The legends and traditions of Halloween go back several centuries, for sure! At the time my logic was based upon my only wanting to do things that glorified God, and I could not see how dressing up like the devil could possibly do that. So I cautioned my children not to partake in Halloween. Over the years I have changed my mind on the subject. A broader view of Scripture gave me a better understanding of how God can take even what is intended for evil, and use it for good. I also know that to the pure at heart, all things are pure. And so, I now have all the fun of Halloween, gruesome and violent costumes excluded. However, I am also careful with my liberty. As per Romans 14:14-15 “I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. If your brother or sister is being injured by what you eat [or how you act], you are no longer walking in love. As walking in love is more important than being right, I do not force my views on Halloween upon anybody. Pastor Rick Published Weekly by the First United Methodist Church 132 Cherokee Rd. THE NAVIGATOR

From Our Pastor Wednesday Oct. 16, 2016

Halloween Revisited In my earlier “fundamentalist” days, I asked my children not to celebrate Halloween because of its supposed root in practices of the occult and witchcraft. Pastor Rick
