We kllo\v so little of the value of the blood of the Lamb. \Vc speak of its value on the earth III the ""cleansing of man. But it goes further and beyond that: it undoes the very source of all eyil. 1 f the fountain head. the source, is stopped, you may expect that soon the river will dry up.

The Son of man has had a mighty conAict wi th the forces of evil, so mighty that the enemy C:lu:-;cd 11 is blood to be shed-the vcry bl ood of the God-man, the SOI1 of God-the blood of Him hy who111 nil things were created and by whom all things consist. will turn to I Stlln. 22: 1,2, you will get an cX<lmplt' of this ill type. "J)a,·id therdore dcpartec1thcnce, and csrap('ci to the t'a,·c J\dullalll: and when his brethren and all his fatlH'r's house IH.'ard it, thty went down thither to him' ( I Sam. 22 :1. 2). ",\nri everyone that was in distress, and everyone that was in debt, and cn'ry ont that was discollteIlH:d. g-ather('c! themselves I1nto hi 111 ; ami he h('cam(' a captain over them:" in otl1(' r words, "hc gathered together the outcasts (,f Israel."

f)a,·id was in it vcry tight corner. He had Aed away from the vengeance of Saul and had gone to Achish the king of Galh. But there was no rC'it for him ill Gath. They began to 'iay, "Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another of him in the dances, saying, Sa ul hath ... Iain his thou sands, and David hi!' ten th ousands?" I)a"icl heard it and knew that his life was in jeopardy. and determined to escape, David laid up these words of the lIIen of Gath in hi s heart. and was sore afraid; so he changcd his hchavi our, and feigned himself mad-in their hand s. sc rabbled on the doors of th(' g-ate. and kt his spittle fall down upon his heard. Then the king said. "Ye see the man is Illad: wherefore then ha'·e yc hrought him to me?" This was just what David want('(1 him to think. He had to feign himself Illad ill order t o escape from Achish.

"J);l\·id there fore departcd thence, and escaped to the rave of .. ·\dullam." rt ",as not a heautiful palace or dwelling place . hut ju s t a (a'·e.

\Vhen his brethren and father heard it they went dowlJ to him. And everyone lhat was in distress, a nd e"eryone that was in deht, and e,'en'one thal was disconl<'ntcd, gathered them selves unto hll11; and he became a captain over them. I wonder whether I~e wanted all that sort of people. 00 you suppo~e he sa id to them. " I don't want this sort of people. I want some real good stufT"? The \Vord docs not rc<:ord that h(' lUrned away an)" and I ha"e come to the l"ondu'iioll that he did not turn allyollc away. If Y()~l arc in distress l1ly advice to you is, get away as qlllrkly as you ran to the l"ave of "dullal11. Thcse l1len wcre in d('ht, Heeing from crcditors; ci"ilization afforded them 110 refuge. David did not say. "Get oIT. J ~hall have to pay your debt if you come." Ko, he welcomed them all.

EH·n·ol1e that was discontented. There are Illany discontented people today who say life is not worth li ving. ]n ~pitc of all the efforts of the world to amuse them they are 110t satisfied. Try the cit\'e! Try David! Evcryone in distress or in debt. You do not know how Illuch you owe, your debt is too big and too heavy to be reckoned. but the best thing you can do is to get to the ca\"e of , \dulla1l1,

David became a captain over them and there were with him about fOllr hundred men. it was what I should cnll it ragamuffin army. Here they came. some in rags. no money to buy clothes. deeply in debt (some h'"'d not it rag of righteousness left). r see great encouragement for others who are in that ragamuffin condition this Illorning. without a rag of righteousness or a cent of goodness in their pockets. There is it plact of refuge in the cavc.

There ,n'I"(' ahout four hundred men. <la .contem~t-11>1(' little armv" I wonder why they came to nand \\"In· did they'" not go to someone (:Ist? The answer of thc \Vonl of God is that there was not another like David in all the land of Israel. First of all the~(: was none like him in character. GOd. declares ht~ charal"t(:r. Ife said. "[ ha,·e found nand the son of Jt~S('. a man after mine own hea.rt.'· That is what God !\aid about him; and when God ~peaks it is time for us to be silent about him.

