St. Andrew’s Football 2018 is approaching quickly. After an amazing year of growth and development it is exciting to think about what 2018 will hold for St. Andrew’s Football Club.

St. Andrew’s Football Club participates in the Sunshine Coast Competition which caters for all age groups from our youngest U6 up to U17 and above. Some significant changes have taken place in the competition from last season leading in to 2018.

• Our U12 (mixed) competition has changed to a 9 v 9 competition which follows the national curriculum and will improve the transition from MiniRoos in terms of ability and confidence. This is still a competitive division and will be graded appropriately with match officials running these matches still.

• The female age groups are now U13 and U15 which again will help improve the quality of competition and feed a healthier competition for our young females.

St. Andrew’s Football Club values participation in their football and encourage all players in every team. We are also a club who assist players who desire to significantly develop their football ability and confidence, players who set goals and challenge themselves along their football journey. With the expertise of Rui Spinola (Director of Coaching) guiding our club and our players development, it is a fantastic opportunity to be involved and to get as much from the season as possible.

Coaches and managers 2018 are our treasured volunteers and this season we have clarified the requirements of these roles to remove any uncertainty.

Our coaches are fantastic leaders and role models for our players and represent St. Andrew’s Football Club by demonstrating the values and virtues that we represent.

Our managers help with communication and team cohesion and quite often are the backbone of the team. Further below are outlined requirements for each position.

Non-competitive Age Groups (MiniRoos) Our 2018 Football season is all about fun, growth and participation.

Non-GradedOur age groups of U6 through to U9 (mixed gender teams) are the very first foundation years to instil a love of the game for our players. In 2018 These teams will be mixed in ability and gender and the key focus on participation and enjoyment amongst friends. These teams will not be selected on ability.

Graded

The introduction of grading for our junior players begins in the U10 and U11 age groups. Although these are graded divisions they do not keep track of results and tables etc. it is purely to even out the competition based on ability. Teams will be nominated for either Kangaroos or Wallabies based on pre-season training and team selection processes. There does not have to be a Kangaroo’s division team or Wallabies division, it is purely based on the team’s overall ability.

U10 and U11 Division one (Kangaroo’s) – This division involves teams who strive to develop a high level of play and who wish to challenge themselves in their football journey. Teams in this division involve players who strive to play in the first divisions when they enter the early competitive divisions.

Division two (Wallabies) – This division involves teams who may be new to football or who play for the social aspects of the sport. This division places less focus on the ability of players and creates calmer environment in regard to performance.

Competitive Age GroupsIn 2018 the first competitive age group will be U12 (mixed). In this age group there have been some significant changes to align with the nation curriculum. From 2018 onwards the U12 competition will move to a 9 v 9 competition on a half-sized pitch (same as under 10/11). This is a fantastic move to help ensure the transition from MiniRoos to competitive football is smooth and effective. This change will also help players further develop the four core skills which are striking, first touch, 1v1 and running with the ball.

Other age groups consist of U13, U14, U15, U16 etc. Each of these age groups are broken in to divisions 1st, 2nd, 3rd depending on numbers, teams and ability. Teams are nominated in to a division based on assessment from the clubs director of coaching. This enables a healthy competition for all teams.

Competitive age groups keep a record of scores for each game, these are recorded and tabled to determine premierships, finals etc. These age groups are also appointed match officials to each game.

Female Competition In 2018 there have been changes to the age groups for our girls. The new groups are U13 and U15. Girls who are turning 12 (born 2006) are eligible to play for the U13 teams after completing a PA01 form (given by TIC). These changes have been made to best accommodate the development and participation of female football. This change also helps develop players for the Women’s competition divisions at a more appropriate age.

Coaches and Managers Coaches – The coaches role for the team involves leading the team in a multitude of ways. Demonstrating fairness, enthusiasm, leadership and resilience are qualities that our St. Andrew’s coaches show throughout the football season. Coaches need to be available each weekend for the team and for the trainings, this helps in building a team environment and cohesion. For our MiniRoo (U6 – U11) coaches, it is their role to referee the matches with playing at the home venue, for this role a whistle and watch is required and a clear understanding of the rules for that particular age group. For our competitive age group coaches, it is their role to ensure that match protocol and procedures are adhered to by all members of the team.

Managers – The managers role involves communication between all members and families of the tam and it is only the manager who reports to the TIC of Football for any team concerns or questions. The manager looks after the team sheets each week, ensuring that they are completed and handed in to the grounds match officials/canteen/clubhouse. They are also the first point of contact for any team issues such as availability or game location/time.

TrainingTrainings are run by our director of coaching Rui Spinola, Football TIC and our coaches. Training will strongly focus on player development in a safe, game based environment. Our training will coincide with the curriculum and development of the four core skills; striking the ball, first touch, 1 v 1 and running with the ball. It is expected that players attend trainings throughout the season to improve their skills and ability and to also develop a team cohesion.
