Pilot overview
• Started 13th March 2008– 1st session (face to face)
• Project & Pilot framework• Pilot introduction• Using Moodle and other technical issues• Teachers group set up
• Ended 16th June 2008• 3 Tutors & 2 Technical assistants • Enrolled teachers: 22• Finished the pilot: 18• Accreditated course at a national level (2 units)
Tutors tasks
• Build a pilot journal (for Tutors eyes only)• In a weekly basis
– Portuguese task translation and related deadlines• Individual & Group tasks• Individual Portfolio component
• Give feedback to teachers interactions• Monitor group activities and interactions• Assure prior deadline task submission by all groups• Assure portfolio submission at the end of Pilot
Technical assistants tasks
• Technical helpdesk with– Moodle & Pilot tools and contents
• Reported technical problems– Virus warning in a Word document
• In fact it was a problem with some anti-virus programs!!!– Opening PowerPoint session files
• In some Operating Systems/Browsers combo– Opening some linked files in PowerPoint
• Detected solely in one session files– Portfolio submission issues
• An step-by-step guide was produced
Tutor on-going reflections and actions
• Due to some work overload...– Reduction in the number of sessions and proposed tasks
• Session 6 Reflection week• Session 7 Not used in pilot• Session 8 Not used in pilot• Session 9 Some tasks not used in pilot
– Some individual tasks were transformed in group tasks
• Group leader seems to have an important Role in the group dynamics tutors should pay attention to this issue
• The importance of feedback at different levels– Content related– Personal issues– Reinforcing team building within groups
Tutor on-going reflections and actions
• As some key concepts issues arouse – Some further explanation was needed Elaboration of additional
contents that complement the ones given
• Lack of more examples from a “science” perspective
• On-going reflection…– further developments as we’ll gather and analyze more data from
Moodle Logs, Moodle interactions, questionnaires results,
