Another Skyhawk Joins the Fleet Exciting news graces

Indy Flight Training! A

2004 Cessna Skyhawk,

N20519, a twin of C172,

N527DS, arrived at Indy

Jet this month (these two are within

10 serial numbers of each other)!

We are eager to get her some air-

time, so visit Skyscheduler and book

your next flight. She received plenty

of attention her first day on the line,

from pilots and students wanting to

fly the “new aircraft”.

The amount of flight students enrol-

ling into Indy Flight Training pro-

gram has increased exponentially

this year, requiring the need for

more capacity. Supplementing our

fleet with another C172S gave us the

ability to accommodate more

renters and flight training customers

alike. Ryan Maxfield, GM and Chief

Instructor, explained the reasoning

of purchasing such similar

aircraft, “Fleet standardiza-

tion is very important when

it comes to training. I want-

ed an airplane that looked

and felt identical to 527DS. Even the

avionics are virtually the same. Now

students can move between the two

airplanes seamlessly without any dif-

ferences training”

To celebrate the

aircrafts arrival,

we are offering a C172 promotion! Put

a one-time deposit of $2,000 on ac-

count and we will waive the $399 Club

Membership initiation fee and first

month’s dues! Thereafter, a $39

monthly due will be required to main-

tain membership. Take advantage of

our membership program with lower

rental rates and discounts on flight

school supplies. *Members receive a

$20 per hour discount on the 172 and

$5 per hour instruction.

If you would like to test out our new

Cessna Skyhawk, please call 317-335-

3371 or visit Skyscheduler. Let’s wel-

come N20519 to our fleet and have fun

in the sky!

Roll-Air Coaster

Experience the ultimate in airborne excitement!

See

the

world

from a

point

of

view

that

few

get to witness and take a ride on the Roll-AIR-

Coaster. You don't need a single ounce of flying

experience to enjoy the thrills of aerobatic flight.

Where you go and what you do is completely up

to you. You will have to surgically remove the

smile of your face!

Three different packages are offered. The Basic

Roll-AIR-Coaster consists of basic barnstormers’

type maneuvers that include barrel rolls, loops,

and experiencing flying upside down.

If you prefer an extreme adrenaline rush, the

Extreme Roll-AIR-Coaster is the perfect package

for you. Some of the maneuvers include things

like vertical spins, tailslides, and gyroscopic tum-

bles. You still are able to make all the choices, if

you can handle it.

Besides thoroughly enjoying flying upside down,

we feel that Aerobatic and Upset Recovery train-

ing is some of the most important flight instruc-

tion you can get. Knowing what your aircraft can

and cannot do is the primary goal of our Aerobat-

ic Flight Training Package. Realizing and under-

standing the entire flight envelope of your air-

craft are not skills you will use on a daily basis,

but are essential in making a safe landing when

conditions are less than adequate.

Indy Jet is now a

CAA Preferred FBO!

Indy Jet highly recom-

mends Enterprise for

your next car rental.

Prices for each package are as follows:

Aerobatic Flight Training: $299 plus instruc-

tor fee of $50

Roll Air Coaster Basic Rides: $220

Roll Air Coaster Extreme Rides $260.

For an additional $50, you are able to record

your experience!

Here are some tips to make your aerobatic ride

or lessons more enjoyable:

Don't stress about getting sick. Nearly every-

one returns from the flight with a huge smile.

Make sure that you eat something an hour or

two before your flight.

Stay hydrated.

Arrive rested. Get a good night’s rest and

avoid alcohol until after the flight.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes (no

boots, heels, clogs, dress shoes, etc., please).

Bring sunglasses. We fly when it's sunny!

A camera can be used before and after the

flight, but must stay on the ground during.

Be prepared to empty your pockets. Loose

change, keys and cell phones are not items

you want flying around the cockpit.

Your friends and family are welcome to join

you at the airport, but they won't see your

flight. Due to FAA regulations, aerobatics

must be performed away from the airport.

Adequate weather conditions are a must to

perform aerobatics safely. If weather condi-

tions are poor we will contact you and re-

schedule for another day.

To schedule your thrill ride, please call 317-335-

3371.

Apparently, July is the month for solo-

ing! Three Indy Flight Training stu-

dents earned their solo wings in July:

Connor Hofmeister, Chad Husted and

Grant Husted all accomplished flying

without the comfort of their CFI next

to them.

CFI of all three flight students is Sean

MacDermott. Connor Hofmeister per-

formed his solo, July 18th, Chad on July

20th and Grant on July 21st.

