    A fisherman reported a leg floating in a stream located off

    Circunvalacion Avenue in Libertad, Sinaloa. Just days earlier

    (06 August), police discovered the mutilated body of Karina

    Ortega Gonzalez between the Luis Echeverra and Salvador

    Allende neighborhoods of Mazatlan. Both of her legs had

    been cut off. Because of this, authorities believed the leg may

    pertain to this female.

    Pile of Eight Bodies Found inside Pickup in Loma Bonita, Oaxaca 15 August 2010

    State police officers discovered the bodies of eight individuals that had been piled up inside a black

    Chevrolet pickup without plates. This pickup was left abandoned three kilometers from the Ciudad

    Aleman-Sayula highway in the Loma Bonita municipality [17.0542 -97.9458], of Oaxaca. This area is

    near the Tierra Alta farming cooperative. Seven of the now deceased individuals were identified as

    follows:

    Ciriaco Cordova Segundo

    Fernando Cordova Segundo

    Pedro Luis Garcia Gustavo Hernandez Torres

    Alberto Rivadeneira

    Genaro Segundo Cortes

    Jose Segundo Alonso

    According to the State Prosecutor, Maria de la Luz Candelaria Chias, this crime was committed by three

    hitmen whose job was to kill only two of the victims. However, the hitmen killed all of them to avoid

    witnesses.

    Comment: The name of the eighth victim was not reported. Weapons used by the hitmen were

    identified as AR-15s and AK-47s.

    Severed Head Found Inside Cooler in Ciudad Chihuahua, Chihuahua 14 August 2010

    On the night of 13 August 2010, residents reported a severed head that had been left inside a cooler in

    front of the Pistola Meneses Sports Center. This Center is located on Fernando de Baeza and Emilio

    Castaon Streets in the Vicente Guereca neighborhood of Ciudad Chihuahua [28.6333 -106.0833],Chihuahua. The body of the unidentified decapitation victim has not yet been found.

    SSPE officers recovered the dismembered body of a female from Manuel M. Dieguez and Garibaldi

    Streets in the Santa Tere neighborhood of Guadalajara [20.6667 -103.3333], Jalisco. The torso of the

    victim was found inside one bag while her severed head, legs, and arms were found inside another bag.

    The now deceased woman has not yet been identified.

    Six Individuals Killed in Acapulco, Guerrero14 August 2010

    State and municipal police officers found the bodies of six individuals who had been shot in the head in

    Acapulco [16.8500 -99.9167], Guerrero. The victims were found on the second floor of the El Coloso

    housing area located on San Agustin Street in the Camino al Cielo neighborhood. A seventh individual

    that was seriously wounded during the initial attach was also found at the scene. He was taken to the

    hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

    Seven Individuals Murdered in Gonzalez Gallo, Jalisco15 August 2010

    Marcelino Hernandez, the Municipal Public Security Commander, reported the discovery of seven murder

    victims in Gonzalez Gallo [21.1333 -102.8500], Jalisco. The bodies were reportedly found in the

    following locations:

    Three bodies were found on Condor Street near its intersection with Pelicano. One of the bodies

    was lying next to recent model white Ford Lobo.

    One body was found inside a black Expedition on Melchor Ocampo Street.

    One body was found inside a gray Golf on Independecia Street.

    Two bodies were found inside an X-Trail pick up on Mexticacan-Zacatecas highway.

    All of the now deceased individuals were shot multiple times.

    SSP Officer Orlando Miranda Gonzalez was shot to death on the night of 14 August 2010 in the Gustavo

    A. Madero District [19.4786 -99.0958], of the Federal District. The attack occurred at the intersection of

    Cien Metros y Montevideo Avenues in the Lindavista Vallejo neighborhood. At the time of the attack,

    Soldiers Seize Weapons and Vehicles in Sinaloa 11 August 2010

    Soldiers belonging to the 49th and 94th Infantry Battalions, along with the 24 th Infantry Company,

    conducted operations as part of Operativo Conjunto Culiacn-Navolato. The following are the results of

    those operations:

    Soldiers Destroy Thousands of Marijuana and Poppy Plants in Sinaloa 13 August 2010

    Between 19 July 2010 and 04 August 2010, personnel from the 4 th

    Naval Zone headquartered in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, located and

    destroyed the following in mountainous areas of Sinaloa:

    18 marijuana fields

    13 sacks marijuana

    190 kilograms of unprocessed marijuana

    20.5 kilograms of marijuana seed

    8 marijuana nurseries

    In total, these fields covered 74,000 square meters and contained

    nearly 629,000 plants.