Set·undl\". There was not another in all the coast:. of Israel like David in achievement. There was.a day when brael and the Philistines were approacltJn~ to battle and the two armies were upon t\\10 scct lons nr ris'ing ground facing ca('h other. TI~e father of David sent him to see how his hrethren til the a.rmy wcre getting on. \\"hen Da,·id got to t~le bat~lc f:Ollt what did he find? He heard a stentonan vOice ringing out fro111 across thc valley and he ~a\\' the mcn of I sracl shrink at the sound of that vOice. lIe asked, "\Vhat is this?" Thcy replied that this was t.he giant Goliath that was come out to defy the armies of Israel. ",'\nd Oa\"id spake to the men that s tood hy him, saying, \\'hat shall be done to the man that killcth this Phili !'-. tine, and taketh away. the rep:o~ch from I srael ? for who is this ~111circul11C1 s~d. Phlltstll~~ that he should defy the anmes of the hVlIlg God. ",I\nd he (Da\'id) took his ~taff in hi s hand , and c~ose fIve smooth st ones ont of the brook, and pu~ them In.a shepherd's bag which he had. even in a scnp; and IllS sling was in his hand: and he ~Ircw nea~, to the Philistine:' ,\ \\'elshman once saId t o me, Do you know what those stones arc ?, I s~ id. "No.". H~ said. "The)' arc the \Vonl of God: It hl.tS ever~ lime. "So Oavid pre\'ailed over the gIant \,·.nh a sl lllg and with a s t one;" and there was a great \"Ictory that day. The reason these men came to I.)avid. t~le~cfore,. was because there was not another hke Dand In achlevc ment in all the coasts of hrae\.

But there is st ill a third rcasoll why Lhey came to Da \'id. It was because he was anointed to be kil~g. "Then Samuel took the horn of oil. and anointed 111m ill the mid st of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forwa.rd." .AII Israel did not acknowledge him a~ the coming klllg. but some did.

\\'c can sec that David was a t ype of our greater David the Lord 'esu~ Christ. First in his character. God s;tid of Ili s 'dear Son. "This is ~[)' belovcd Son. in whom I alll well plea sed ." Je'iu", is ~he perfect On.c. The Father i" well plca:-.ed with 11 lin. Second, III

achievement there is not another like J esus. Surely Goliath is a type o f Satan. the prince of dark.ness and the leader of the hos t of the Philistines. Jesus t~e SOil of God. the Lion of the tribe of Judah , met hIm single ~ handed at the cross of Calvary and wrought a mighty victory that day .

. \lso Jesus as David is anointed to be King. Do we not s ing of Him:

"Jesus shall reign where'er the SUIl

Doth his successh·e journeys run; llis kingdom spread fr0111 shore to shore, Till 11I(lOllS shall rise and W;tIlC no more."

.:\nd we s ing because we belie'·c .He is the c~)IningKing. The world says, "1\0. we \\111 have a klllg. of our own choosing." God says, "Yc shall have a klllg of My choosing." \Vhcn Jesus came up out o~ the Jordan lie was anointed to be ~(ing. God anolllted I lim \\·ith the Holy Ghost and \\"Ith power.

But what about the C;1\"('? \\'hat is a ca,"e? First of all. it is a dwelling plac<.' "not made with hands." That is the ~afe~t place in which to bc. } helil'\"e that ('a"c is a type oi the church of Jl':-.ttS ("hri:-.t, F irstly, it i~ Goers building; ~eculldl)", it is a hiddl'll place. The world docs not know where it is. But e\"eryonc that is in debt. or in distrcss. or tilscontentcd . is looking to find out where the can' is; in fact. they search until they do find it. The can' is a place outside of civilization. \\'hen the great world ,\"ar broke out I read many of the papcrs; and the} ..:ontained stich wails from the leading journalists of the day, who sa id . "\'Yhere two or three arc gathered together in 11y name, there am I in the mid"it of t hem." It may be a cave, a barn, a little cottage meeting, a great building; but where two o r three arc gathered tog't'lhl'l' in Ilis name , there fTe is in the midst.

