BOOT, REBOOT AND HOW TO SHUT DOWN COMPUTER CORRECTLY

BOOTING PROCESS

There are two main types of booting also know as starting the machine.

They are :

Turning On / Cold Booting

Restarting / Warm Booting

BOOTING DEFINITION

Turning On / Cold Booting: The process of starting the machine from cold state or off state. (i.e. from socket)

Restarting / Warm Booting: This process of resets the system unit after it has been in operation for sometimes.

TURNING ON BY THE NUMBERS

Switch on main power.

Switch on the MONITOR .

Wait for the Monitor's Indicator to light up either green or amber.

Switch on the peripherals (eg. Printer; if any).

Switch on the SYSTEM UNIT.

Wait for the machine to startup

WHAT IF . . .

You get no light for either the Monitor or System Unit?

Check the power cord and ensure it is plugged in and turned on.

What if the machine takes a long time to turn on?

Please try and be patient it may take several minutes to turn on.

When in doubt ask for help!

RE-STARTING ~
PREFERRED METHOD

Exit All Programs and Close All Windows. (So The Task Bar Is Empty)

Single Left Click (SLC) on START MENU.

SLC on TURN OFF COMPUTER.

SLC on RESTART.

Wait for the machine to restart.

RE-STARTING ~
ALTERNATIVE METHOD

It involves one step two times in rapid succession

Press the Ctrl + Al t + Del keys simultaneously.


This practice is not permitted in the APSEC ICT Laboratory and any student caught performing this action will be punished.

BY THE NUMBERS

Exit All Programs and Close All Windows.

Single Left Click (SLC) on START MENU.

SLC on TURN OFF COMPUTER.

SLC on TURN OFF.

Wait for the monitor to read,
It Is Now Safe To Turn Off Your Computer.

Switch off the System Unit.

Switch peripherals off.

Switch off the Monitor.

Turn off the main power.
