Protecting the EnvironmentUnlike legacy C8 and mixed homologue based fluorinated firefighting foams (AFFF, AR‑AFFF, FFFP, AR‑FFFP, FP, AR‑FP) which are considered to be toxic and bioaccumulative based on current regulatory criteria, PHOS‑CHEK 1% fluorine free foam concentrate does not contain any PFAS ingredients commonly found in fluorinated Class B foam concentrates.While fluorinated firefighting foam should be used where there is a significant flammable liquid hazard, trade/industry groups and associations, working with regulators, have established Best Practice Guidance for fluorinated foam. The foam industry is promoting these best practices for the use and disposal of fluorinated firefighting foams with the goal of significantly reducing discharges to the environment.

The Best Practice Guidance encourages the use of non‑fluorinated foam in multiple applications ranging from structural and residential fires; wildland fires; general facilities protection; Class A hazards (ordinary combustible materials such as wood, cloth, paper, rubber, and many plastics); Class B hazards that are not fuel in depth; (e.g. vehicle fires) and foam training exercises.
