Welding Program The welding program at Otero Junior College is designed to prepare students to obtain entry-level employment in agriculture, production, maintenance environments, railroad and pipe industries. Students may complete one or more certificates simultaneously with the permission of the instructor.
Opportunities for Welding and Production Skills Otero Junior College offers multiple certificates in welding and production that provide students with the foundational skills to enter the workforce. The College is continually evaluating programs to meet the training needs of industry partners, thus preparing our students to have the skills that employers value.
Oxyacetylene Certificate Students learn the basics of safety and cutting processes.
Welding Fundamentals I Certificate This certificate provides the foundation for layout and fabrication, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), and industrial math skills.
Welding Production Certificate Students will advance their GMAW skills and be introduced to flux cored arc welding (FCAW), robotic, and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW).
Welding Fundamentals II Certificate Students will continue to build skills in GMAW, GTAW and SMAW processes.
Advanced Welding Pipe Certificate This certificate will prepare students to work in various pipe industries.
Advanced Welding Railroad Certificate This certificate will prepare students for employment with railroad construction and maintenance operations.
The OJC Welding Program is designed to allow enrollment of high school students, as well as full-time and part-time college students. Scholarship and Financial Aid are available for those who qualify.
