Team Teaching

Students will generally have two core teachers:

- English & History (HUM)- Science & Math (SAM)- Enrichment & PE

Student Expectations

- Homework: Monday–Thursdays

- Independent reading- It’s the student’s

responsibility- Student agenda

English & History (HUM)- English

- Writing-argument, expository, narrative

- Reading, analysis, and citing textual evidence

- grammar

- History - learn about ancient civilizations through

hands-on activities

Enrichment- Time management

and Life Skills - Character Education - Study skills- Art- Music- Drama

Physical Education- Physical activity through sports & games- Balanced program (Mon.–Fri.) that emphasizes: - Motor skills - Movement - Physical fitness

- Cardio- Muscular strength- Flexibility- Setting personal goals

- PE uniform- Locker room- Health lessons (once per week, in the classroom)

Science & Math (SAM)- Math

- Daily basic skills practice (DOM)- Understand mathematics- Emphasis on critical thinking

- Science- NGSS Curriculum Implementation- Really “THINK”-answer questions

completely- Hands-on activities

Technology- Chromebooks - Google Drive- Google Classroom- Email accounts- PowerSchool

Clubs & Extra Activities- Clubs offered before school, during lunch,

and after school to enrich students’ middle school experience

- Examples: Student Council (ASB), Recycling, Movie, DIY, Anime, Speech & Debate, Cooking

- Arcadia Recreation Sports Program, after school

- Peer tutoring two days per week

WEBWhere Everybody Belongs

- Middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes and supports 6th graders as well as other new students

- Built on the belief that students can help other students succeed- 8th Grade WEB leaders (mentors) guide students through a successful

first year- Program begins with a student orientation day on Wednesday,

August 15th, 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.- Includes several support and team building activities throughout the

year- WEB Coordinators: Mrs. Bettencourt, Mrs. Mai, and Mr. van Haaster

Wednesday, August 81:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Make Up Day: August 13, 2018, 3:00 P.M.–5:00 P.M.

Information packets will be available online July 2nd.

July 2nd: Registration/information packets available on the FMS website: fh.ausd.net

Early August: Parent log-in and password for emergencycard and ANTP mailed to home address

August 8th: Scottie Days 1:00 P.M.-3:00 P.M.August 13th: Scottie Days make up 3:00 P.M. - 4:30 P.M.August 15th: WEB Orientation 8:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. August 16th: First day of school (students can register

at 7:30 A.M., but this is not recommended)August 16th: Back to School Night for parents/guardians

6:00 P.M.-7:30 P.M.