In th e eyes of Illen that four hu nd red was ';a contemptible little ar111Y." a ragamuOin arllly. But they had Da\'id, and Da"id began to put them through their drill. FAITH TRIUMPHANT Habakkuk's Vision

There IS s~en no ray C?f light ahead for the believing heart, ~ntll a deaf car IS turne~ to the throbbing fear~. Then 15 heard out of the thIck darkn~ss God's st ill small "nice ~ay il1g a~ He did, to Ilahakkuk, til am 'working a work III your days whIch ye will not believe though it I~(' l("ld .r0u" ( 1 :5). And faith worships Him as the l·.\·crlasllllg One, even Jehovah (1 :12).

\~ the burden of perplexity is poured out before Ilim, faith takes her place on the watchtower (2:1), knowing thal God answers the cry of the perplexed

heart, but that when God's answer comes there mast be a response from faith. And this is the crux of thc eye of faith today. What i. to be faith'. response to God? God's answer to the prophet's cry was a command to make plain the vision for others to read; not to keep it as a bit of personal comfort for his own soul. \Vith this command came the reiterated promise, that the vision-the unveiling of the coming One-would surely come quickly, But it also included a personal message to the prophct-"Wait for it." And faith waits expectantly, God's fi\'efold woes are declared upon the workers of iniquity; but faith is immediately lifted above all these scenes of darkness to Jehovah llimself, and HE IS in His holy temple. He has taken care of the affairs of this world. Not onc of all the myriad forces of evil at work in 'this world have been overlooked. His word hath gone forth ('ol1cerning all of them "The government is upon r I is shoulders."

Faith hath nothing to do with the scenes of im pending c,.,.iL The revelation that the Lord is in His holy temple is a call to worship, When Isaiah saw the Lord in His temple, even the attending seraphim had their fa ces covered as they joined in the worship -"J loly. holy, holy, is the Lord of hosls" (Isa. 6 :3). When the vision opens before Habakkuk he sees, not the glory of ] ehoyah filling the temple, but the Lord Himself, and the cry goes forth, "Let all the earth keep silence before Him" (2 :20). Every human voice is hushed, and Faith takes up her song, at first so \\ avering, yet so soon utterly los t in the revelation given of His glory and power. No longer is faith trembling in perplexity, but in complete abandonment worships the Lord in Spirit and in truth.

Then the vision lifts and the prophet, undismayed, enumerates that part of the divine program that may be just before him \3 :17), and with holy boldness joins faith in the song of triumph-HI will rejoice in Jehovah, 1 will joy in the God of my salvation" (3:18). Faith had worshiped in the presence of the Lord, "substance had been giycn to t l1<' things hoped for ," and the)' are fearlessly declared, "The Lord IS my strength. He maketh my feet like hind's feet, and will make Ille to walk tlpon my high places" (3 :19),

Faith's response to Jehovah was worship in His holy temple. "And when he is come, he will reprove the world of , , . rightcousnes~, because I go to my Father" (John 16 :8,10). And we are in Him before t hI.! prescnce. of the Father. Hallelujah! Let us therefore also worship in Spirit and in truth; and as we do, the things hoped for will become spiritual realities. Amen.

"Trial humbles the soul and enables it to bear the ripened blessing, and to carry a full cup with a steady hand. Faith is not discouraged, but holds on in patience, expecting the promised blessing in the fitting time."

"In trial of faith, let us take heed to our spirit t hat we trust God without stint, The soul's repose in Him is His delight; and He will honor it. Jehovah sitteth King upon the flood s, and Faith sits with Him."

"The chief excellency of faith is t hat it brings \1 5

into fellow ship with God, Abel- the first spoken of in Hebrews 11 - is commended, not because of any great deed on man's account, but because he worshiped God acceptahly. Nevertheless, if we trust God, t here is no limit to t he power of fa ith, w hat ever the thing to be done,"

BIBLE DISEASES FROM THE STANDPOINT OF MODERN MEDICAL SCIENCE

Lilian B. Yeomans M.D. In rcading the Bible accounts of the healing of dis

eases, we are apt to \,"onder whether the ills from which the patients suffered were identical \\"ith sicknesse ~ , .... hich arc l1rCyalcnt in modern times. As the language in which some of thl' cases arc described is rather t111li.kc terms ~I~. common ti"(' among tiS to· day, w e find It rather dlfhcult to determine the exact nature of th.e diseases'; so with the view of bringing them m.ore 1010 the realm of every-day thought, ane so ma~lIlg them ~C~ ... to l~S and a greater inspiratior to liS \11 our physIcal testtngs, I think it advisable tc gi ve a little time to the study of Bible diseases.

