FLYING HORSE FARMS OVERVIEW WHO WE ARE • Flying Horse Farms provides magical, transformative camp experiences for children with serious illnesses. Located on 200 acres just outside Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Flying Horse Farms hosts hundreds of children and families each year—free of charge. • We are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. 100% of our year-round operating budget of $3.9 million is underwritten by the generosity of others. We are funded by gifts from individuals, corporate partners, grants, and foundations. • Flying Horse Farms is the first camp in the Midwest to become a member of The SeriousFun Children’s Network (SFCN). Founded in 1988 by actor, philanthropist, and Ohio native, Paul Newman, the Network is a community of independently managed and financed camps and programs creating opportunities for children with serious illnesses. The Network has evolved from one camp in Connecticut to a growing global community touching the lives of 518,000 children and families from 50 countries, across five continents. WHO WE SERVE • We serve children ages 7-15, and their families, from across the state of Ohio and beyond. • The children who benefit from our camp have illnesses including rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, hematologic disorders, pulmonary disease, gastrointestinal disease, heart disease, kidney disease, and craniofacial anomalies. OUR MEDICAL PROGRAM

• Campers receive constant supervision and medical services at The WellNest, our 24-7 onsite health center.

• Physicians and medical professionals provide two critical resources—they help us connect with children who could benefit from our camp program, and provide medical care while the children are at camp.

• We have partnerships with eight Ohio’s Children’s Hospitals, as well as Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh: Akron Children’s Hospital Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus) Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Dayton Children’s Hospital Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Mercy Children’s Hospital (Toledo)

2014 INITIATIVES

• Welcome up to 800 campers and families for: 1 Alumni/Sweater Camp Weekend 6 Family Camp Weekends 5 Summer Residential Camp Weeks 1 Fall Residential Craniofacial Camp Weekend 1 Summer Residential Sibling Camp Week

• Partner with Alcoa Foundation and SeriousFun Children’s Network to launch the expansion of the Alcoa Good and Green Fellowship from Flying Horse Farms to six SeriousFun Children’s Network sister camps: Camp Korey (Washington) The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp (Connecticut) The Painted Turtle (California) Over the Wall (United Kingdom) Double H Ranch (New York) Bator Tabor (Hungary)

• Host our inaugural Residential Craniofacial Camp Weekend.

• Expand our existing teen and Ranger programs to include additional adventure and outdoor programming.

2013 SEASON OVERVIEW

• Welcomed 698 campers and families for: 1 Alumni/Sweater Camp Weekend 6 Family Camp Weekends 5 Summer Residential Camp Weeks 1 Alumni/Final Campfire Camp Weekend 1 Summer Residential Sibling Camp Week

• Over 2,400 volunteers provided a total of 43,800 hours of service in various roles. Volunteers served as cabin counselors, medical volunteers, sites and facilities volunteers, event support, interns and office support, and service project groups.

• In Spring 2013, we opened our high and low ropes course for the first time. Our course is fully adaptable to children with limited mobility.

• Received ACA-Accreditation status from the American Camping Association.

• For the third year, Alcoa Foundation provided funding for Flying Horse Farms to hire fellows for the summer. Alcoa Good and Green Fellows developed camp programs around sustainability (ex: composting, creating a worm farm, building flower beds, gardens, nature hike programs, fish habitats, bat houses, etc.).

2012 CAMP SEASON OVERVIEW

• Welcomed over 500 campers and families for: 5 Summer Residential Camp Weeks 1 Summer Residential Sibling Camp Weekend 6 Family Camp Weekends

• Nearly 1,500 volunteers provided a total of 37,000 hours of service in various roles. Volunteers served as cabin counselors, medical volunteers, sites and facilities volunteers, event support, interns and office support, and service project groups.

• The Flying Horse Farms staff relocated from the Easton offices to work on-site at camp in the Big Red Barn.

• A boating program was developed through a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

• The outpost camping area was unveiled, allowing teen campers the unique experience of sleeping under the stars in teepees.

• Camp launched the Ranger program, a service-learning program for alumni campers from ages 16-18.

• For the second year, Alcoa Foundation provided funding for Flying Horse Farms to hire fellows for the summer. Alcoa Good and Green Fellows developed camp programs around sustainability (ex: composting, creating a worm farm, building flower beds, gardens, nature hike programs, fish habitats, bat houses, etc.).

2011 INAUGURAL CAMP SEASON OVERVIEW

• Welcomed over 400 campers and families for: 3 Summer Residential Camps 1 extended Sibling Camp Weekend 7 Family Camp Weekends

• In April 2011, Flying Horse Farms opened its inaugural camp season with a Spring Family Camp Weekend.

• Families came from across the state of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and one camper from Alabama.

• Physicians and Medical Professionals from many of our hospital partners provided on-site medical care during Family Camp Weekends and Summer Residential Camp Weeks.

• Partnered with Alcoa Foundation to create the first year of the Alcoa Good and Green Fellowship, which engaged 20 fellows as seasonal staff members at camp.