All three solos were satisfactorily com-

pleted! Congratulations Connor, Chad

and Grant!

Scott Buckles Certified Flight Instructor, Dave Remon-

dini, has met yet another one of his goals

of becoming a CFII.

On June 18th Dave

met with Designated

Pilot Examiner, Bob

Duncan, to perform

his checkride. Due

to thunderstorms gracing the area, Dave

completed the oral portion, but post-

poned the flight until a later date.

June 29th was the proposed date for Dave

to show his capabilities in the G-1000

equipped Cessna 182. The flight includ-

ed “teaching” a hold at Shelbyville VOR

and how to utilize the VOR 19 into Shel-

byville Municipal Airport. After following

GPS back to MQJ for a partial panel ap-

proach, Dave was signed off as Indy

Flight Trainings’ newest CFII.

"I never would have passed without

the tremendous instruction and support

I got from Indy Jet's own CFII, Jack Mor-

ton. Thanks, Jack!" -Dave

Scott Buckles accomplished what every

aspiring pilot dreams, passing the

checkride. July 9th, Scott arrived at MQJ

to meet with Designated Pilot Examin-

er, Bob Duncan, in hopes, that at the

end of the day he could call himself a

pilot. Past attempts at the anticipated

flight deemed improbable, due to inad-

equate weather conditions and sched-

ule conflicts, but Scott was determined.

When asked about

his checkride and

flight training experi-

ence, Scott stated, “It

was an exciting day

that I will always re-

member! I received

much support from

my wife, kids and fellow students, lead-

ing up to the event. I would like to give

a big “thank you” to the terrific folks at

Indy Jet. From day one, my train-

ing experience was most enjoyable and

I can't imagine flying anywhere else. I

would especially like to thank my CFI,

Derick Parker, a true professional from

preflight to postflight. Derick helped

me set a good pace for learning and

was enthusiastic about my progress.”

In regards to Scotts’ future plans and

advice for aspiring pilots, he says “I

look forward to pursuing additional

certifications! For those who are pre-

paring for the practical test; the key is

to be patient, stay focused and prepare,

trust your training, and enjoy the mo-

ment…the day is yours!”

His checkride went without a hitch,

landings were satisfactory and his ma-

neuvers were precise. After taxiing to

the ramp, Scott entered the FBO, all

smiles; he could officially call himself a

pilot. Congratulation Scott!

Meet Your Hangar Neighbor As most al-

ready know,

T-Hangar

tenants are

an im-

portant part

of the Indy

Jet family.

They are our

base clients

who have

chosen to

make MQJ

home to their aircraft. As part of our family, we want to introduce you to the

amazing men and women who have made Indy Jet their residence. What better

way to meet your hangar neighbor?

Andy Dix, owner and chief pilot of a 1976 Cessna 177B, N19814, "Dolly Jane" is

currently residing in Hangar 406-8. He has over 600 hours of VFR flying and is

currently working on his Instrument Rating. He has been flying since 2004 and

learned to fly at, K3C1, Mishawaka Pilot's Club, near Elkhart, IN.

Andy recalled the moment he realized he wanted to fly, “Even as a child I wanted

to be a pilot. My high school physics teacher was a pilot and club member in a

Piper at Valparaiso. The summer of my senior year of high school, he and his wife

(also a pilot), flew a friend and I to Land of Lakes, WI to meet up with my parents,

who were on vacation. I was hooked!”

Years later for Andy’s birthday; his wife purchased a discovery flight while living

in Evansville, IN. The experience of flying over Ohio River was amazing. At the age

of 40, Andy decided it was time to get in the cockpit. They were living in Granger,

IN at the time and Mishawaka Air Activities (MAA) was not only very affordable,

they had a club program.

After relocating to Indianapolis, Andy was in search of an FBO to hangar his Car-

dinal. He chose MQJ for the dual runways, ILS and the access to several emergen-

cy landing areas in the event of an issue during takeoff.

“My favorite view in all of Indianapolis is sitting outside of 406-8 and looking

east. The beacon is in view as well as beautiful fields and distant trees. You will

often find me just enjoying this view from the "front porch" of my hanger”, Andy’s

says in regards to his hangar, also known as “Summer Cottage”.

His favorite memories include the Indy Airshows and the recent AOPA Fly-In. “It's

always great to see the home field buzzing with activity”, he says. “My hope is to

build a community of aviation enthusiasts at KMQJ. Stop by 406-8 anytime and

say “Hi”! It would be great to meet my neighbors and to have some more folks to

hanger-fly with.”
