FROM THE PRINCIPAL…..

URGENT REMINDER Last week I mentioned the survey that is currently open regarding access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) devices for students at school. It is very important that we get parent and carer opinions on this and we urge you to complete the survey even if you have not taken part in the Making IT Happen program.

The more responses we receive the more informed we will be when it comes to deciding our best way forward in this area. Over the past week we have had only 17 responses. The survey should only take 5-10 minutes to complete and it is accessible from our school website and our Facebook page. The survey can be completed on computer, tablet or smartphone.

To access the survey from the website, go to www.forbesnth-p.schools.nsw.gov.au and click on the news article “Information Technology Survey”. The link is in the article.

To access via Facebook, go to www.facebook.com/ForbesNorthPublicSchool and click on the link that has been re-posted today.

Please note, the survey closes at 4:00pm on Friday 13th September.

This survey is separate to the Partners in Learning survey mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter.

Have a great week! Steve McAlister Principal

Year 6 Cake Stall

Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum Throughout this term, our school will be implementing the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum with students across K-6. The curriculum is based on principles of best practice in child safety education and centres around three key messages: Recognise, React and Report. Through a series of lessons, students will learn how to recognise, react and report when they are unsafe or find themselves in situations that can have a significant detrimental effect on their physical, psychological or emotional wellbeing. For the remainder of the term all students will be learning about private body parts and body ownership. The lessons will introduce a range of ideas, all delivered in a way that’s fully age-appropriate. These include:

• "Appropriate" and "inappropriate" touching • Your child’s right to say no to things that make them feel upset or uncomfortable • Naming parts of the body • Who your child can turn to if they ever feel upset or worried.

Child Safety is part of the mandatory PDHPE teachings. If you do not wish for your child to be involved in these lessons please contact the office.

The Tell Them From Me udent survey (Term 3, 2019)

Forbes North Public Sool, like many other public sools in the ate, will parcipate in a Department of Educaon iniave: the Tell Them From Me udent feedba survey. The survey measures faors that are known to affe academic aievement and other udent outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on udent wellbeing, engagement and effecve teaing pracces.

You may remember that our udents also parcipated in a Tell Them From Me udent survey in Term 1 this year. Asking udents to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to idenfy trends in udent responses as well as tra engagement and movaon across the sool year

The survey is a great opportunity for our udents to provide us with valuable and qui feedba on what they think about sool life, how engaged they are with sool and the different ways that teaers intera with them. More than 6,300 sools in Auralia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million udents. Capturing the voices of our udents will help improve how we do things at our sool.

More informaon about the survey is available at: htp://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

I want to assure you that the survey is confidenal. The survey is condued online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be adminiered during sool hours between 6 September and 25 Oober. Parcipang in the survey is enrely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with udents. If you do not want your ild or ildren to parcipate, please return the form to sool by Thursday, 5th September. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: htp://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/informaon-for-parents.

The Tell Them From Me parent survey - Partners in Learning (Term 3, 2019)

This Term, our sool will be parcipang in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (udent, teaer and parent surveys) on udent engagement. The survey asks parents and carers quesons about different faors that are known to impa on udent wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our sool underand parents’ and carers’ perspecves on their ild’s experience at sool. These include: communicaon between parents/carers and aff, acvies and pracces at home and parent/carer views on the sool's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedba will help our sool make praccal improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 3 September and 25 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

More informaon about the survey is available at: htp://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our sool go to: htp://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/ctb5

At Forbes North we are focussing on being more environmentally friendly. It is our goal to raise money through Woolworths Return and Earn at the same time making our school more eco-friendly. PRIMARY ETHICS Primary Ethics will be losing a teacher at the end of Term 3. I have tried to recruit more volunteers for months now with no success. Ethics will not be able to continue in all stages next term, as a result of only having 3 teachers. A letter will be sent home soon to those children for whom Ethics will not continue. Ethics is run by volunteers and without them, we will not be able to provide the service to your children. If you would like to volunteer to help us keep Ethics available for your child, please contact me on

WEEK 3 TERM 4 PERFORMANCE – Wednesday 30th October 2019

Stimulate those young minds with these genuinely amazing illusions.

How is that possible? In these days of pre-recorded, flat screen visual entertainment where everything is possible, Alan challenges his audience, right before their eyes with illusions that get their young brain cells working, trying to work out what actually happened in the seemingly impossible illusions they witness.

Add to this, lashings of humor, a nautical theme, one wise cracking Toucan and Alan’s many years of experience in children’s entertainment and you have over 50 minutes of great children’s theatre.

Far from being just a magic show, Heave Ho Off We Go is a theatrical experience in the tradition of the English vaudeville shows of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Like those shows of old, Alan follows a magic segment with a juggling routine and follows that with one of his many ventriloquist dolls. One of these is the loveable remote controlled Toucan, which no longer has to be operated on the ventriloquist’s arm.

Heave Ho Off We Go is illusions, juggling, ventriloquism and loads and loads of laughs

Note: Students who have paid the voluntary school contribution fees do not need to pay to attend. For students who have not paid the VSC but would like to attend the performance it is a set fee of $5.00 and MUST be paid by Monday 28th October.
