From the manse…

For every thing there is a season…

What a long winter we had! I like

snow, but even I was itching for it to

disappear and for the spring time to come. One of the constant reminders

for me of God’s caring hand for us, is that he gives us seasons.

Sometimes, we can find ourselves in a place that we do not want to be.

Perhaps illness, or loneliness, or any other factor can make us feel unhappy

with where we are. It’s great to remind ourselves that whatever we’re

going through, however long our personal winter may be, spring will come

eventually. As we look out on the busy fields around us, as we marvel at

the beauty of the humble snowdrop, let us keep in our minds the promises

of God- ‘And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall

be no more death, neither sorrow…for the former things are passed

away.’ (Revelation 21:4)

CFK GUILDThe wintry weather saw Guild meetings in December and January being cancelled. For the February meeting, Sheena Fowler told us about “Life as a daughter of the manse".A successful Fellowship Lunch was held in Rathillet Hall after morning worship on Sunday 13 March. Soup, bread and cheese was enjoyed by all present, and a collection raised £200 for Church funds. The March meeting had Callum Murray from Crossreach talk on the "Creche in prisons". This is one of the projects that the guild is supporting. Our April meeting on the 5th is a fun night All are welcome. The ever popular Strawberry teas will be held on the first Mondays of July and August in Luthrie Hall, starting 2pm.

SOUPER SUNDAYEveryone attending church at Creich on the 9th of January was able to enjoy a cup of hot soup and bread during the service, as we once again took part in Souper Sunday. This day had been arranged to highlight the plight of those with HIV and AIDS in developing counties where often although

medication is available to stabilise their illness, a lack of adequate nutrition prevents the medicines from working effectively. A collection of £102 was taken in aid of the Church of Scotland HIV/AIDS project.

CHURCH CLEANING ROTAWe are very grateful for the team of volunteers who keep our churches cleaned inside, and maintain the surrounds outside. We need more volunteers though to add to their names to the cleaning rota for forthcoming months. If you are able to offer help, the rotas are to be found on the noticeboard at the entrances of both Creich and Kilmany Churches.

Our Sponsored Child in El SalvadorWe continue to sponsor Doris in El Salvador and although we have not heard from her for a while, we continue to support her in our prayers.Doris is a young child, vulnerable in a poverty-stricken part of the world where post is delayed or none existent, and all our letters are translated centrally which slows up the system further! However, links between Compassion and the project Doris

attends locally remain strong and we know that as a result of our donations and commitment she has access to the benefits the project offers: Bible teaching, health checks, nutritional advice, recreational activities, school equipment and ongoing concern; her attendance at the project means that her family, too, is supported and given a helping hand through any difficulties they face.It is of huge significance to Doris and her family that a church so far away takes an interest in her well being, and cares about her physical, spiritual and social health. We have committed ourselves, as a church,. to donating just £21 a month, towards this project on Doris' behalf. As Effie pointed out at the Church AGM, this amounts to just 3p per week from each of us - fantastic value, that 3p per person should mean so much to this needy child. So please do not forget to slot those odd coins into our china pig each week - just loose change to us, but to Doris, the chance of a way out of poverty and a sign that we care.Thank you!

Church of Scotland ConversationsOur regional court, the Presbytery of St Andrews, has instructed all congregations within its bounds to begin a process of conversation between our church members and our parishes, with a view to establishing a vision for our future. It is well known that the National Church is facing a very difficult time ahead, and sadly, it is always rural congregations that feel the strain first. It need not all be doom and gloom however – if you want to be involved in our discussions, come along! You’d be most welcome! Remember, the church building is only a small part of who we are – the real church is the people…

As reported in the Christmas edition of CFK news, the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland are organising an exciting afternoon event for Sunday 22 May.

ROLL AWAY THE STONE is shaping up to be a wonderful afternoon of Celebration, Inspiration and Discovery for the whole church family.

Three separate stages and the main avenue running east-west in Princes Street Gardens will host an exciting variety of music, drama, recitals, comedy, stories, puppets, interviews, participative workshops, choirs, contemporary bands, clowns, buskers – all celebrating the Christian message and exhibiting the wide range of the church’s work. Entry to the event is completely free.

What should you bring to the event?Bring yourselves, your friends and your church family of course. But also bring:

A STONE. In fact bring SEVERAL STONES. We’re going to build a cairn at the event with stones from all over Scotland and beyond. Bring one stone to represent your congregation as a whole, one for your Sunday School or Junior Church, your Youth Group, Guild, BBs, GBs, … Why not creatively label your stones and at the end you’ll be asked to take away a different stone and invited to pray for that church, congregation, youth group, etc.

PLASTIC BOTTLES. We are also going to build a church! We will need hundreds of plastic bottles on the day, so that we can build a recycled church in the park. Bring your empty plastic bottles and help the Eco-Congregation project make a big impact – we hope that the Moderator will be able to conduct a service in the ‘building’ before the end of the day!

TREASURER’S REPORTOur financial year ending 31st December 2010 showed a deficit of £2110.On the income side, Gift aid, open plate offerings and fundraising were all up on last year. All investments are like for like on last year. However increased expenses were far in excess of income.Presbystery Dues have doubled to £2.30 per member. A valuation survey done on our buildings resulted in our insurance going up from £950 to £1900.Our Smartie Tubes Appeal has been a great success raising £1770 to date. One small ask please- contributions to Doris, the little girl we sponsor through Compassion, are little bit behind where we need to be. 3p per week from the congregation would put us back on track.Gift aid is still a good way to give money to your church as we are able to claim back an additional 28p in the pound. Please ask me for details. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in the last year, Thank you. Effie Trail

A Psalm for Maundy Thursday

TonightYou sat at supper

with your friendsIt was a simple meal

That final oneOf lamb,

unleavened breadand wine.Afterward,

You went out to dieHow many other meals you shared

Beside the lake,Fried fish and toasted bread

At Simon’s banquet hall a feast,At Lazarus’ home in Bethany

The meal that Martha cooked On mountain slope

Where you fed the hungry crowdAt close of tiring day. Please sit with us tonight

At our small mealOf soup and rolls and tea.

Then go with usTo feast of bread and wine

That you provideBecause afterward

You went out to die.
