Department Vision & Mission

1. Provide academic environment conducive for high quality learning

in Electrical and Electronics Engineering to ensure our graduates

have successful careers.

2. Strengthen industry institute interaction to enable the students

work on real time problems and encourage them to engage in

lifelong learning.

3. Ensure that our students are well trained to work in a team with

professional ethics and apply latest tools for the solution of

engineering problems.

To Emerge as a premier center of learning in

Electrical and Electronics Engineering with scientific

quest having focus on professional ethics and human

values.

I am gratified to know that the department of Electrical and

Electronics Engineering is bringing out the technical magazine “e-Techno

Track”. This is a productive technical material and subsidiary skill

developing tool for the students. I wish this organization “Electrical and

Electronics Engineering Association‟ a very big success in all their ventures.

I also applaud the coordination and efforts behind the team to bring out

this issue. I wish them all success.

Good things remain good only because they are always scarce. I am

glad to pen for this wonderful magazine as an appreciation of the

commendable efforts put forth by the team for its grand beginning. The

efforts taken to bring about innovative content is appreciable. Content on

the various opportunities available in the corporate world and alerts on

various student level competitions shall be included hence forth. Wish you

all a grand operation throughout the year.

This is great news for the college as far as I’m concerned. Students

from the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering are more

energetic and talented among all. The release of this spectacular issue of

their technical magazine has added value to their constant efforts. Through

this message, I wish them “All the very Best” for their future endeavors to

and hope the students to bring more laurels to the college on the whole.

I am pleased to know that our Electrical and Electronics

Department students are once again successful in bringing the magazine

“e-Techno Track”. Our EEE students have established a joint to venture, in

bringing out a technical magazine with their contributions. I express my

compliments to the secretary, the editors and their dedicated committee

for their valuable efforts in bringing out this issue. I wish them all triumph!

It is indeed a happy moment for our Electrical and Electronics

Department as the students have successfully brought out the Magazine “e-

Techno Track”. The most important aspect we could derive from this

stupendous effort is that it brings out the various technical and analytical

skills of the budding engineers. I wish them all the very best for releasing

more such magazine inn future.

It is a noble task on the part of the Department of Electrical and

Electronics Engineering to make it with their frequent issue “e-Techno

Track”. I wish that this magazine establishes to be a flint to fire the

enthusiasm and excite their minds for many intrusive innovations among

the students and inspire passion among the members of the faculty of

Electrical and Electronics committee. My greeting to the editorial board to

keep the good work.

1. Alessandro Volta

Lived 1745- 1827

Alessandro Volta, in full Conte Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta, Italian physicist whose invention of the electric battery provided the first source of continuous current.

Volta became professor of physics at the Royal School of Comoin 1774. In 1775 his interest in electricity led him to improve the electrophorus, a device used to generate static electricity. He discovered and isolated methane gas in 1776. Three years later he was appointed to the chair of physics at the University of Pavia. In 1791 Volta’s friend Luigi Galvani announced that the contact of two different metals with the muscle of a frog resulted in the generation of an electric current. Galvani interpreted that as a new form of electricity found in living tissue, which he called “animal electricity.” Volta felt that the frog merely conducted a current that flowed between the two metals, which he called “metallic electricity.” He began experimenting in 1792 with metals alone. (He would detect the weak flow of electricity between disks of different metals by placing them on his tongue.) Volta found that animal tissue was not needed to produce a current. That provoked much controversy between the animal-electricity adherents and the metallic-electricity advocates, but, with his announcement of the first electric battery in 1800, victory was assured for Volta.

Known as the voltaic pile or the voltaic column, Volta’s battery consisted of alternating disks of zinc and silver (or copper and pewter) separated by paper or cloth soaked either in salt water or sodium hydroxide. A simple and reliable source of electric current that did not need to be recharged like the Leyden jar, his invention quickly led to a new wave of electrical experiments. Within six weeks of Volta’s announcement, English scientists William Nicholson and Anthony Carlisle used a voltaic pile to decompose water into hydrogen and oxygen, thus discovering electrolysis and creating the field of electrochemistry.

In 1801 in Paris Volta gave a demonstration of his battery’s generation of electric current before Napoleon, who made Volta a count and a senator of the kingdom of Lombardy. The Austrian emperor Francis I made him director of the philosophical faculty at the University of Padua in 1815. The volt, a unit of the electromotive force that drives current, was named in his honor in 1881.

2. Leon Charles Thevenin

Lived 1857 - 1926

Guglielmo Marconi (b. Bologna, Italy, 25th April 1874, d. Rome, Italy, 20th

July, 1937) was the second son of Giuseppe Marconi, a wealthy landowner, and his second wife, Annie Jameson, the daughter of an Irish Whiskey distiller. Giuseppe Marconi ruled his household in the style of a martinet. Guglielmo spent

most of childhood away from home. Consequently, his education was neglected. When he was sent to a school, he was unable to cope with his studies and other students made fun of his poor Italian accent. He failed to pass the entrance examination to the Italian Naval Academy and went to Livorno Technical Institute. His ambition was to have an electrical career, but he could not even pass his matriculation. His father became very angry, wrecked the devices Guglielmo had constructed, and even withheld his pocket money. But, his mother did all she could to help her son do his experiments. Marconi did experiments on electromagnetic waves with the assistance of Prof. A. Righi of Bologna and discovered that increased transmission distance could be obtained with larger antennas. In 1895, he achieved a transmission distance of 1.5 miles, and also conceived of 'wireless telegraph' communication.

Being unable to interest the Italian Government in the potential of his work, he moved to London in 1896. His Irish cousin, Henry Jameson Davis, helped him to form and finance the Wireless Telegraph and Signal Co. Ltd., which became Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co. Ltd. in 1900. On behalf of the Italian Government, Solari presented to Marconi a newly invented receiver. Having increased his signaling distance to 150 miles, using a kite borne antenna and Solari's carbon-on-steel detector with a telephone receiver, on the 12th of December 1901, he received a transatlantic wireless communication, the three code dots signifying the letter 'S'. He became famous overnight. But, controversy arose when Prof. Angelo Banti pointed out that the receiver was actually invented by a corporal signalman, Paolo Castelli. After 1902, Marconi spent most of his time managing his companies. He was able to attract highly qualified employees including J. A. Fleming. In 1927, Marconi's company completed a system of shortwave beam stations. In 1932, he discovered that microwaves could be received at a point much farther below the optical horizon than had been predicted by any theory. Marconi received many awards including the Nobel Prize for physics, which he shared with K. F. Braun in 1909.