Leprosy True leprosy, the technical name for which is "ele

phantiasis Graecorum" (said to have been so called because it is as much bigger than other diseases as the <:.1cpb;~nt i~ .larger .tl1aH other animab), i~ pfobabl'y IdcntICal With .the.: Illcurable leprosy of the Bible. It IS the lIlost fornlldable and hopcless of all maladies. i\ltho.ugh it still afflicts humanity in certain localities. cspcClally . the Sandwich Islands, lndia, ~orway, thc \Vest Indlcs, and other place~, no cffccti,'c remedy has ever b<.:cn d iscO\"ered fOf it.

Symptoms-Skin eruptions, rutting and dropping ofT of parts of the hody. such as the limbs, cyelids, etc. (such di~fig, uremellt that all t race of human resemb!ance is somelilllc~ lost); "graveyard breath;" terribl e dreams: despaIr , and hatred of life.

Nine cases of leprosy arc mentioned in the Old Testam~nt: ~oses (Ex. 4:6), 'Miriam (Num. 12). Naaman (2 K111gS 5:1), Gehazi (2 Kings 5:27). Uzziah (2. ehron. 26: 19·21). and. four unna mcd persons (2 Kmgs 7:3). Job, also, IS be lieved by many Bible scho lars to have suffe red from t his disease. Note that he wa s afflicted with "sore boil s" (Job 2 :7), the same word a5 that tran:, latcd "botch" in Deut. 28 :3j"a sore botch that cannot be heaJed." Observe also the following symptoms which accompanied his disease: "awful dreams" (Job 7:3, 4, 13,14), emaciation (16:8), fo ul breath (17:1), hatred of life (3:20-22), changed appearance-"knew him not" (2 :12).

Twelve cases of leprosy are referred to in the New Testament: The single leper mcntioned in Matt. 8: 1-4 ; Mark I :40-45 ; and Luke 5:12-14; said by Luke to have b~el1 "full C?f leprosy" (Luke uses proper Greek medIcal terms 111 both the Gospel and the book of Acts), thc ten lepers (Luke 17:12-19), and Simon the leper (Matt. 26 :6)-belie,'cd to have been healed by Jesus.

In the in structions to the p riests, in the 13th and 14th chapters of Leviticus, regarding lepers, it is evident that more t han one form o f the disease is re ferred to ; .while th~ l epe~-c ~ ean sing ceremony (Lev. 14 :1-7)-\\" lth the bIrd sla111 10 an ear then vessel over runn ing water, and the li "e bird dipped in blood and re leased-beaut ifully typifies Chris t, taking upon Him o~r nature! and, through the Eternal Spirit, offering Hl1l1self WIthout spot unto God for our redemptionglorious liberation from all disabilities of spirit, soul, and body.

See Numbers 11 :31-33: 14:37: 16:49: 25:9; 2 Sam. 24 : 12- 17 ; 1 Kings 8 :37 ; and others. Some of these visitations seem to ha ve resembled, possibly were identical wi th, modern plagues, such a s true Buboplague, I3lack Death, etc. There.is nothing in the great mortality attending the Scripture instances at all unlike that which was seen in epidemics of the Bubo-plague. HPraycr begets prayer. Prayer beget s faith, and faith will move God to move mountains, raise the dead, heal the sick . 'Lord, teach us to pray.' It is a fact that many neglect secret praycr and Biblc study and thcn wonder why they have no power with God o r souis. It is much easier to preach and write about prayer than to get down to business and pray through. Simply talking to the air is not prayer. Lung-straining noi se is not prayer. A quarter minute's grace said over an hour's dinncr is not prayer. Threc minutes in a night-dress beside the bed and two hasty words bcfore dressing in the morning is not prayer. No, sir! MEDITATION Andrew Bonar tells of a s imple Christian in a farm

hOll se who had "meditated the Biblc through thrce timcs." This is precisely what the Psalmist had dOllC; hc "had shak en every tree in God's garden and gathered fruit therefrom." The idea of meditation is to "get into the middle of a thing." Meditation is to the mind what digestion is to the body. Unless the food be digested, the body receives no benefit; so unless the mind understands and the hcart C011-

sents and recei\'es, we deri\'e no good from what we read or hear. This is spiritual digestion, known as meditation. If we would "buy the truth," we must pay the price wl~ich Paul intimated ~vhen h.e wrote to Timothy: "Mcdltate upon these thlllgs, rflve thyself wholly to them." David meditate? in God s \Vord b~cause he loved it, and he loved It because hc medItated in it.-Selccted.

