Greetings from the Baron & Baroness of Rowany
nto the populace of Rowany do Miles and Ameline send warmest greetings.
This month we travelled to the western portions of our Barony to attend Radburne War. As
always this was a fantastic event, filled with fun fighting, great food and good company. More
than 60 people attended and made it the biggest in many years. It was great to see so many
people both from central Rowany and further afield travelling out there. I know there are some
photos available of the amazing fortifications and other buildings on site and you should try
and see them for yourselves next year.
Lady Annabel de Swinburne is holding an A&S planning workshop on the 12th of September at
Addison Road. We encourage as many people as possible to make it to share ideas. We
would also like to thank Mistress Bethan for her hard work as chronicler and this her last
newsletter.
We plan on attending November Crown in River Haven and we encourage you to consider
travelling north to see the choice of our new Monarchs as well as the spectacle of a Baronial
Changeover.
Also, a reminder that the monthly war combat training has been happening at St Peters
School, on the fourth Sunday of every month. Please speak to Kinggiyadai for more details.

Greetings from the Office of Rowany Seneschal Greetings all,

you wish discussed that is not on the agenda.

A Word from the Arts & Sciences Officer
This is fun! I’ve got an excuse now to trundle all over Rowany, crash A&S things and nerd it up!
Things are happening, some loudly, some quietly.
The Ursulans are very loud. But also phenomenally enthusiastic and developing skills at a
fantastic rate, guided by Helia. Stowe is doing well under Mairi’s guidance, they have monthly
A&S evenings with dancing and various classes.
Dence Park is quiet, productive and welcoming. If you need space to spread out your project
in daylight, there isn’t a better spot, and there was a fine potluck lunchbreak too. Marozia is
currently seeking people to share their knowledge at upcoming Dence Park days for the
capsule wardrobe competition at next Festival. Please see the Dence Park Facebook page to
get in touch with her and see http://festival.lochac.sca.org/as-competitions/ for information
about the capsule wardrobe competition. I also delighted in dropping by Marguerite’s place
for some costuming excellence on Tuesday evening. You can find out more about it through
the Rowany Costuming Collective Facebook group.
I’m holding an A&S planning meeting on Monday 12 September. Please see the notice below
for details. Do come by if you’re interested in how we can encourage and develop A&S in
Rowany over the next year. It’s at the same time as fighter practice so, if you can bear to put
down your weapons for a moment, I hope any interested fighters will also join us.
I’m planning to have a form that you can fill in to express interest in volunteering in general or
for particular tasks, e.g. teaching a class, organising a class, holding keys for regular events,
running a project, running an A&S based event and so on, or being available to assist with any
of these; so do have a think about what you can do, big or small, individually or in groups, to
help foster A&S in Rowany, for the win!
Do email me at [email protected] if you have any input or questions.
In service,
Annabel de Swinburne

Baronial Office of Armoured Marshal Greetings all,
I am delighted to announce that Jean-Christophe le Saussier has been
proposed for the position of Rowany Marshal. The commentary period is now
open, and will be closing midnight, Monday 29th of August. Please send all
comments to [email protected].
YIS,
Unnr
Proposed Rowany Armoured Marshal Greetings to the fine gentles of Rowany,
I am Jean-Christophe le Saussier and, pending commentary, I will be taking over from Lord
Anton de Stoc as your Marshal.
I have been a member of the SCA for approximately 4 years. In that time I have been Reeve
of Rowany, Baronial Champion in Armoured Combat and served on the Royal Guards of Alfar
III & Angharat I, Niall II & Liadan II and Kinggiyadai I & Altani I.
I am currently serving as a Guard to ThorolfR I and Halla I.
My interests lie mainly in the fields of armoured combat
(which is what drew me to the SCA) and serving my Barony
and Kingdom in whatever way that I can. I've also been
known to dabble in voice heraldry.
Mundanely, I am a high history school teacher.
I'm looking forward to being in this role. If anyone has any
questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
