TRAFFIC TIPS Charger Families: As the number of car riders has increased, so has the traffic congestion around Cumberland Road and 131st street in all directions, as well as in the Fishers Junior High drop off line. We recommend students take advantage of riding the bus to school to avoid tardiness to school and cut down on car traffic. If you must drive your student(s) to school, here are a few helpful tips: Be patient / Be safe Be respectful of fellow Charger parents, students, and staff Arrive before 7:15 to avoid the congestion Pull all the way forward to the cone past the flag pole if you are first in line Have your student(s) exit the car immediately once the car is stopped Follow the direction of staff members assisting arrival (approx. 7:25 - 7:35) After drop-off, be alert and drive slow; pedestrians are in the parking lot Always obey traffic signs; the exit is a right turn only; use the roundabout if you need to go north We want the drop-off experience to be as safe and orderly as possible. Your assistance, by following these tips, will be greatly appreciated by all involved. Thank you, FJHS Administration

6th Annual A Better Tomorrow: Hope for Human Trafficking Youth and Arts Night to Raise Awareness about Trafficking in Indiana

Parents, Teens, Educators and Service Providers Encouraged to Attend Free Educational Event

INDIANAPOLIS – January 22, 2019– A Better Tomorrow, in partnership with Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, Ascent 121 and the Indiana Trafficking Victims Assistance program will host the 6th Annual A Better Tomorrow: Hope for Human Trafficking symposium on Friday, March 5, 6459 from 7-10:00 at Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, located at 10500 E. 126th Street, Fishers, Ind. The free event is being held in order to raise awareness regarding the existence of human trafficking in the community and educate students and their parents as to how they can help keep children in central Indiana safe.

This informational community event, (created by former Fishers High School graduate, Lauren Baney, MPH) will feature speakers from the Fishers Police Department and ITVAP along with performances by the Fishers Junior High’s Dance Team and the FJH Choral Department. Following the concert, optional workshop sessions will be presented on “Social Media 101,” “Trafficking in Indiana,” “How to Protect your Student from Exploitation” and the “Impact of Porn on Culture and the Brain.” The evening will feature a juried art show with $500 of prizes awarded to students in grades 7-12, sponsored by the Leslie Anne Hulce Foundation, and will culminate with a fair-trade fashion show modeled by student members of the FJH Girls Empowerment Movement. Representatives from the Indiana Victims Trafficking Assistance Program, The Fishers Police, Prevail, Ascent 121, The Salvation Army, Youth Mentoring Initiative, The White Stone Project and the Leslie Anne Hulce Foundation will be on hand as well.

Human trafficking is perceived to be a problem confined to faraway countries or “big cities,” but according to a recent report by former Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller, there were at least 178 known cases of human trafficking in Indiana in 2016. The Hope for Human Trafficking event will allow attendees to gain firsthand knowledge from service providers and local criminal justice agencies on how to recognize and prevent exploitation and domestic sex trafficking of minors. Attendees will also learn how to identify specific characteristics about those who may be targeted, report a suspected incident and assist in reducing the demand for commercial sex.

For more information or to learn how to enter the art show, please contact Cindy Baney at [email protected] or Lauren Baney, MPH at [email protected].
