Force 5 is designed for use in harbours, docks and estuaries to respond to general spills, such as drainage from factories and otheroutlets, ships slops and general pollution from fish oils, lubricating oils, diesel fuels etc, which occur in the docks and harbours. Force 5is also equipped to respond to larger oil spills in docks and harbours, recovering in excess o f 20 tonnes.

Primary Equipment: E-Series Mop Skimmer SystemBased on the highly successful E-Series system an E-900 mopskimmer is fitted to a catamaran work boat. Can be used with orwithout booms to corral the oil. The E-900 is stored above a hingedtrap door which is roped to the safety railing. When the mop isdeployed onto the water surface the guide rollers are set intoposition using a lever.

Primary Equipment: OM-Series Mop Skimmer SystemAn OM12 (Ocean Mop) skimming module is deployed from the sideof the vessel via an onboard crane to collect the oil on the watersurface. Used in conjunction with booms, this is a vertically deployed‘multi-mop’ skimmer system. It is self-contained with a metal storagecontainer for storing skimmer heads, an oil transfer pump, a deiseldriven power pack an operator console and all umbilicals - includinghydraulic hoses and oil transfer hoses and clips.

Force 5 Catamaran

Secondary Equipment

BoomsBooms can be stored on deck as free standing rolls or onpowered boom reels. On a catamaran vessel retractable boomarms are fitted at each bow to increase the encounter rate. Theseconsist of a ridged tubular arm which at its outward end supportsa length of flexible floating boom, which deflects oil to the hulltunnel and the recovery equipment. This allows the vessel tooperate at the most efficient speed for recovery purposes and yetprovide a satisfactory oil encounter rate.

Deck CraneA folding hydraulic deck crane can be built into the vessel with alifting capacity of 2500kg at a radius of 4.5m. This is sufficient forthe vessel to service itself if no shore facilities are available. Thecrane would be supplied with hydraulic power from a main enginedriven pump. The crane is an integral part of the Force 5 vessel.

Flexible Floating Storage Tanks‘Flexitanks’ towed floating storage tanks enable a recovery vesselto operate independently for long periods by allowing a number ofthese Flexitanks to be stowed on deck and then floated and filledas required, they are then buoyed off when full for collection at alater time. They are available in a variety of sizes but the mostpractical and cost effective for this size of vessel are the 5, 9, and12.5 cubic metre tanks. As well as flexible storage tanks thecatamaran hulls can provide built in tanks to store up to 8 cubicmetres of on board storage in each hull. This feature is ideal whenclearing smaller spills.

Dispersant Spray EquipmentProvision is made in the design of the vessel for fitting socketssuitable for locating removable spray booms. These spray boomsare equipped with wide angle, controlled droplet size, spraynozzles and they can be of alternate lengths to give a swathewidth of either 18m or 27m. The pump set is self-contained with itsown drive motor and is arranged to dispense either straightdispersant or a sea water diluted concentrate. The dispersant willbe stored in standard 200 litre drums on deck or in flexible storagetanks.
