place. The first few Sundays are special solemnities of Our Lord, so there will not be the green vestments and a numbered Sun-day but white vestments and the highest celebration. Although the mystery of the Holy Trinity can never be fully understood by man, we must believe as the fun-damental doctrine of our faith that there is only one God in Whom there are three divine Persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. All three Persons is true God; there is only one God, not three gods, He is eternal, almighty, omniscient and incomprehensible. (Catholicculture.org)
