Valentine’s Day Flowers!

Residents and Property Owners in the Village of St. Paris,

Soon you will be asked to vote on a property tax in the amount of 4 mills for a period of five years to rebuild and maintain our streets. That infrastructure has been an ongoing dilemma in our village and we are now at the threshold of fixing that problem.

This 4 mill levy will demonstrate to the state of Ohio our intent to better our infrastructure, and we will have a company on hand to assist in securing all grants that are available to us, along with zero in-terest loans. No matter the outcome of grants and/or zero interest loans that we may obtain, with the passing of this 4 mill levy on property, we will start the process of repairing all streets in our village.

Please take into account that this will not be a one street per year process. Our objective is that all street rebuilding and resurfacing will be done in 24 months after the passing and receiving of the 4 mill levy on property.

If, as residents of our village, we truly do care about our infrastructure, then the time is at hand to be a part of the process and make it happen.

HOW’S YOUR HEART DOIN’? - Quick, make a fist and look at it. Go ahead, look at it. In doing so, you now have a good idea of just how big your heart is in size. Now, compare the size of your fist to the total size of the rest of your body. Amazing, isn’t it!! The fact that this particular organ starts beating before you’ve even entered this world and

does not stop until you leave this world, to me, is beyond comprehension. Unless you stop and actually think about, the heart keeps pumping 24/7/365. Wow!

If you’re interested, here are a few (I think fun) facts to ponder. There are approxi-mately 60,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body. Many of them are quite large as evidenced by them popping out on your arms or maybe across your forehead when under stress or exercising. The other side of that coin is that many of these vessels, called capillaries, are very, very small: the majority of them much less than the width of a human hair. I don’t intend to be clin-ical here, but in order to see some of these said vessels, you would need a microscope. And just think, the heart keeps pumping the blood through them with, hopefully, the greatest of ease.

As a comparison, the distance at the equa-tor, is approximately 25,000 miles in di-ameter. One could assume then that the blood vessels in one adult human body, if laid end to end, would wrap more than twice around the earth. It ’s unbelievable that one tiny drop of blood, a scant por-tion of the nearly 1 and 1/2 gallons in the

average adult, can travel 60,000 miles and through the smallest of corridors. And what keeps moving the blood through them? Yes, the heart.

Another fun fact: If the average person lives to be 70 years old, the number of heartbeats, over the course of their life-time, would exceed 3 BILLION beats. If you break that down it comes out to over 42 MILLION beats per year, give or take a few hundred or so. Mind blowing for sure.

As you may know, because of Valentine’s day, February is National Heart Month. It ’s the month when the person closest to you, secret or not, gets the heart-shaped box of chocolate goodies, perhaps a doz-en roses, a few balloons, or even a giant stuffed animal to cuddle with. It ’s also the month that one should stop and consider that the “LUB-DUP” feeling in their chest is what gets them through every day, be it a good one or a bad one. As quoted by the wizard in the Wizard of OZ, “Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable”. Happy Valentine’s day
