CHAIRMAN’S CHAT
The last meeting of the club is now come and gone. The last meeting of the
year always seems to be a very successful meeting. The main reason, of
course, is the cheese and wine which Renata provides. The variety of
cheeses was fantastic and it is obvious that Renato goes a lot of trouble to
get such a wonderful selection. Following the rather quiet meetings that we
had for the annual competitions it was really great to see a nice turnout of
members at the last meeting. Whether it was for the great food or the
great photography, it doesn’t matter as it was a very enjoyable evening.
This is the time of the year that I look forward to taking my camera on
holiday with me. Every year we go down to the coast and I tried my hand at
some seascapes. I have to be honest, I haven’t been that successful in the
past. It seems to be relatively straightforward to take a decent seascape
photograph but in practice it is not that easy. Last year I tried to take
those seascapes where the sea is soft and fluffy but I found that as soon as
there was any light in the sky, the exposures were not long enough. I have
now found myself a fairly strong neutral density filter so this year I am
going to try that out. For seascapes, just like landscapes, the weather has to
play along as well to really get a good photograph. When you get up before
sunrise it is often difficult to tell whether it’s going to be like. Some clouds
in the sky usually make a very good photograph but too many clouds and the
photograph is flat and dull. It is hard to get out of bed before sunrise but I
cannot remember a single occasion where I regretted it. One of the other
problems that I have experienced is that I have never found an exciting
location. I have tried a number of kilometres both north and south of our
stay but he landscapes always seemed pretty ordinary. Nevertheless, I will
once again load my camera and tripod into the car and head off to the sea
full of renewed enthusiasm.
If you are going on holiday as well I trust that you will have restful and
peaceful time and that you get some awesome pictures. The committee has
really discussed some possible outings and activities for next year so I am
really looking forward to another great club year.
Best wishes
Colin

RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE
1. Select Canvas (Frame) Size under the heading “Image” in Photoshop if you wish to add a
boarder to the image and make your adjustements. If you do not wish to add a boarder, go
to Step 2.
2. Select Image Size under the heading “Image” in Photoshop. Tick the following boxes:
Scales Sizes, Constrain Proportions and Resample Images.
3. The maximum size of the image must not exceed 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high.
4. When resizing a horizontal image (Landscape) enter 1920 pixels in the Width Box and the

the vertical size is 1080 pixels or less, the resizing is correct. If the vertical adjusts to a

the Width Box will change automatically to match the original image if you have ticked the
“Resample Image” box.
6. The maximum image data file size is 1,500Kilobytes in the JPEG format. Note that if a
border is added to the image, this must be added before resizing and reducing the file size to
a maximum of 1,500 Kilobytes to ensure that the image remains within the specified
1,500Kb.
7. It is recommended that the image be displayed in the sRGB Colour Profile. This can be
selected in the camera or changed in Photoshop under Edit/Convert to Profile.

HUMOUR

Just in time for our SARS returns . . . . . .
I finally received my tax return for 2012 back from the SARS.
It puzzles me!
They are questioning the number of dependents I claimed?
I guess it was because of my response to the question:
"List all dependents?"
I replied:
25 | P a g e
· 16 million unemployed people;
· 8 million illegal immigrants;
· 1,5 million drug dealers;
· nearly a million people in overcrowded prisons;
· 234 members of Parliament
· and a President with 6 wives........
SARS suggest that this is NOT correct?
I KEEP ASKING MYSELF, WHO DID I MISS?
I’m really becoming forgetful in my old age...!!!!