[l.=='='F=L=E=S=H=A=N=D=SP='=R='=T"=dl) We arc living in the day when Cod

is speaking to His children in dream~ and visions (Joel 3:28). If thcy as'e heed· cd it means a deeper cleansing to make liS ready for His appearing. God has g-iven me a ser ies of dreams, or. I In the first dream I was walki ng a.

long a narrow pathway, alone, in the mountains. when suddenly I came to a

Febrbary 16, 1924

wide open space, where I met face to face with an innumerable drove of horses '!riven by some men on horseback. I (Touched down beside a boulder to get out of the way, for some were plunging toward me, snorting and jumping excitedly, others were running around in a circle, and some were even attempting to jump over immense boulders. They ,,.ere black, brown, and gray in color and beautiful to look upon. I could not but admire them as I watched their cease less activity, running hither and thither and never seeming to get anywhere. It seemed hours that I waited for them to pass by, that I might continue my journey.

Others had come up in the meantime, :'lnd together we waited and rejoiced as We sa,,. the horses become fewer anJ fewer in number. \Vhen 1 awoke, medit"ting upon this dream, and wondering what it all meant, for 1 knew it was from the Lord, the Holy Spirit spoke these words to me, "Horses are flesh and not spirit" (lsa. 31 :3). I now had the kef 10 my dream and the interpretation was very clear

Our progress in the spiritual life is hindered through the flesh I The enemy, represented by the horsemen, would drive us to live in the activity of the flesh and 'wonkl caUC;e us to trust in the works of th e flesh (lsa. 31 :1). We struggle and e;trive to attain and yet we rUIl around as it wcro in a circle, and accomplish not hing. The natural man is very active and although his works seem very beau tiful to lIlan (The horses were beauti~ ful), yet they arc only wood, hay, and stubble, which cannot stand the fire (1 Cor. 3:12, 13). We Christians must not enter into the spirit of· the age, "Running to and £ro" and placing conhJcnce in the fl esh. Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord: for He is raised up out of H i!'> 1101 .. ha~itation (Zech. 2:13). No fle!'>h shall glory in Hi s presence (1 Cor I :29). "They that arc Christ's have crucified the flesh with its affection!.' and iuc;ts" (Cal. 5: 24). Can we not hear Him saying as H e did to the Israelites of olel, "In retnrni ng anel rcst shall re he saved, in quietness and confidence c;hall be your strength" (Isa. 30:IS)? Y<'t we have "fled upon horses" (V. 16), and harrenne~s has been the result (V. 17): but the Lord is waiting to be gracioue; unto tiS (V. 18). Sec al~o Ps. 33:17; 147:10: 7.ech.1O:5; Has. I :7: Hag. 2:22; lech. 9:10: Ps. 20:7: Jet". 17:5: 14th chapter of Hosea. 'Walk in the Spirit and ve ",hall·not fuftll the luc;ts of the fle~h ." "As many as arc led by thc Spirit of God, they arc the sons of Cod" (Gat. 5:16: Rom. 8: 14).

The study of the flesh throughout the Bible is very interesting and we find it manifeste\i in its various phases in most of the Bihle characters: fear. anger, jealousy. greed, pride, lust, etc. Self covct-s it all, so ho\" necessary, it is that the "I" be crucified. Amalek, which is a type of the Ae c;h, can only be overcome by help from the "throne of grace"; and when we see the conflict in others (Gal. 5:17) we need to hold their hands Uf! in prayer instead of criticising or comlemnine;:(Ex. 17:8-16) , and our Joshua will win

the victory. Hallelujah I Saul Jidn't obey the Lord and fully destroy the Amalekites. Even beautiful flesh must go to the cross (I Sam. 15:9). When we have a vision of Him we will realize as Job did, that in us is no good thing and we will humble ourselves before Him that we may bt' adorned with His beauty. How I longed to truly enter into the walk in the Spirit after h,n'ing this dream; and a few weeks later the l.ord gave me another dream.

heart was filled with awe as ] beheld the perfect stillness of the hore;e. Not a movement of the mu!'c1es could I disrern and yet the horse was goinR" straight forward, calmly. !'ilently, ~erenely, submissivelv, in obedience to the '·oice of an uns~en ONE above; not looking to the riq-ht or te> the left. The horse was hearkening to that unseen Ont· and was occ upied in obeying His com mande;. This One led through hard places but the hore;c did not hesitate or rebel. Tn quiet sllbmi~sion it went onward and mv heart ached in sympathy. PENTECOSTAL CONVENTION Framingham, Mass.