    In a separate incident, soldiers seized the following items in the Palo Blanco community of [23.4333-

    105.9000], Sinaloa:

    Seven sacks containing 345 brick shaped packages of marijuana with a net weight of 348

    kilograms.

    4 sacks of containing 75 kilograms of marijuana seed

    1 sack containing 3 kilograms of marijuana seed

    Comment: The Palo Blanco community was reported as being located between La Amapa, El Placer,

    and La Noria.

    FEDERAL POLICE AND LAW ENFORCEMENTFederal Police Officers Dismantle Drug Lab in Guadalajara, Jalisco16 August 2010

    On 15 August 2010, federal police officers dismantled a drug laboratory allegedly used for the productionof crystal meth. The lab was located at a farm (number 421) on 66-A Street near its intersection with

    Republica Street in the Blanco y Cuellar neighborhood of Guadalajara [20.6667 103.3333], Jalisco.

    Seized from this location were 17 large cans with chemicals used to produce crystal meth. A marijuana

    green house with 80 marijuana plants was also discovered in the same location.

    Federal Police Capture Five Sinaloa Cartel Kidnappers in Ciudad Lerdo, Durango 12 August

    2010

    Federal police detained five Sinaloa Cartel kidnappers in Ciudad Lerdo [25.5333-105.5333], Durango.

    These individuals allegedly participated in the kidnapping of reporters on 26 July 2010. Previously, three

    other individuals involved in this same incident were arrested. The names of the most recently detained

    kidnappers were listed as follows:

    Hector Jesus Flores Gutierrez, 27 aka El Adan, from Ciudad Lerdo, Durango. He was identified

    as the leader of the group. His principal duties included orchestrating kidnappings and recording

    ransom tapes. He is believed to be the individual that initially transported the reporters to the

    safe house.

    Cesar Alejandro Valdez Guerrero, 30, aka El Chupon, from Lerdo, Durango.

    Berenice Hernandez Gonzalez, 20, aka La Morena, from Lerdo, Durango. She was a drug

    distributor.

    Edgar Eduardo Cruz Vazquez, 31, aka El Teco

    Maciel Cruz Montelongo, 22, aka El Pizzas, from Lerdo, Durango

    Seized from these individuals were the following items:

    9 vehicles of various makes and models

    (6) .223 caliber AR-15 rifles

    Pistols

    45 kilograms of marijuana

    Ballistic vest

    Magazines (quantity not specified)

    Cell phones

    License plates pertaining to various vehicles

    two simultaneous operations that

    led to the arrest of four members

    of Los Fabila kidnapping gang.

    The operations were conducted

    in Mexico State and Guanajuatoafter officers located a safe

    house in Las Teresas neighborhood of Guanajuato. The now arrested Los Fabila members were identified

    as follows:

    Alfredo IBARRA Lozano, 34, aka La Chor

    The AO of this group was identified as being in Mexico State, Puebla, and Guanajuato. Ransoms for the

    kidnapping victims were commonly requested from payphones.

    Federal Officers Arrest Five Members of La Linea in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua 13 August 2010

    On 12 August 2010, federal police officers arrested

    five members of La Linea on Tomichi Street in the

    Pradera de la Sierra neighborhood of Ciudad Juarez[30.3167 -108.0833], Chihuahua. These individuals

    were identified as follows:

    Noe FUENTES Chavira, 29. After

    questioning, he confessed to having served

    as a lookout in the attack carried out against

    federal police officers on 15 July 2010 in

    Ciudad Juarez.

    Rogelio AMAYA Martinez, 27, aka El Roger

    Victor Manuel MARTINEZ Renteria, 19

    Gustavo MARTINEZ Renteria, 24, aka El Tavo

    Ricardo FERNANDEZ Lomeli, 28, aka El Riqui

    The individuals listed above are linked to the murders of two federal police officers on 07 August 2010

    and 10 August 2010. They are also under investigation for their involvement in kidnappings, extortions,

    robberies, and sexual assaults in Ciudad Juarez. Those items seized from these individuals were reported

    as follows:

    Eighteen Year Old Kidnapping Victim Found in Ravine in Santa Maria Chiquimula, Guatemala -

    12 August 2010

    Guatemalan National Civil Police recovered the body of a

    kidnapping victim identified as Bryan Solis Guinea, 18, in

    Santa Maria Chiquimula, Guatemala. This individual was

    kidnapped by five armed men along with his 16 year old

    girlfriend who was later freed. She told authorities that

    Solis Guinea was shot in front of her and then thrown into a

    ravine. The kidnappers initially demanded a $(QCT)

    100,000 ransom for the boy, but only made contact with thefamily one time so they were never actually able to pay the

    ransom.