Th(' meetings be~n Sunday Dec. .10 ami con tinued through ~unday Jan. 20. Throughout thc entire series it was a wonderful scallion of refrcshing from the presence of the Lord. Pastor Albcrt Jenkins from Bridgeport. Conn. was with t1!; for 10 days. H is prese nce and prearh· ing was a sou rce of much ble'lsing to th e people. The Saturday night of January :; was one long to be remembered by all presrnt. Brother J enkins was the preadl. er of the evening. Before he had finished his message, the seekers . one by one,

came forward and knelt around the pl atform. The power of the Holy Spirit fell Ilke rain and the slain of the Lord were Oft all sides of the altar. One minister rOO1arked that he kad not witnessed such a manifestati on of the Power of God in

Y"'''' The ~ng sen-ices, which were conduct

On several occasions during the praise 8crvice, while the congregation were stanJing, seekers for the Baptism in the Spirit became so intoxicated with the h(:.:l.'Yenly wine tha t they were slain while s l;,nding.

Pastor J ames R. Hicks of Concord, N. H. was present one week. H is ministry in the Word, especially his illustrated chart-t alks au the feasts wa,!, very instl'l .. :tiye and great ly enjoyed by the Iht' ~ints. "Praying Hyde." The above is the title of a tittle book (to which th is is a wholly unsolic

ited reference) published at 25 ceots by The Sunday School Times Co., Philadelphia; a book which. ca refully read, should revolutionize the prayer life of allY Christian. ~ohn Hyde, the ~on of a Pre:.byterian minister, went to India as a missionary_ How he received the fulness of the Spirit and became until his death one of the greatest of intercessors, and how under God revival fires were kindled in answer to his prayers-these and othe r things are related in s imple, touching language. It is just such a testimony as the Christiall world needs today. Let multitude. read it, and manifold will be the results.

Said a great editor recently: "Every city in America .bould maintain .. noon-day prayer meeting to pray for revi.al." True, and should not also every Ch rist ian home and church become (as in 1858) recruiting centers of intercession, and every regenerated hea r t the throne-room of Ihe interceding Spirit of God? Not atone at 12 o'clock. bUI "evening and mornin g and noon" let larger numbers of God's peopl .... "cry aloud" (Psa 55.li); and let more churches have set seasons, weekly and monthly, to plead for revival, and to pray that God will put .imultaneously UpOD Hi. peopl. eyerywbere a burden of prayer.

Can arguments vanquish Modernism? Can prayerlessness recover lost g round? Can luk('warl11neo;s evangelize the world?

One migbty breath from heaveD will do it alL God will quickly "turn 10

flight thc annies of the alicns" encamping in the midst of His people, when His people have by the "wreslling" of prayer put to flight the hosts of spiritual wickedness encamping above them ; in other words, when the Church returns to the faithful observance of the apostolic order (Acts 6 :4)-prcvailing prayer first, and afterwards prevailing preaching-the former jndi.pen_bly, the latter inev itably.

1f issionary conventions? Bible conferences? \Vorkers' gatherings? Good, all good I But when the good leaves little room for the best, what then? The calling of well-nigh prayerless assemblies God "cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the .olemn meeting," Therefore Modernism grow. apace in the Church I Strategic centers continue being captured! The enemy goe. on gaining ground!

The devil loves controversy, but what effectual weapon b •• be wherewith to combat a. Churcb upon its knee.?

" H ow long, 0 Lord, how long?" Canst not Thou who art sovereign move "witb one accord" upon the hearts of Thy praying people? Canst Thou not make this the day, the year, when Thou shalt summon heaven and earth 10

witness that the God of Elijah sti ll lives-the God who condescends to answer mercif ully the cry of His confessing children who day and night in behalf of the Church
